Seasoned them, put them on the BBQ. And... Toughest, most flavourless meat I have ever had in my life. So bad, my wife and I each had a couple of bites, and pushed them away. Eventually we thin-sliced them and put them into a slow cooker for a stew, the way you would with stewing beef. Still tough, but at least the juice we added gave some flavour. But, really, I rarely put $42 worth of steak into a stew. I have no idea what they do with their meat - obviously it's not even decently aged - but that was awful.

They also dry age 21 days and sometimes longer but depends on the meat and what the butcher feels is best. The steaks and roasts have an incredible meaty flavour which makes me wonder where the flavour goes from supermarket meat? Please take your time when choosing what you put in your body. Get to know the farmer and make wise choices. We have tried a few different beef farmers in the area and Cartwright is by far the best value and quality we have found to date.

The shop just…read moreopened on the May 24th weekend, and so far, we've had tasty, tender steaks (T-bone, and strip loin), generous sized, delicious sausages, and juicy, fresh chicken breast. There is also a deli counter with sandwich meats and and great choice of fresh salads. A hot table was just added that includes rotisserie chicken, ribs, roasted vegetables, etc. In addition to the meats, fresh salmon and sea bass were also on offer. The couple who run the shop, Terry and Maggie, are very friendly and helpful. We look forward to trying all of the other items from this gourmet shop!
