I've been talking to my Toledo-born-n-bred coworkers about this "Toledo Pizza" phenomenon for a while now.. (It's probably not a thing, but I'll consider a local phenom. lol) Don't know the full story, but I guess it goes back 60+ years, and it all starts with Gino's.. it mostly explains why many of Toledo-based pizza chains taste similar, including Pizza Cat, Mancino's, Amy's etc.. I've now tried all but Amy's and they're all on my Good-list. For those who don't know -- and to be fair, I'm only *just* beginning to understand -- there's the thin New York style pizza, there's the thick Chicago style pies, there's also more than a few true "Italian" style pizzas such as Napoletana or Romana pizzas, and there's the Toledo style pizza. There's very greasy. Their sauce has a bit of sweetness to it. Add also, toppings are spread all the way to the edge so there's barely any crust on them. For me, it's the last fact that gets sold. I don't necessarily like crusts on pizzas. I'm the dude that goes only for the the middle square pieces of Siciliano pizzas. Initially I wasn't too thrilled to hear about the "sweetness" factor, since I don't generally like my non-desserts to be sweet. But their sweetness is sorta like the sweetness you expect from BBQ sauce. It's not too overpowering (hindered by the greasiness.. in a very.. good.. way) and borderline unnoticeable, which I like. But what I like the most about them is that a 14" regular large size pizza will fill up my entire family with the amount of toppings they put on a pie. Initially I thought I had made a mistake of ordering too little when I saw the 14" box when I was picking it up. But when I lifted up the box, I noticed it was just as heavy, if not heavier, than say, a 16" pie from somewhere else. The heaviness of toppings reminded our family of a pizza place called Pizza Factory up in Phelan, CA we used to get our special pizza from, which must have contained something ridiculous like 20 different types of toppings.. Cashew nuts were one of our surprisingly favorite toppings. I've now discovered there's Mancino's and Gino's near (enough) by our place and it looks like I'll be torn between the two going forward. read more

Gave this place a 2nd chance. Got the same sub par pie. Ordered an xl pie with 3 toppings, over $20. Get there 5min after order pick up time, pie is tepid warm. For what is supposed to be an XL pie would be a normal large @ any other place. An embarrassment of what's called pizza. read more

The Pizza was good but the service was not! In part, they seem to be short handed but they also seem to lack training. My pizza was ordered online an prepaid for but when I got there no one was available to give me my pizza that had been sitting there. Instead, he took care of two others one had to pay for a pick up the other was placing a new order. He might have simply asked if anyone was there for a pick up or a "pre paid" pick up and simply handed me my pizza, instead it took about three minutes, no a long time until you consider that I wanted to bring the pizza home while it was still hot. Perhaps the guy taking care of me was simply following the guidelines he was give but it might be worth a review. read more

Welp I had to YELP! Haha Literally unbeatable Pizza! Can't even pick the pizza up or secure it in my hands without everything falling apart! Thought getting the XL was going to be my issue eating it by myself but my main issue was actually just trying to eat it properly! At minimum you should be able to grab the pizza and pick it up! Lmao! GINO! What are you doing? Let's cook that undercarriage so we can withhold all of these signature toppings! Makes no sense! $26 down the trash. read more

It's a nice quality but sauce to sweet not really with that to be honest. I wish they change their sauce.

We ordered pizza online at the Maumee location and had it delivered by DoorDash. Our order arrived and was short one pizza! We called and talked to the manager and he did not give us any kind of accommodation, like a credit or discount. One of our family had no pizza because he's a vegetarian and couldn't eat the others. The pizza was good but obviously they didn't check the online order for completion. Bad business. read more

If you like rude staff, poorly made orders and cold food then this is the place for you! First of all, the staff is beyond rude. I'm actually appalled the owners would tolerate such behavior! My order was cold and made incorrectly. I ordered a personal sized mushroom and pepperoni and it literally had ONE of each ingredient and was cold! Gino's is my go-to spot for pizza. I love it! If it weren't for the staff who always act like it's literally killing them to answer the phone--both men AND women employed by the establishment (unless I'm always talking to the same two people)--I'd give it a five. I encourage their manager, or even the owner of the restaurant, to call in from time to time to see what I mean. Every day cannot possibly be the worst day of their lives. This is my first visit to Gino's. The restaurant is modern and has average cleanliness. The staff that was on shift when I came we're average. We waited about 15 minutes for our food, which is reasonable. When we received our food the pizza was hot and looked good. I will say that they suck at cutting a pizza, mine basically just had lines in it. The cheese was nice and stringy​, they put a good amount of sauce without overdoing it and it has a slight sweetness to it, which I liked. read more

We were just passing through the area and overnighting on our way to Chicago, so we didn't know anything about the history of this place, type of pizza it served etc. but we took a gamble and ordered a delivery to our hotel room. After a ten hour drive and a couple glasses of vino, we just needed some carbs before we hit the pillows so we were not expecting much. Delivery was fast, friendly, and when I opened the box, I even sighed a bit at the sight. Here sat a well cooked thin crust pizza, nicely browned and piping hot. What? No pale limp pie that usually arrives at the door step? Not sacrificing cooking time for speed of delivery? Are you kidding me? Our sausage, mushroom and onion pizza had great clumps of meat (no rabbit pellets), fresh sliced fungi (no canned buttons) and some nice tiny chunks of onion. We were impressed. It had the right, sauce/crust/topping ratio and all in all it was worth the burn I suffered on the roof of my mouth for having no patience. Was this a fluke? I have no idea. I just know it hit the spot for this pizza snob. read more

Zero stars. Ordered a pizza at 10:30 for after a wedding and waited the 1.5 hours they it would take and then 15 minutes more. I approached the front desk to ask for them to call for an update and the place was closed for the night. With little hope I waited another half hour in case the deliver was the last of the night and it never showed. At least tell me to order from a papa john's or domino's if you don't expect to show up. Staying in a hotel in the Maumee area with family and looking for good pizza for 14 people, of which 6 were kids, was our challenge. We ordered four extra large pizzas: one buffalo chicken, one cheese, one pepperoni and mushrooms, and one deluxe. We knew from reviews that the toppings were under the cheese, so we were prepared for that, and it was very good. There are several crust, sauce, and cheese options. For everything but the chicken, we stuck with the original thin crust, original red sauce, and original cheese blend. The crust was good, the sauce was a little sweet, but not too sweet, and the cheese was plentiful and melted. Everyone said it was good, so it was good or we were all just really hungry, too. We'll definitely try it again when we're in the area. read more

I was at Panera's a few doors down using their wifi, so I decided to pick up a pizza for dinner. I've always wanted to try Gino's. I have a friend who is a devoted fan. I was kind of instantly disappointed because I ordered a large, which is a 12'' and 12 inchers are usually mediums at other pizza places...it was just a shock to see such a small pizza for $15. But it was a Special! I guess you gotta pay extra for special things. Anyways, the pizza was very tasty. I agree with Blake about the sauce...weird, different, but good. Like BBQ and pizza sauce, it was sweeter than normal sauces. Also, most of the toppings were under the cheese and they are chunks of toppings, they are a lot of little slices. And it's covered from crust to tip! So it isn't the prettiest pizza, but it was good! I would probably get it again. read more

When I first walked into this establishment, I was very excited to see the large menu. There are endless amounts of choices! The Greek salad, and cheese breadsticks came first and were top notch. I was here for my niece's birthday party, the pizza was good but I ordered a Tomato and Feta bread, also a T.B.L.T. The guy working said the TBLT had turkey, bacon, lettuce, and tomato. So I ordered that, snd sat down with the party. After 30 minutes of waiting, they came out with the bread that had no tomato on it. The woman told me they were arguing on how to make the sub because none of them have ever made it. They put turkey bacon on it, after the guy told us differently. Great pizza, slow service, friendly staff. Portions of the menu board cheaply taped over with white paper instead of taken down or re-made. Seems like the gelato machine or holder has been out of order for years. Disappointing to see a rapid decline in this Toledo area staple. Hopefully they can get their feet back under them and breathe life back into the quality product. read more

I grew up with Gino's Pizza near the Toledo Hospital, I now live in Maumee and became excited when a Gino's opened up down the street. Very disappointed. I have ordered take out from them only three times, all with in six weeks. Each time it was something. 1st time: I got home, went to pick up a slice and everything slid off. I couldn't even get the bread off the box. The pizza was not cooked all the way. There was way too much cheese and sauce on it. Poorly cut as well. I returned it, they agreed they remade it. 2nd time: I ordered wings, salad and an extra large pizza. Neither the salad nor wings came with ranch dressing. The Ezra large pizza was cut into 18 thin slices. 3rd time: I ordered an extra large pizza. I picked up my order, the counter boy was incredibly rude verbally and physically. He asked for my ID then tossed it down on the counter at me rather than placing it in my open hand (he did the same with a pen). I get it out to my car, looked to make sure my order was correct, lifted up each slice. Again, my pizza was not cooked all the way. The bottom was pure dough. I took it back in, showed the cook, she agreed. Instead of making a new pizza she threw it back into the oven. Now all the cheese was burnt. I mentioned this was the third time I had ordered and the third time it's been screwed up. She gave me attitude stating "well, I didn't recut your pizza after I took it out of the oven a second time, so the normal amount of cuts are there". Not once in these three consecutive issues did a worker offer me a drink, refund, coupon, or any type of "peace offering". I'm not a person who asks for a free meal or will complain if my food is over cooked. I dont like confrontation. I have worked in a pizza joint, for seven years. I know how to make a pizza from scratch. More toppings = less cheese and sauce. It's not that hard. I'm very hesitant on ever ordering there again. read more

Gino's makes an interesting pizza. I can't think of any other pizza to compare it to either. I believe their pizza sauce is a mix of regular pizza sauce and BBQ sauce, which makes it sweet and, to be honest, just a little weird. It is still really good, but the sauce isn't my favorite. I really do enjoy the crust though. It is mostly doughy, but crunchy on the edges where the cheese has crisped up perfectly. The best thing about the crust is that there is essentially no edge crust, so there aren't any "pizza bones" left to pile up on your plate. The subs are also really good, and the cheese sticks are awesome. When I come to this location, it is always for the lunch buffet. The buffet is really hit and miss. One day it will be awesome with tons of great stuff and it is replenished often. The next time there is little selection and much waiting for something good to come out. Some days they have ribs which aren't too great, and then others they have chicken chunks which aren't bad -- especially the buffalo ones which are better than the BBQ. The salad bar is always pretty weak though. Having said all that, I'm still a big fan of this place because most of the food is really good and if you hit the buffet on the right day, it is fantastic. read more

We needed some quick lunch. We were delighted with the cheese pizza that we ate. Crust was thin and some crunch. The sauce was just right and cheese had a perfect taste and texture. Love the pizza but this place is slow and unorganized. They advertise "Grab N Go" pizzas for $9 but they apparently do not plan for busy nights. As I am sitting here waiting for my food a woman just walked out upset. Like I said, great pizza but bad location. Seems to be this way every time I stop here. The original pepperoni pizza is the only good food item they have. The other locations may be better, but this Maumee location is always extremely slow and it always seems like the place isnt actually open when youre inside. It will literally take no less than 45 minutes for your order to be completed and its very disorganized inside it seems. Id recommend the pepperoni pizza but would not recommend dining inside. read more

Pizza is good but service is absolutely terrible. 1 hour 40 minutes later no pizza. Call location and their answer is to make a new pizza and wait another 30-40 minutes, to bad that is is already 9:30 and it's for a 7 & 10 year old. Also, tried to order pizza two weeks ago on a Saturday and no one answered their phone over a 30 minute period. Guess we'll drive to Perrysburg for now on, Maumee is a joke! read more

Took a new couple to get the "Gino's experience" Ordered our pizza and 3 drinks and a water, the pop had no carbonation in it, just syrup and water. We complained they said "ya they have been having trouble with that". The young manager said they could give us lemonade or water instead. We asked if we could just get a bottle of Coke out of the cooler. She said no they have to count those, we already paid for pop once but if we wanted bottled pop we will have to pay again. Amazingly we watched the employees help them selves to the bottled pop, they were smart enough to put napkins over the labels. Being from Bowling Green and the pizza capital of the world, we will just stay in town from now on. Sorry to see such an icon go down the pooper. It is diffidently NOT the original Gino's the original Gino's would take care of it's customers in stead of the cash drawer. read more
