USAA assigned Gil's towing to me on a Saturday around 1:30pm. The automated tracker estimated a 90-min wait. I called Gil's to establish personal contact, and they were most helpful (and pleasant). They acknowledged the tow request, and said they would call when the driver was 10 minutes out. That call came around 2:00pm, and minutes later, Ben pulled up and had my car on his tow truck in about 5 minutes! Ben was very friendly, professional, and confident. Unfortunately I have had to use Gil's towing on multiple occasions and each time it is the same pattern of making you wait longer than you expect. I have asked my insurance company to remove Gil's from the list of service providers because of this. It goes like this: the insurance sends the request for service, a vehicle tow or in this case, locked out of the vehicle- and Gil's will automatically send a response that they took the call and will be there in 30 minutes. I'll call them directly and a man will answer and say that it will actually be 60 minutes to wait. But the 60 minutes come and go, and then they will keep updating their ETA in 30 minute increments. Then I will call again and the man will say sorry but it will be longer than expected. I don't think it's fair to the customer that they take the calls right away because they want the business but don't mind making you wait for hours. The last time I needed a tow, they quoted me and my insurance company 60-90 min. Wait which is average although I was on the side of a very busy highway- I understood that it could be a while. But then when the 90 minutes came and went, and I called them back and was told that it could take up to 6 hours. I canceled the call right after the man became rude after I asked why 6 hours if I waited 90 minutes and was on the side of a really busy highway. read more

My roadside car policy takes care of the call for help & billing . Today, Sunday October 20. I called my insurance provider and asked for a jumpstart for my car battery. I am single woman and I was stranded. My phone needed charging . I waited patiently. I waited for four hours . Gills Towing of Santa Maria never showed up. Once I charged my phone, I called them and reminded them they sent me a text as of 3:30 pm stating that they would be there in 30 minutes. They never showed up. They never helped me. He told me" he thought I didn't need help anymore ". I plan to pursue this with my insurance company requesting Gills towing never to assist me and recommend that they no longer do business with Gills towing of Santa Maria. if I find that my insurance company continues to do business with Towing I will switch insurance companies. I called the day before to set up tow, was informed by a lady that they dont take appointments but to call in the morning and was quoted $80. I called in the morning as told and was given the price of 140. I was basically told by driver i was never quoted $80???? I wont be using them again. read more

Fail. I called and asked for a quote on a small towing job. Dispatcher forwarded my number to a tow truck driver. He asked for my address and never showed up. A few days go by and I called again. Was told they were too busy and my job was too unusual for them. Putting a wheel on a hub with 4 bolts and towing a trailer 10 feet away is too unusual for them. The person on the phone said someone had been trying to call me to let me know a tow truck was out and I explained that I'd picked up the phone and no one answered. She proceeded to let me know that it was my problem and the service was subsequently cancelled. Uncomfortable, unsafe, and unprofessional. Insurance company assigned Gil's Towing to me to fix a flat tire in my driveway. The service person, Ben, made uncomfortable comments, such as "changing a tire is hard, especially for women" then winked and laughed, asked how much I bought my vehicle for, asked if I lived at the house where my vehicle was parked, asked how much I paid for my house and if I would sell it for $XXX,XXX dollars, etc. After the spare tire was installed, the pressure was low so I asked him to fill air in the tires. He said he didn't have a pressure gauge and his air compressor was broken, then he abruptly left. If that was true, then it is highly ill-prepared for a towing truck to not have a pressure gauge nor functioning air compressor. read more

The driver was at my parents house for a very short time to jump start and tow their car. During this short time, he claimed he needed to use the restroom, and my father agreed to in order to an avoid an awkward exchange. There are plenty of public bathrooms. I've never had to have my car towed before, do I guess I have nothing to compare it too, but my car broke down on the side of road the other day out of no where, no warning.... so after crying for 30 minutes. I finally called a tow truck. For a few minutes I was crying more thinking of how much it would cost, how long I was going to have to wait in the rain. Lo and behold, this place showed up so fast!!! And the worker was so nice. And I couldn't believe how inexpensive it was. Something I thought was going to be so terrible, was actually very easy and hassle free. Tow operator from Gil's Towing took a suspiciously long time to tow my car just 3 blocks. At the time, i didn't think much of it, but it was the only time that my keyring (with all the keys that I use) were out of my sight. Fast forward two weeks later and there were signs of someone(s) had entered my apartment unit. In hind sight, trusting the operator with my keys was my mistake. Poor service. Unfortunately my auto insurance contracts with Gil's so I did not have an option. Made the call for a tow at 9:30am through my insurance. Received a text 30 minutes later from Gil's, no ETA. Tried calling Gil's by phone, phone rang and rang, no answer, no voicemail option. On the 4th try, got though. Was assured someone would be there in 45 minutes. After an hour and a half, the driver told my insurance he was at my location, which he wasn't. Finally, 10 minutes later, he showed up, more than 2 hours after service call. He apologized for the delay, and expressed surprise that his boss did not dispatch another available driver. He stated there were other drivers, but he did not start work until 11am. I can understand delays - as long as they are justified. But the dishonest reporting to my insurance and the extended delay shows neglect and unethical business practices. There are other tow companies in the area. One stopped by my location asking if I needed assistance and offered me some bottled water. I wish my insurance contracted with them instead. read more

Gil's Towing was called by the dealership to pick my car and me up in Santa Ynez, and drive us to Santa Maria. The driver Tito called me to say when he would arrive, and he was right on time. I recently rented an RV for vacation, and on the second day it broke down on the side of the highway, 150 miles from my home and literally in the middle of nowhere.
