The interior is small and modern. However, the tables and menus were extremely and unpleasantly sticky. The soy sauce bottle was also empty at our table. I ordered the HAPPY HOUR CHIRASHI BOWL ($22 which is half the size and price of the usual $44 Chirashi Bowl off their main menu). It came with two pieces of salmon, two pieces of albacore, two pieces of hamachi, and two pieces of some other tuna (or maybe it was mackerel) plus tamago (egg), and Ikura (salmon roe) on top of their signature purple rice. The presentation was nice, but the fish quality lacked. The albacore in particular was so chewy I had trouble biting through it and so I knew it wasn't fresh; I ate one piece but left the other in the bowl because I didn't want to chance it. Regardless, my stomach regretted it later in the evening and the next day... Service was fine, but we had to waive down the waiter both to order and get our check. When he asked if I wanted a box for my piece of albacore, I told him it was too chewy and he said sorry and walked away. Overall, I was unfortunately disappointed by my experience at Kuro. I do recommend those. * Make sure to have phone charge for the virtual menus The host was amazing!!! Incredible spirits for late night. The servers were pretty garbage! I say servers plural because dude and his lookalike double-teamed us and somehow both sucked. I say this as someone who's worked in the service industry for 3 years. The servers seemed actively dismayed & angry that we were at the restaurant (there were 2 bigger tables that ended up remaining before we left the place, mind you), which simply could've been easily mitigated by telling us at 8:50PM to come a different day if we wanted better service or something of the sort. After traveling far & wide for this freakin Okonamiyaki, with an offputting slight glare, the waiter told us that they didn't have it for the night. Don't recommend * The JFC Don pictured was about 90% rice according to my friend. Nothing more needed to say there. * Annd my Maguro Avocado Don... wow I was astonished at how much I disliked it. The rice was lukewarm. Nothing was mentioned about minced tuna on the menu so it looked like dog food in my bowl. I'm white... so what in the white people shit was in my bowl? Like...genuinely. I could make that 10x better at my house in half the time and I'm a fcking college student. Is seasoning no longer with us? Does anyone know what pepper or garlic are? Was astonished at how one can make a dish so terrible. I only ate it because I'm broke and can't afford other stuff. The dish looks as horrible as it tasted , and I made it look better than it was served to me I could go on. And lastly, the checks. Yknow, for guys that seemed so pissed for us being there, they were slow as hell with the checks. I'm kind af but a bitch when I'm fucked with (case in point here), so I really gave them my whole dentures, which was exponential in magnitude compared to what they gave us. I went here for the first time a while ago with my family. I would recommend making a reservation just in case so you don't have to wait when it gets busy. My server was very friendly and attentive, I think her name was connie (if I remember correctly). She answered all my questions because the menu is super huge, so it can get overwhelming. We tried the specials spicy fried chicken gristles and broiled sea bass. We also ordered pumpkin fried rice, nabeyaekii udon, and obento. The pumpkin fried rice is unique/flavorful and you can't get it anywhere else. You can tell that they spend a lot of time making it. The rice is actually served inside the pumpkin so they broil the pumpkin too. For the sushi, we tried the live scallop sashimi, it was good but way overpriced for what you get. We also got chirashi and omakase sushi along with a couple sushi rolls afterwards. Oh-toro is super good and it melts in your mouth, my favorite. The chirashi was a good deal and came with many different types of fishes on top of sushi rice. Omakase sushi may be pricey, but worth your money because you pay for the quality of the sushi (the chef basically picks the best ones out for you) and they are assorted too so you can try them all. We added a couple rolls after our meal from another server who was friendly as well and answered our questions too. Sorry, I didn't get a chance to catch his name. The negatives: -The parking, because the lot was full so we had to park across the street near the apartments. -The menu is really big and I felt bad for using the server's time to ask so many questions as a first timer here. -The food will take a little longer to make during busy hours, so you just have to be patient so I wouldn't recommend coming here on a busy day if you are super hungry. read more

If you are looking for Sushi in the general downtown area of Bellevue, there are really only two places to go - Ginza and I Love Sushi. Yes, there are others but I refuse to eat sushi off a conveyor belt and Flo doesn't make it into my book as a sushi experience. There are two negatives I can think of when it comes to Ginza. The first is that unless you have a reservation, you're going to wait for a table unless you go during off hours - which speaks to its popularity and overall greatness as a restaurant. The second is that if you do reserve one of their two rooms, you will literally be wisked out by the wait staff when the next reservation is up. I don't know if you can reserve the room for longer (never asked - but I will next time). At any rate, I've always found the food to be great, portions to be on the generous side, and overall a great experience. Don't go there if you want to have a private conversation as it's a little cramped, but do go if you are looking for a fairly consistent Sushi (and other Japanese offerings). read more

I have visited this restaurant so many times, and this is one of my favorite Japanese restaurants. My favorite is "Matsutake Dobin-mushi" It has great "Matsutake" mushroom flavor, and always good. A lot of authentic Japanese dishes. The only issue I have been having recently was however the "thickness" of sashimi or fish on sushi. It is "American" thickenss and I am sure people here are happy to eat thicker and more.. but to me, it is too thick. I appreciate they can be generou on cost, but should know Japanese customers look for quality but not quantity. Sushi and sashimi thickness should be half of the current thickness. I know it is also more diffiuclt to make for sushi masters but I hope they have skill good enough to do so. read more

I don't understand why they have so many dishes to choose from. They have a main menu, a japanese appetizer menu, and specials that are not on the menu too. I wonder how they have enough ingredients in stock and how they can memorize all those different dishes to cook. When I went here my first time, I was so confused. The sushi here are generally good. It really depends who the sushi chef is, some days the sushi/rolls just taste different. I would not recommend coming here on a busy day because the food takes really long to come out. The service here can be inconsistent. One time I was here, I saw the japanese grandma making fun and talking badly about how the customer was eating their food, and that was not very professional. read more

I think there are many restaurants offering better sushi than Ginza. But for hot food (not fast food teriyaki or udon) this place is great. I agree with other reviewers that it used to be better before the expansion but it's still quite decent. I like their lunch special. A little pricy but the food quality and quantity are worth the money. One reviewer mentioned cod swimming in cabbages. It always has been that way, even before the expansion. I order that dish often and the cod is always presented on a giant mountain of cabbages... I think Ginza does a great job when it comes to Japanese style BBQ. They have a great selection of meats, seafood, and vegetables! However, I was disappointed with my sushi over the weekend....dont get me wrong, the sushi tasted GREAT, but.... the rolls were falling apart before I could even pick them up.... That being said, I would recommend people give this place a shot, especially if your into grilling meats table side! Maybe they will figure out their vinegar to rice ratio and the sushi can prevail. At this time, I would recommend FLO Sushi over theirs, but then again, FLO doesn't offer BBQ. So, you got to pick and choose your battles. read more

We had dinner here last night. The server was a bit confused as to drink orders, but other than that very nice. The rolls and nigiri were ok, but the nigiri sushi, although big, was torn in multiple spots which came across as a little messy. Although the service was really nice, it seemed that the general tone of the staff was a bit provincial - they dealt with us, but they didn't really want to sort of thing - the sushi chefs weren't very welcoming or engaging. Now that's out of the way, Santouka is pretty straightforward - they sell different kinds of ramen and have various appetizers. They also have dipping ramen! Their ramen comes in 3 different sizes and the menu describes the differences (ie more meat, more noodles, etc). I got the karage and it came with a side of mayo and spicy mayo. The texture was crispy and the chicken was juicy. The ramen was pretty solid and the broth was very rich and flavorful. I appreciated that the food came pretty quickly after ordering. Santouka was a quick in and out for lunch. They also have special deals for students - ie discounts, free appetizers, free teas.

A small team (at most three staff but since day one husband-wife couple) bring each element of the meal together as chef Fujiwara tells you everything from the niche elements of his restaurant to what makes these dishes and fish special. Normally this is the kind of place I covet so much I'd want to keep it on the DL, but their food and passion is so good and consistent (even back to their Renton location for those who have been) that I rather fight for reservations in the future knowing what a delightful omakase gem this is. Another thing of note is all dishes (sans dessert) is fish/seafood! No random meat nigiri, no random katsu chicken course to break it up, just pure quality expressions of seafood!

Their sashimi is especially good too. Prices are cheap but can add up, especially if serving more than one person. Service is quick but can sometimes take a little while depending on which item you order in house sitting down, and the place is always lively and full of people when we visit. The K-POP/J-POP music helps the ambiance. Their menu is very, very comprehensive and you will find a variety of sushi you may like here.

The prices are based off of the plate color. The servers are nice, and the location is in a mall, so it can get busy depending on when you go but overall a great place if you're hungry for sushi. For it being in the mall, it wasn't loud so that was a plus. My favorite was the seared salmon nigiri!

Came here with family for a late birthday celebration and was glad I finally made the trip. Takai…read morehas been on my "to try" list ever since hearing that Chef Shiro co-partnered opening a restaurant on the Eastside a couple of years ago. Reservations were made ~3 weeks in advance for a reasonable dinner time slot on a weekend. We opted for the A La Carte Menu option which gave us the ability to order individual menu items while still offering omakase options. Our party of 4 ordered 2 omakase's (nigiri choice), a nigiri set, a salmon moriawase, and seasonal tempura. I personally ordered the omakase and the experience was well worth it with the sushi quality being extremely high. There were ~7 to 8 courses served throughout the omakase experience including 3 courses involving nigiri and the remaining courses involving a blend of small bites (egg, fish cake, tempura, sashimi, miso soup, dessert egg, hojicha ice cream to name a few). What especially stood out to me was the outstanding service that was displayed throughout the course of the meal. Our server was notably attentive and even went as far as switching the presentation of my nigiri courses after noticing I was left-handed so that I could eat from left to right while normally advising guests to eat from right to left. Every time one of us went to the restroom, our tablecloths were folded by our server and placed back onto the table. Tableware was immediately cleared upon finishing a course and every course in the omakase set came with a detailed description of the food you were about to eat and where in the world it was coming from. In all, the great food makes me want to be back soon, but the high level of service for the night completely made the experience that much more memorable.

Overall: If you value fish aging, quiet technical execution (he's efficient but mostly quiet), and…read morea variety of fish, this place is worth a visit. Nothing stands out though, so you may not walk away "wowed". I think if this was half the price it'd be 4 or 5 stars, but for what you pay, I don't know if it'd crack the top in the greater Seattle area. Missus says it's on the same level as I love sushi - there's nothing special about this place. The booking and setup: One of the missus' acquaintances scored an OpenTable reservation for three. Getting prime dinner spots here usually requires deliberate timing or alert tracking, so having someone else handle the booking logistics was a welcome relief. The restaurant operates on strict seatings (roughly 1 hour and 45 minutes), situated on the ground floor of the One88 building at 180 Bellevue Way NE. We parked at the pickleball / orange theory parking lot - just steps away from the front door. Parking cost was $6.62 for 2 hours. Arrival & room vibe: We were seated promptly after arriving at 725pm. The background vibe is some kind of jazz track (that has gone on the whole time). Bathrooms are individual gender neutral - two at the back. There's 7 seats at the sushi bar, probably 6 at the drinking bar, and a smattering of sit-down tables. Drinks: just still water. I ordered a Mikan ale for $12. The meal (Omakase progression): 23 courses total. Starters / Cooked courses: right to left - persimmon with shimeji mushroom, tuna belly, some kind of snail. The sashimi: akami from Spain, amberjack, yellowtail / blue snapper. Missus liked the amberjack. One more course before the Nigiri! Chawanmushi - with freshwater eel, shrimp, and shimeji mushrooms. Nigiri highlights: 18 pieces of sushi! - 1st: knifejaw bream from Chiba - chewy, - 2nd: chutoro from Mexico (medium fatty tuna): as expected. - 3rd: shima aji - jack mackerel: missus liked this piece. - 4th: shiroi - squid from Japan. Chewy. Definitely squid. - 5th: iwashi - sardine - from Chiba Japan (missus likes the saltiness). - 6th: king salmon belly with onion on top - fatty and nice. - 7th: hotate (scallop) with Yuzu zest and lemon juice - colder than I expected. - 8th: Nodoguro from Akita Japan - missus favourite Tempura break! Fish, shishito pepper, mushroom. Dip into the salt! The shishito is mega spicy - missus is unfazed, but my mouth is on fire. OK back to sashimi (he's cutting more as we eat tempura) - 9th: akamizuke, marinated in special soy sauce, from Mexico. - 10th: kinmedai - golden eye snapper from Chiba Japan - - 11th: amaebi - sweet shrimp - 3 days aged - chewy and silky? - we also got a tempura version of the head, which was crunchy. - 12th: otoro (fatty tuna) - I'm a sucker for this kind of piece. - 13th: kohada (gizzard shad) - the texture and depth of flavour was good in this one. - 14th: Kisu (Japanese Whiting) - 15th: Katsuo (Skipjack Tuna / Bonito) with scallions on top, - 16th: handroll - Hokkaido uni, ikura, shiso leaf, tuna. Dang uni is good. Miso soup break! It was decent. - 17th: anago (saltwater sea eel) - grilled - 18th: tamago - egg - dessert - with hojicha ice cream Service & pacing: decently fast. It's 8:05pm and we're already into sushi. Jun asks if the sushi is rightsized (rice wise). Overall service is good but I'm sitting in the corner so it's kinda awks for the wait staff to refill water, etc. Jun will wait until you finish your current piece before moving on. We fully finished the last course and paid by 9:10pm. The damage: normally $195/person for the omakase, before drinks (I ordered the ale), tax, and tips. They don't auto add tips. We ended up Venmo'ing the person who got the reservation $290 for us two, so that's $145/person? I guess not the worst. Final verdict: variety but less size? Nothing stood out to either myself or the missus. The upside is that we were all full, though.

My friends and I all thought the sushi tasted fresh and high quality, especially the negitoro. The ramen, unfortunately, was a completely different story.
