Red Curry- lunch portion
Lauren J.

Always excellent service. Food is always hot, delicious and comes out quick. We love coming to eat here whenever we are in town. One of our favorites. Everything we have tried has tasted amazing!

Cute bar area

Excellent food, excellent service, excellent value!!! Their lunch special is seriously cheaper than fast food but 1000x better! Atmosphere is also great!! Clean, cute and trendy. We love it here!!

This place was just okay. I enjoyed my Tonkotsu ramen... especially the broth:) However, my Pad See Ew was kind of on the bland side (I also didn't care for the chewy pieces of meat)... which kind of sucks, especially considering the price. We also waited a really long time for our food:/ *sigh*

Kho soi. Kinda like a panang curry taste with egg noodles. Pretty tasty! $12

Tried this place despite their low ratings and glad I did. Inside is clean and staff are friendly. Prices are reasonable. Tried the takoyaki, gyoza and kho soi. Takoykai: the "breading" was perfectly cooked, nice and soft with a nice crisp outside. Flavors were all there. The octopus was disappointing, kinda tough. $7.50 for six. Not bad Gyoza: 6 fried gyoza for $5. Decent flavor but not really fried. Closer to steamed dumplings. Very soft... Kho soi: never had this anywhere else so this was new. It tastes like panang curry with egg noodles. They add fried shallots and crispy wonton strips. Pretty delicious! Ordered it with pork but the pork kinda stuck to each other in giant clumps. Probably previously frozen. $12. Oh also tried the thai iced tea. $3.50. Biggest thai iced tea I've ever seen! Like 20oz and made just right. Time to go jog over this energy! Not 5 stars because of the issues above. Not 3 stars because they have a vast menu selection, food was decent and out of the choices in Pocatello, it's a gem to find!

Don't remember the name of the entrée, ask any of the wait staff for their top picks.

Ignore Heather's obstinate review. Since the two years of the posting of that review, the kitchen staff and front of house staff has considerably improved the dining experience. My beer was cold, the food was hot, and the chemistry of the dish was delightful.

DO NOT PARK ON THE WEST SIDE OF THE BUILDING AFTER DARK-YOU WONT BE ABLE TO GET OUT! The owners must assure that their customers know that it is a tow zone lot after 9pm, yes there were signs but there're all posted at the other end of the lot, not the entrance (of course....) OK here's the thing I feel bad giving this review but I gotta be honest. This is their grand opening and they are way understaffed to handle the crazy influx of lovers of Asian cuisine. They admitted to not having pork because the shipment hasn't come in yet. IMHO don't open business until you're ready to open. I was sad to see people leave because they weren't greeted after standing for 15 minutes. Service: Poor service see above and from walking in to getting our food took an hour and a half. We've been waiting for our check for 20 minutes (legend has it we're still waiting). Again, probably don't open up if you can't service your customers but maybe they had to for some reason or another, idk. I will say that the server was very kind despite being one of two servers to take orders from a full house (I'm pretty sure she's the owner too). She was very stressed but did the best she could! I'm sure she'll hire after tonight. Atmosphere: The restaurant space is actually quite nice and well lit! No music, so you can hear everyone's conversation (if you wanted to) Food: The menu selection is larger than I thought. I came to try the ramen and when I saw the pho tai I decided to split that one with family to see how it was. The ramen broth was delicious, no doubt. Very enjoyable and the portion seemed small but was filling enough for me. The ramen noodles were sticky and heavy and didn't slurp into your mouth like ramen should. So that's my only dis on the ramen. The pho (for those of you who hope for a good pho place in Pocatello) is probably the best pho in town, but not the best you'll have. The more I ate it the less it tasted like pho. It was very garlicky too, but came with a lot of meat! I would say that if you like pho it's worth it because at least there's flavor (I've had watery pho, ew) All things considered, the food was good enough for me to want to come again (I'll update this review at that time), but not until they've had some time to work out the kinks in service. I totally admit that this review is based upon my 1st impressions on their very first day open, but hey, 1st impressions are important. (Can I get my check please?)

Chow mein with beef & lots of tasty veggies

Gin Sen has a tempting menu that makes it difficult to pick just one entree! With gourmet ramen, soups, curry, rice, and pan fried noodles, there is something for everyone. The restaurant offers a hip and fresh ambiance uncommon to Pocatello. We had chow mein with beef and tonkotsu ramen. The portions were generous and the flavors were fantastic. The veggies in the chow mein were cooked to perfection. The tonkotsu had a rich flavor worth going back for. Our dinners were served promptly, making Gin Sen a great place to dine on a time crunch. Unfortunately, Gin Sen did fall short in a few areas. The parking is difficult. However, the restaurant did a great job of informing patrons of the consequences of parking in certain lots in the area. While service was quick, it was also awkward. Our waitress requested our order immediately after my husband returned from the restroom without giving him time to peruse the menu. And the ramen was served with large slices of pork loin. We were at a loss of how to cut it without a knife while if floated in broth (though we did have a few laughs over it!) Overall, Gin Sen was fantastic and we will be back. There are just a few corks that prevent the restaurant from reaching its full potential.

Pad Thai white rice

Waited for 15 minutes for our appetizer. Only had two other tables here at the beginning. Then another 30 minutes before our waitress came over and said "I'm so sorry guys I don't understand what's taking so long." The cooks all walked away from the line and she had to remind them to cook our food. The food was okay but Thai Zap is so much better. Definitely wasn't worth $50 for three plates, especially after waiting an hour for our food.

Pad Thai, Khao Soi, and Takoyaki!

I'm rating 5 stars because this is the 1st restaurant in Pocatello to have something new! This town is in need of new!

The yellow curry was delicious but the pad Thai was pretty awful. I actually couldn't eat it because it had a terrible flavor.

The wife and I stopped in for lunch at Hokkaido because what's better than soup on a cold day, right? Having this be our first visit to Hokkaido, my wife ordered the spicy ramen, and I ordered the Tantanmen ramen, level 2. Oh, and unless you've got the appetite of a Bigfoot, you might want to skip the appetizers. Not that they're not good. You just won't need them. The real deal is coming. It might take a bit to get there, but man oh man was it authentic. This isn't your 6 for a dollar kind of ramen. There's lots of meat and veggies AND as much spice as you need to warm up the insides. If you've never had Japanese ramen, put away your fears and give Hokkaido a try. You won't regret anything other than it being your first time.

I have resulted in going to Hokkaido by the river. Every single time I've gone there. It has been terrible. The customer service is absolutely appalling. We were seated and waited I kid you not over 20 minutes just for our drink order. The place wasn't even busy. The host that sat us, walked around noticeably eating food and being on their phone when they could've taken orders etc. I go to the bathroom and there is not toilet paper nor hand soap and an astonishing amount of chemicals and cleaning supplies under the sink. There is also a door in the women's bathroom that has a trash can blocking the entrance which makes me uncomfortable. The food is no where near as good as the building on sunnyside and was missing different garnishes of my soup. Some of the staff were not friendly and did not seem interested or cared on how we were doing. Although I will say Wyatt helped us and was so kind and apologetic on the wait. He seemed to be the only one taking care of multiple tables. When the short haired individual was walking around aimlessly. Long story short. It used to be good but I've been to this location multiple times and it's the same result. Staff are careless and food is not the same.

There are many local drivers, that either drop their trailers, or family come & take them home to visit. The showers are $5.00, yes, but that is per person. Should you wish your significant other to shower with you. You get one towel, which did not smell fresh, no wash cloth, no bath mat for the floor. And they don't volunteer the extra towel, you have to ask for it, although you paid for another person. I had to go to the truck for the additional towel for my hair. No paper towels & it is small, although the shower is fairly large, but they need new shower heads. It is set up for handicapped. The shower was acceptable, but not overly clean. Bathrooms needed some attention. No toilet in the shower itself. The girls who were in last night, were on edge, as if a thief had entered the store. It was strange. This morning; different female, but similar attitude. Cameras are in the store, but the atmosphere is almost like they are expecting trouble. I asked this morning, if it were a bad area, but she stated, "that it was not, otherwise she would not work there". The store itself appears clean & it was being wiped down this morning. Also, the restrooms were in a better condition this morning. The parking lot is small.
