I wanted to like GBC, after meeting friends there for a drink. I hadn't been out that way for a long time: before Pyramid Brewery closed. The beer is OK as is the food. The one star is for the staff allowing dogs into the dining room. Yes, dogs are everywhere now in bars and restaurants in the Bay Area. That doesn't make it less against the health laws or less unsanitary.The staff was clearly more interested in being "dog friendly" than enforcing health codes which made me wonder about their attention to other sanitation requirements read more

Stopped in on Friday to check it out. Noticed GBC on the building for over a year, and now that it has opened I decided to check it out. Its in a nice spot, but parking can be a bit of a conundrum if you aren't from the area (Protip: try to park on 7th or 8th Street, or on Camelia). Anywho, first impression on walking in was.. wow. I love the deco. Reminds me of what I would like to think a 19th century miner or railroad worker pub would look like. The staff were helpful and accomodating. I also dig being close to where the beer is brewed (super close!) As an ale fan, I only sampled their ale selection and can't speak of their porters or saisons. Their beer is legit, and I love their growlers! They also have "bag" growlers, which I think is pretty nifty considering they are cheap and reusable. I noticed that they don't serve food, but read in shop that they allow outside food which is 10 brownie points for them. I realize they just had a soft opening, and are very new to the market but I would like to see more people in there, which is why I am writing this review. First time I heard of Gilman Brewing Company was while having a few beers at the Pacific Standard Taproom in Downtown Berkeley. The beer I tried was money, so decided to make my way over to the brewery. Place is easy to find. Huge building directly on Gilman Street. Not sure if there's any additional parking, I found myself a spot on Gilman. The brewery is clean and has a pretty great rustic vibe going for it. I felt like I was walking into a mine shaft, but not so much the dangerous kind. They are offering a pretty solid variety of beers. Saisons to IPA's, porters and more. I went with the beertender recommended French Saison. Such a superb brew! The brewery features two seating areas (upstairs and downstairs), a projector showing whatever they feel like (today it happened to be a baseball game), and dog friendliness seems to be top of mind (plenty of pups roaming the brewery). Can't wait to come back with friends. Gilman Brewing Company is an awesome addition to the Berkeley brewery community. read more

Saison were refreshing on a warm day. They offer samplers of 6 so why not try them all! Best part about this place is I can bring the doodle and enjoy my brews. Best beer I have had South of Russian River in Santa Rosa and and North of Stone Brewery in Escondido.

Actually came here after a yelp event that was featuring their brew. Had the Gilman Belgian Saison, which was pretty good. I wish they had more food here. They do have some snacks like jerky and nuts. They allow food in from next door as well. Overall, very casual vibe. There's also an upstairs seating area as well. read more

Great place to grab a beer and chat with some friends. We decided to try this place out after grabbing a couple of drinks at Fieldwork, and I have to say that I prefer Gilman! The atmosphere was pretty chill on a sunny Sunday afternoon. There were a few other parties there, but other than that relatively quiet. The place has an industrial feel to it, and they open up all the doors so that you can enjoy the outside while still remaining covered. I do have to say that I prefer a sours, which they have a generous selection of. They had a lot of fruity options, which was right up my alley. A few of my favorites were Pineapple Jardin, Blackberry Hibou, Guava Blood Orange Jardin. The bartenders are also super friendly and made great recommendations according to my tastes. Unfortunately beers only come in 5 and 13 oz pours. $6 for the bigger pour is reasonable though. The place is spacious. We come here a lot and prefer Gilman over some of the other breweries in our neighborhood. I can't say enough about the people who work here! Especially given the times that we are living in. Today we we're having a beer after work, sitting outside and enjoying some sort of normalcy. A table opened up nearby and the people next to us decided to abandon their smaller table and go after the larger table. This by the way is not cool and didn't allow for either table to be disinfected. A Gilman team member tried to remind the guilty party what the rules where but they didn't seem happy to be admonished in front of the people that they just potential gave a deadly virus to and became enraged and yelled at the staff. I commend the Gilman team for trying to work under these harsh conditions while dealing with certified shitheads. You are better people than most. Keep up the great work. Don't be afraid to kick people out if they can't follow the rules. Stay safe. read more

Really fun place! I love how they decorated nicely and small nice fun touch like the fun little rack to carry 6 flights! Very interesting flavors of beer such as jalapeno and maple smoked bacon! Gilman Brewing is simply okay. But, if you're in the area looking for a brewery, go to Fieldworks. Showed up around 9pm for a beer and it was alright, nothing special. Selection was surprisingly small. The place was dead empty and the beer pourer was disgruntled and curt. When one goes to a brewery, one expects good recommendations and service, that's just how it is. If you're not passionate about beer and don't like talking to people, pouring beer at a place like this is not the job for you. Positives are the area is nice with their cute string lights and the staff kept the lights on for my friends and me outside after they closed which was a nice gesture. read more

AMAZING pastrami sandwich with a cup of awesome tomatoes basil soup. I had an awesome pineapple sour and my husband had a good Pale ale and some IPA's.
