Ordered a Mongolian chicken bowl for delivery. It came with no chicken in it. I tried to call and ask for my money back or a credit for the next time I order and the person on the phone was not understanding. He told me he was the delivery guy and knew he had just delivered it. But it was clearly not in there. I asked to talk to someone else and he told me no, to talk to him that he was the manager. Probably my favorite Chinese place...ever. A great price for the amount of food you get, around $7. They have such a good selection of toppings to put in your bowl, I recommend salsa, cheese and cilantro. I haven't tried their sushi but I heard it is amazing also. The food is good but this new place to Athens has one major flaw which is the atmosphere of the inside of the restaurant. Immediately after I walked in I wanted to leave because they were playing dub-step at maximum volume I had to basically shout to give my order at the register because the music was so loud. I even ordered my food to go because I could not stand the volume and the type of music they were playing. Frankly I don't want skrillex blaring in my ear while I eat. I hope they change their music to something like indi rock and also lower the volume of the music. As for the food it was pretty good. You get to create your own item which is good the sushi I had was OK but I will give it another try just because the person that worked there said the head sushi chef had left. I went there today and will never go back. The servers behind the counter could have been least interested to be working. They were talking in a group at the register with one girl getting food for a line of customers. The "grilled chicken" was cold and bland. The fried chicken hibachi was sitting under a heat lamp in the back. We asked if the grilled chicken was freshly cooked there and if the vegetable were chopped and prepared in house and she said, No, we get them in a package. An Ohio University student or employee has a lot of restaurants to choose from on campus, but I'm so glad that there is a sushi restaurant within walking distance. Ginger Asian Kitchen is a restaurant that serves authentic Asian dishes. These include traditional Japanese rolls, sushi and sashimi, specialty rolls, and Asian bowls consisting of rice, vegetables, and other toppings. I've been to six different Sushi Restaurants in my life, so I had high expectations going to Ginger for the first time. To my surprise, I was impressed. The food and the restaurant were amazing and I want to eat there as often as I can. I ordered two traditional Japanese rolls, the Philadelphia Roll and the Shrimp Tempura. The prices were reasonable, with $7.50 dollars for two rolls and three rolls for $9.75. I've been running low on cash, considering I'm a college student, so I was happy that treating myself to sushi wouldn't put such a dent in my wallet. The menu on the screens where you order didn't have descriptions of what each sushi roll was, but later after going there I realized the descriptions must have been in the paper menus because I found the descriptions on their website. Both rolls were very delicious. The shrimp, cooked and breaded, was in the middle of the roll, surrounded by avocado and cucumber. It was wrapped in seaweed with the rice on the outside and stayed together when I picked it up with chopsticks. Everything went so well with each other and even though I was stuffed by the end of the two rolls, I wanted to keep eating more. The Philadelphia roll was also amazing because I love cream cheese in my sushi. The Philadelphia roll is made of rice, raw smoked salmon, avocado and cream cheese. It was very delicious, but if you are not a fan of raw fish they do have other options of cooked seafood like the California roll and Shrimp Tempura roll. I'd say my only complaint was that the menu did not say what the sushi had in it. The descriptions of the sushi rolls were online, but I didn't see any descriptions on the menu at the register. Fortunately I brought a friend who memorized the menu. I'm glad I brought him with me because those two rolls were great choices for my first meal at Ginger Asian Kitchen. The restaurant itself seems to serve authentic Asian dishes, but the design of the restaurant itself doesn't surround the customers in the culture so much as other restaurants I've been to. The restaurant is a typical city restaurant, with modern interior decorating, metal stools and tables, and the top pop songs playing over the radio. Although, chop sticks, paper lanterns, beautiful plants, and a giant mural were present, so there was at least some feeling of the culture. I believe the restaurant tries to give off the impression that it's friendly and welcoming to students on campus. The restaurant seems like a place where I would want to hang out with friends, and there are plenty of tables with a lot of Ohio University students there usually. It's a welcoming atmosphere for students and staff of Ohio University, so they've done well in choosing their location. When I went to receive what I had ordered, the man held out my sushi with a smile and I appreciated the friendly customer service. I love Ginger because of the big welcoming restaurant, the variety in dishes and sushi rolls, and the delicious taste of the food itself. I'd recommend the restaurant to anyone in Athens or Ohio University who loves seafood and Asian meals in general. It's reasonably priced and the food was amazing. read more

New promotion is MISLEADING! I got my order taken as soon as I stepped to the counter. However, I waited several minutes for the cashier to ring me up. He ignored me, walked near me and away from me on several occasions. Eventually, he decided to ring me up. Recently, Ginger added a promotion, "Buy 9 bowl, get 1 free!!! (minimum order $6.75)" I ordered a mini-bowl and sushi, making my total double the minimum order price. When I presented the card to the cashier, he just said "$6.75"... I'm thinking, "What the hell? I just paid $13. There's definitely a misunderstanding here." I pointed out that I ordered a bowl and paid more than the minimum amount, the cashier still wouldn't stamp my card. Tired of trying to reason with the guy, I left with my food dazed and confused. Looking more closely on the promotion card, it DOES NOT SPECIFY what kind of bowl you need to purchase. The sushi is the best in the area! Always fresh and for a very agreeable price. The bowls are okay, the rice and veggies are fresh and flavorful but the meat leave something to be desired. The steak dose not taste like anything and the chicken was this off grey color and tasted horrible. I do enjoy the atmosphere of the restaurant, the inside is clean and well decorated. Their Sushi is just plain horrible, bland and seems like it was pre-made and packaged I wouldn't advise anyone to eat it. If you want real Sushi try China Panda. The atmosphere is weird, I felt like there was a lot of wasted space upon walking into the restaurant which was unnecessary. The hibachi was ok but every ingredient looked like it had been sitting for a good portion of the day and was not freshly made besides the grilled chicken, which I had to specifically ask for. Servers were in unhelpful moods and didn't seem like they cared about what was going on within the restaurant, or dealing with customers. I usually get the sushi delivered but I got cheap one day and decided to pick it up to avoid delivery fees. They usually take so long to make anything I decided to go to cvs and kill time. After about 5 min I head to pick up my food. You can usually just go straight to the cashier and pick up your food but when I walked in there's a family of 6 frantically ordering food. All of them but the grandmother is having a really hard time deciding what to pick. I didn't want to get in their way so instead of going straight to the cashier I stand back. I wasn't worried since I could already see my order on the side and I had already paid for it online. She goes through the whole line and spots my sushi order and decided to go crazy saying "I want that!" The cashier grabs my order and is ready to add it to the family tab when I'm like oh no I've been here for 10 minutes waiting for her to pick something I am not waiting for you to make me another order. Not gonna lie the cashier looked pissed at me and gave me my order. I know I seemed rude a little to not let the lady have my sushi order but just the idea that they would just give my already paid order away pissed me off. read more

First of all, the restaurant provides an appealing Asian theme with a blend of American culture. They provide food such as chicken, steak, or tofu bowls, sushi, soups, and a few selections of appetizers. They offer a new approach to blend American and Asian foods. Grab some friends and dine in or order to-go. The service is quick and you're food will be ready in no time. I ordered the California roll which includes six sushi with a small chunk of crab meat, avocado, diced cucumbers, which is wrapped in kani (seaweed), and white sticky rice. The sushi overall did not look very appealing; they were not perfectly circular and appeared squished. The color, however, was charming. At first it was a little sweet but then came the "fishy" taste. I could barely taste the avocado but I certainly felt the smooth texture. The rice held it really well, the finely cut cucumber was crunchy, the seaweed tasted like how it smelled but it provided a nice crunch, and the crab meat was tender. To be frank, I gagged after I ate the first one and didn't pick up another sushi. For those who have never tried sushi nor seafood, I recommend trying sushi elsewhere. My family went for dinner on May 15th. I was a little nervous given the other reviews on here. The staff was very nice and helpful. They have apparently turned the music down, because we met some friends there and I had no trouble hearing the conversation. Not really my kind of music - but no longer so loud that it gets in the way. The food was WONDERFUL and we'll definitely go back. My only complaint would be the cost of the yogurt, which seemed a little high to me. If you fill one of their serving cups - which are VERY big - expect to pay about $7. The yogurt was excellent, though, and all of the fruit and crunchy toppings were in abundance. Excellent chinese food for a very fair price! You can get a bowl of lo' mein, Mongolian Chicken, and a ton of other veggies for only $6.75! It's essentially the Chinese version of Chipotle, but they actually give you a fair amount of meat opposed to what Chipotle does. I mean seriously, they throw a ton on top while the Chipotle people actually drop meat off the spoon before putting it on your burrito... again, very fair amounts at Ginger! It's a great way to get your fix of Asian food in, but I took off one star because I'm from a big city and go to places like this all the time that have much better ingredients, but still at similar prices. I absolutely love Ginger Hibachi Grill & Sushi! I am always greeted with a smile and wonderful customer service! I've had the sushi twice and I think it is better than a lot of options in the area! They also have great sushi options that are worth stepping out of the box for! The Hibachi is definitely different than what you would be used to at a sit down hibachi grill but it is quick and convenient and I absolutely love the spicy chicken option. Don't forget the Yum Yum sauce! If you have room for frozen yogurt - I highly suggest the sea salted pretzel flavor - it is honestly too good to resist! Ok... where to start. I went to eat there for lunch with my mother a few days ago I tried the pick two and had the "Spicy Tuna" and the "Philadelphia". We decided to eat there and I have to agree with others that the music is just to freaking loud.. having to yell to speak to someone across the table is a bit ridiculous, and I'm not old.. I'm 21 I like music, but not that loud. Anyways, the order came fairly quick which was nice, but the lady serving it to us had no idea what was what and just sat the food down and left so we had to pick out which one we thought was ours. The so called spicy tuna was NOT at all spicy.. and it really wasn't good at all! As for the Philadelphia.. it was less than good as well :/ the salmon is supposed to be smoked.. and if it was smoked at all I couldn't tell, I'm pretty sure it was just raw salmon and I was sorely disappointed! You can buy better Philadelphia sushi at Krogers in Athens and its cheaper!! I too was very excited for this place to come to Athens but it needs to be stepped up a notch if it wants to stick around. But because I was as well hoping I caught them on an off day I went back to try something else! This time I ordered the "Athens Roll" and to my surprise it was absolutely delicious!
