Consistently reinvesting to improve
Sight lines are quality throughout
Competent concessions
So, unlike years past, when the stadium sat largely alone in the immediate vicinity, now when you're here for the Patriots or Revs or a concert, you've already navigated an ever-growing complex of features and benefits at Patriot Place. What the stadium itself needs to have may be a little different. The good news is that Gillette isn't taking that for granted.
For the most part, long gone are the days when visitors can walk up to the stadium and buy tickets in concert or game day, so leave that aside. But when you arrive, ticket in hand, here's what you can expect:
-if you didn't take the train and don't have a dedicated parking pass, anticipate a squirrelly network of parking options, ranging from small private lots a couple of miles away on Rt1, to the main sanctioned lots closer in - bring $50 to be safe but you can likely find quality parking for $40, and expect to walk 0.5-1.2 miles total, from your car to the entry gate
-typically, long lines at security/entry: these can be tough to time versus the event start time, so leave yourself leeway if you're big on being seated for the opener
-wide concourses with TVs, restrooms at frequent intervals, team shops, charity and raffle stations, occasional guest service windows and ATMs, and food/drink concessions (more there in a moment)
-food is plentiful, and essentially falls into the fast casual bucket - wings/tenders, pretzels, burgers, steak & cheese, and the like are what you'll find most easily, though lately, there have been more offerings of grilled chicken salad, vegetarian-friendly options, and similar. Water bottles, hot chocolate, Gatorade, soda, and similar are heavily featured, with souvenir cups or not. Expect to pay a premium, but not quite highway-robbery levels. Fuller meals are the domain of the luxury boxes.
-drinks are in a good place here; if American lager is what you like, it's everywhere you look, as expected. However, there are some cocktail and wine kiosks, as well as a more prominent place for craft beer primarily from New England - as of Dec'18, this ranged from Night Shift and Aeronaut to Peak Organic, Wormtown, Lawson's Finest, and in a rare treat, Tree House Sap was available. I haven't seen craft done better at a stadium yet, and they have headroom to grow
-there are numerous places to get away from your seat and enjoy a different vantage point - this is one of my favorite parts of the stadium. Various bridges, concourse breaks, and the like open up with choice, wide-angle field views. I typically start near the DraftKings bar, looking up at the Jumbotron or out over the field before walking around every game day enjoying some of the higher-elevation spots for much of the duration.
-scoreboards update regularly and clearly for the action going on in front of you, as well as the out of town scores and fantasy impact
-generally, despite the occasional slip, most people are on good behavior, and security is tight if incidents occur - I've brought young kids without a worry
Most of this is Patriots-specific, but Revs games are also enjoyable for many of the same reasons, and likewise for the National College Lacrosse Championships held here.
Concerts are not a cozy affair, but that's not what the stadium experience is, so you knew that. Be ready to sing along loudly and be caught up in the action - just not TOO caught up; CountryFest can get rowdy, so stay hydrated and aware of your surroundings, pardner.
Overall, Gillette really is a quality stadium experience that takes its job to keep evolving seriously. Recommended. read more
