Really, I don't know what to think of this place. It is a perfectly laid out store in a perfect location. It just could be run so much better, and be more consistent in quality and a lot better in service.
The good stuff is excellent and the bad stuff is horrendous.
Good stuff: meat pies (though overpriced I think), fresh veggies a little over market price but where else can you go, nice fresh meats but nothing I can afford without a bank loan.
Horrendous stuff: anything from that deli lunch counter: Chinese food (?) that a Chinese person would never eat, boxed hot dinners at lunch time that, depending on what they are, can be greasy and tough, or pasta that is just plain mush.
I used to buy the boxed dinners from the freezer in the evening - they take the dinners that didn't sell in the daytime and put them in the freezer and sell them for 3 for $12. Sounds like a deal, right? The first one was good and I got sucked in. From then on I was careening downhill but thought I was just choosing the wrong ones and there was nowhere else for me to get food at that time without driving into Belleville.
I got pork chops that were hard and greasy. There was tough roast beef, with some kind of roasted potatoes that became like wet cardboard when thawed after being frozen. Veggies were rubbery after being frozen and re-heated, but I don't think they were ever fresh anyway. Sausage stews that were burning spicy hot. They could have warned me, my stomach can't take that and I hate puking right after dinner. And my personal favourite, "Chicken Surprise" The only surprise was that it contained no chicken.
Let's face it, these frozen dinners have the taste and consistency of floor sweepings. Aside from that, they are poorly labeled so you cant see inside the frozen boxes to know if the chicken is dark or white meat (hate white meat and bought some by accident of course. Probably worst of all, the boxes are undated, so how old are they. I should have given up on them a long time ago...
Staff can be friendly or quite unfriendly, and don't bother asking questions about the products as they probably won't know.
That's enough of that. read more
