Stopped in for lunch. Very cute venue. Clean and bright. I had one of the daily lunch specials, Peanut curry. It was served with either rice or fine noodle. There also was a side salad of fresh cucumber carrots and lettuce with a sweet vinegar dressing. The entre had white meat chicken, broccoli,green pepper and peanuts in a wonderful red curry sauce. The salad was very nice. Velvet had the Coconut soup with chicken and lemongrass and mushrooms. We both agreed five stars. Thai is my favorite ethnic food. I seek it out wherever I travel. Newfoundland did not disappoint. Service and price was excellent. read more

Went there for 1st time , the staff is very friendly and hv nice ambiance even the place not really big. We ordered Crab Rangoon which is the fave n the best, beef ginger also tasty but the Pad thai is dissapointment not good as i expected very overcook as u seen in the picture, should be better for that. read more

Yay! A Thai place downtown. I've had the Pinapple and Peanut curries this far and have throughly enjoyed both. The staff we're friendly. Great for take out and will likely dine in sometime. Only wish is the crab Rangoon get actual crab someday as opposed to the Alaskan pollock but at least they clearly state that on the menu. Will order again. read more

Staff are fantastic. Friendly and attentive. We were not rushed and they were very accommodating and helpful when we brought our own occasion cake. A large group of us (8 people) went out and had a fantastic experience. The waitress was knowledgeable and helped us navigate the menu and addressed our personal and varying tastes with some excellent suggestions. The prices are extremely reasonable at $16-18 for an entree. The Crab Rangoon was delicious and was a huge hit ($8.95 for two). They use pollack instead of crab (which likely keeps the price in check), but that didn't affect the taste. We also had the shrimp appetizer and they were delicious as well. I had a vermicelli dish with chicken and cilantro, fantastic! My husband had the spicy ginger beef and said it was very good. Some of the dishes have rice or vermicelli as a separate side and there's an extra charge (about $4). A few reviews commented on the portion size. We didn't have any issue with the portion size. When the dish comes out, it may look like a smaller portion than what you get in a lot of other restaurants, but it was more in keeping with a healthy portion size. You won't see an overstuffed plate of starchy fillers, instead colourful plates with vegetable. We were all full when we left and no need for snacking later in the evening. (I liked the addition of raw cucumber to some of the dishes- unexpected but a pleasant contrast in the dish.) I would describe the decor as bright, clean, fresh and minimalist. It is very casual and unpretentious restaurant to connect over a meal. I will definitely re and recommend. read more

Was so excited to get takeout from gingergrass for the first time for my Saturday night in, but was disappointed when the portion sizes were small ... like really small ... the pad thai barely covered the bottom of the takeout container. The Vietnamese pork spring rolls were good, but had to dig to find the only tiny pieces of pork inside. Staff were really friendly. Flavours are good, but not the best pad Thai I've ever had. Will try again to see if this was just a one-off, but probably wouldn't recommend. read more

The interior is very nice. My husband said the washroom was clean and wheelchair accessible. The dishes are kind of small. My coconut soup with vermicelli instead of rice and cucumber salad and one crab Rangoon didn't fill me up for lunch. Had to order an extra order of 2 crab Rangoon which was delicious with the fish sauce. My husband didn't like his peanut curry with rice. I tasted the curry and feel blank and watery. Wanted to try mango sticky rice but they are out of ingredients. The servers are very nice and speedy. We are in St John's for three more days but we'll rather try other places. read more

Growing pains. The food is very good; portions are smallish. That said no issues with what is on the plate. The Crab Rangoon is truly excellent. I had the Spicy Beef for my main and it was quite good. I asked for additional heat; it did not disappoint. On the downside, no liquor license. I hope this gets rectified soon because the service is very slow. In all fairness the wait staff give you fair warning, but if you are with a group there will be long lag times between the first plate being served and the last. The atmosphere is very nice. The joint is very, very clean. All in, I won't go out of my way to go back. It was good to try, but that would be about it. read more

Impossible to get anyone to take a reservation. If you call during the afternoon, you get a recording telling you not to leave a message because they do not check their messages (right before the recording says "please leave a message after the tone", so that's irritating. If you call during open hours, you get music played to you endlessly without any explanation. Am I on hold? Will I be listening to the bad music for days? Do these people even want my custom? It's bizarre that during a pandemic when restaurants are supposedly struggling, that this business does not appear to care about their customers. I'd like to try the place, but I have already wasted too much precious time trying to communicate with them. read more

Great food - I had a yellow curry dish and my husband had a chicken vermicelli dish - both were very good. The service could use some improvement as I had an empty water glass for some time and despite waving at the waitress a few times as she entered the dining area, she never looked up long enough to notice. The food is delicious! I love Thai food and frequently visit thai restaurants when I travel and when I lived in Ontario. The curry I tried at Gingergrass was one of the best I've ever had. I like things very spicy so more Chile would have been appreciated but they gave me some extra on the side to help. Lunch portions are nice, not big, but enough to leave you satisfied. Really looked forward to eating here - finally a real Thai restaurant in St John's - but the food was somewhat 'meh'. Service was really good and friendly. Flavors were okay. Portions are smallish. The Pad Thai was somewhat dry, and cooled slightly so the noodles were tending towards 'leftovers' consistency. And who puts raw cucumber in a Pad Thai??? It's a step up from Thai Express but doesn't achieve authentic Thai restaurant status... imho read more
