Pretty good with alterations. Definitely my go-to place. I have had a sports coat taken in on the back. I have had pants shortened. The loss of a star was when I had them add an inch to several pants. They did something weird and added a 2 inch cuff to the outside. Very strange. I had them do that to another pair and they didn't add the cuff which is how it should be. read more

This is my go-to place for all types of alterations. I've gotten 2 bridesmaid dresses altered here and they did an excellent job. Also have turned a few dresses that shrunk/became too short into shirts. Their prices are reasonable and I've never had an issue with my alterations. We had the pleasure of working with Sandy on alterations for my daughter's wedding gown, my daughter had extensive changes that she wanted. She decided she wanted To add sleeves and have the back changed to a low cut "V" shaped open back. Thanks to fellow Yelp'ers I found a great place for alterations. My grandma is a seamstress and is usually the one who alters my clothes. But since she's across the country I had to find somebody else to do it. I found this place on Yelp and was sold. I came in on a Sunday when Sandy, who does the actual alterations, wasn't in, but her daughter was. I was ok with it because I only needed my ball dress hemmed a few inches. She was as nice as can be and told me that she'd call me with the price of alteration. I wasn't expecting a phone call so soon, but I got one less than half an hour later. I was nervous about finding alterations for my wedding dress. She was highly recommended in the area. She did a fantastic job! Very thorough. And the cost was surprising! There is a charcoal sash sewed into my waist line and I wasn't sure if she was able to add in the extra inches were needed. I was very surprised how well the stitching is. And you can't tell there is any change. She took 6 inches of toule from the hips forward. And it is just fantastic! Any future alterations I will need, I will defiantly go back! read more

I then trusted them with a dress with a broken zipper and the work continued to be great quality. I have now taken my wedding gown (to have them fix what the Bridal store's seamstress did) and a bridesmaid's dress that needed a lot of work! I had a sudden and unexpected death in the family and needed to travel for the services. I quickly purchased a new suit jacket that needed a small sleeve alteration. The jacket didn't have functional buttons, so the alteration should have been quick and simple. Gill's advertises 1 hour service, and I had a plane to catch in the afternoon, so I was at Gill's at 9am when they opened. I walked in, a guy came out of the back and asked what I needed, I started to explain what I needed and my time crunch and he threw his hands up, said "no!", and walked off. Nothing else. So I let myself out. I was willing to pay for the expedited service, but I get it if someone is booked, but to only shout and walk off seems excessively rude. If you don't want inquiries into one hour service, don't post ONE HOUR SERVICE on the door. Just post NO SERVICE, which is what you offered me. Went to another tailor, who also could not help, but at least made a few calls to their tailors and was polite and attempted to help... read more

I brought in a gown to get a few inches off the length and have it let out an inch and when I asked how much it would be the lady simply said "we'll see"... the cost shouldn't have even more than 80$ and they charged 150! They are very expensive. She charged me $12 to sew on 6 buttons AND, I had to buy the buttons myself! I do not live near this business and had to make 4 trips to finally get the items finished the way we first discussed. The first 2 times I saw what I thought we had discussed would have been my end product, turned out terrible. I too had to purchase the material for the alterations on top of the cost of them. She really didn't alter much but added pieces (material I bought) to the already made items and shortened a dress. 4 items cost me over $150 - I will not be using this company again read more

We had ordered Star Trek: The Next Generation and Deep Space Nine uniforms online; they came from China, and were huge! Best Alterations shop ever..... Rediscovered the Gill's alterations here in Marietta on Canton Hgy I used years ago. They remembered me when I walked in....my dress was a mess and time was getting short before my son's wedding. They understood my concern and knew exactly what needed to be done. Promised me the dress by Friday and when I got there they had waited to complete the project so I could try it on and make sure it was exactly what I wanted, then offered to finish it while I waited. Since it was convenient I opted to come back after running a few errands and received the call that the dress was finished before I managed to return. I recommend them highly. Hope if anyone needs alterations you will Google them and give them your business. Years of experience and staying up to date on new techniques, style and fabric is priceless. My dress was leveled and hemmed to perfection after they spent a long time carefully removing by hand the hem another tailor had botched. What a blessing it was not to have to go searching for another dress but instead to have my "perfect color and style " completely restored to what I had hoped. This place is unbelievable! I dropped off jeans on Monday to have 1 inch taken off and was told I could pick them up Thursday. The price seemed a bit high, but I wanted my jeans this weekend. On Wednesday afternoon, I received a call asking how much I wanted taken off. He had written it down, but it was a different person so I told her. Then she tried to tell me to pick them up on Monday! I pushed for Thursday as originally promised and she agreed. I received ANOTHER call 4 hours later. Again, she wanted to know how much to take off because she forgot (yes, she actually said she forgot!). I told her again but told her not to touch my jeans, I would just pick them up unaltered and go elsewhere! My request is not that difficult, and at that point I was worried about them altering my expensive jeans incorrectly! When I picked them up on Thursday, she argued with me about taking them without having them altered like I was just difficult, and they had done nothing to prompt it. In all fairness, I never got to the alterations, maybe they're fantastic... I won't be dealing with the bad communication and service again to find out! read more

Like some of the others, the reviews gave me high hopes that I'd have a great experience but unfortunately that was not so. I purchased specialty fabric & a pattern to have a T shirt made. I explained what I wanted & thought it would be a seamless experience being that a pattern was provided. When I picked up the design the sizing was a boy's small instead of a men's small, despite that I communicated that with the gentleman & he circled the correct measurement/size on the pattern package. They assured me they could fix the problem with the larger shirt using the extra fabric I had left & would make an additional shirt. They asked me to pay the $40 for the design then instead of when I came back the second time, which I did. And mind you that I'm driving from downtown Atlanta due to the outstanding seamstress reviews. So on the second trip, I only had one shirt & no extra fabric. I had to wait for them to find my pattern when I asked for it back & there seemed to be no sense of urgency or care regarding my disappointment. Now to their credit, I liked the work the seamstress did & one of the ladies seemed like she wanted to help but the gentleman was not willing. I explained my time/gas/fabric were all wasted to no avail. He was careless & offered no solution when I asked if he had any suggestions on making the situation right. I was highly disappointed in the customer service. Highly. Terrible. So terrible that this is the 1st yelp review I've ever written. read more

Ok let me start off by saying that Gill's was highly recommended to me! I was so excited to go and have my dress done. It was a very special dress, It's mine and my twin sister 50th birthday!!! I took my dress in on Oct.28th and the young girl working was very sweet and made the adjustments that i needed done. She told me it would be ready in two weeks. I went back two weeks later and they had not done anything! I was told that the young girl had taken it up incorrectly. No one had called me in two weeks!!!! But i let it go things happen! The lady who did the adjustments this time was great! She took it up the right way and i was so happy because I felt my dress would look great now! I was told again two weeks to pick it up. i went in on Nov 30th to pick up my dress(I was so excited!) and it still wasnt done. Another lady was finishing it up. i was told to give them another hour. When i came back I tried my dress on and i could just cry!!! It didn't look good! it wasn't taken up right! i have now waited 4weeks on a dress that looks awful! The lady there tried to quickly fix things and it just got worse! So i was told to leave it and pick it up on Dec.5th! I went back in today to get my dress and I must say it's ok at best!!! I feel the alterations were done 1/2 way! But now i leave on Friday so I just have to live with my dress!!! i go to pay and she tells me it's going to be $150.00!!!! I was told the first time I took it in $75.00! She did discount it $20.00! But I'm so upset!! I thought the dress would be perfect! It's not and this whole experience has been awful! I would not recommend this place for special occassion outfits maybe if you need pants hemmed or something small! read more

ABSOLUTE WORST EXPERIENCE I've ever had with a tailor in over 30 years! I have quite the designer closet, and I've been working with tailors since I was a teenager. I needed a minor repair done in a hurry and on a Sunday. Needless to say, there weren't many options. But I read these great online reviews about Gill's Alternations. So I took my brand new $3k jacket taken in, as it had 2 tiny moth holes in it that were the size of a quarter of a pencil eraser. Was told they would hand sew them, as was appropriate. When came back, she had cut pieces out of the jacket to make patches for underneath the holes. On top of which, she both heavily stitched and glued the patches underneath the holes. Now the glue, the patches and the stitching all show through the fabric, which is roughly 20 times bigger than the original holes. So now I have a completely useless jacket I cannot wear. Plus, if I try to take the stitching out, and peal the patches off, it will make the original holes 20 times bigger. I have never seen such amateur work in my life. Absolutely horrific! And who thinks it's okay to cut a jacket one place to make patches for it somewhere else???? Who does that?????? It wasn't some complicated, ladeedah repair. It was to hand-sew two small holes. She has officially ruined a brand new $3k jacket. Can't believe anyone uses these people. But you couldn't pay me to go back. read more
