Gilpin County is itself a small county, with only about 6000 people, but the library packs a very big punch for its size. The library is pleasant and modern, well staffed by actual librarians who love books and their patrons. They have a robust inter-library loan system, great stuff including educational resources on the computer system, a generous checkout policy, and a nice community room. Free internet, coffee, and cozy chairs make it an easy place to hang out for a few hours to get some work done. The librarians have also worked hard to expand cultural-resource access for library patrons, with a Gilpin County Library card and easily-printed-from-the-web tickets gaining up to four people free admission to the Denver Zoo, Dinosaur Ridge, and other interesting and fun destinations. read more
