I absolutely hate the food here. The first time we came here, we got the French onion soup. It was awful. We decided to give it another go. The second time we came here, still awful. I got the burger and it so dry even though I ordered it medium rare. Everything here is just so blah..and not worthy of going to. Exactly half bar and half restaurant, Gildea's does a good job of both. The menu has a lot of the mainstays of Irish cuisine, and there's always interesting specials. The waitstaff is very friendly. If you're there to drink, the bar is very well stocked. In a town overflowing with bars and restaurants, Gildea's is consistently good-to-great and has never disappointed. Yummy food with a warm authentic Irish feel. Food was a bit overpriced so it would be great if there were more lower priced sandwich options to balance out the menu. Also, the beer selection is pretty standard, nothing too creative. It would be nice if there were a few more draft beer selections besides the usually Guinness, Bud and Smithwicks. It's a typical pub a little ways away from the little cluster of bars and because of this it generally boasts an older crowd. Atmosphere is very laid back. Decor has probably not been updated since the 1970s or 80s if yore being generous..and while they bathrooms are tiny they are clean enough and can accommodate your needs. read more

My husband and I are not from this area and wanted a good place to go for St. Patty's Day. By the other great reviews on Yelp, we decided to go to Gildea's. We love to have our annual corned beef and cabbage at an authentic Irish place. I do think it is an authentic Irish restaurant and bar, however it is seriously lacking in that special Irish charm. The bar was nearly full, but lacked the festive feeling you get on St. Patty's Day. We were seated and given lunch menus because it was before 3 PM. The corned beef and cabbage were listed under entrees. The menu specifically stated that all entrees come with your choice of soup and choice of potatoes. When we ordered we were not asked what choice of soup or potatoes we would like. Since we figured the entree would be sufficient, we didn't bother to ask the server. They did not have the brand of wine I like, so I ordered a Cosmo with Grey Goose. When I got the drink it wasn't made properly. Yuck! When our corned beef and cabbage came, we asked the server if they had regular mustard instead of the spicy brown variety that was on the table. The server replied that the spicy brown was their regular mustard. Hmmmmmmmmm! When the couple sitting at the table in front of us left we noticed that they had yellow mustard at their table. Ok on to our food! Terrible! The corned beef was way overcooked and was so dry you had to wash it down with water. The cabbage was undercooked. The boiled potatoes were ok, but hey it's hard to ruin them. Extremely disappointed! When we got our bill, my husband noticed that we were overcharged. We pointed it out to one of the servers and they took care of it. I wondered to myself if they did that to others who didn't notice they were being overcharged. Went to Gildeas tonight We've always been satisfied with the food But not crazy about the only waitress they Have She started off by telling us they ran out of. BRead There was only 2 other tables and it was early in a Friday night!! Then my wine comes and there is a lipstick stain on the glass The white tablecloth under the glass table is all stained and looks like it has never been changed The food was good. I had a nice piece of Salmon It took a while for her to bring the check and then ring up the credit card And at the end if the meal she brings. Read to the next table So I asked her I thought you didn't have any bread? Her response was we only have rye or white No rolls do you want some now? Well Noo thanks we are done!! But why didn't she offer that to us to begin with??? Good Quality food in a relaxed atmosphere served by a pleasant and courteous staff. Recently I had the Rack of Lamb and it was excellent, my wife said the same for her salmon. If the cream of potato soup is the soup of the day it is a must and you can't go wrong with any steak. I have to make one note about people remarking on the décor: the place is warm and inviting in the style of a traditional pub. Gildeas is a hidden gem. Hands down they run the best Irish pub in Rockland County, NY, and the Pascack Valley, NJ combined. It is a small restaurant with a comfortable atmosphere, appropriate both for a special evening out as well as a casual meal. The food is consistently delicious and fresh. Whether you are having authentic Irish pub fare such as shepard's pie, or comfort food - fish and chips, or a fresh seafood dinner such as grilled salmon, everything is always excellent made to order with fresh ingredients. One of our favorite items is the clams casino appetizer, prepared with "made from scratch" cream spinach and the classic bacon served with the dish, it is so delicious. If it is not available we request it and the chef will prepare it special for us if the ingredients are available. The burgers are also excellent. Gildeas continues to be our "go to" restaurant when we want a comfortable place to dine with excellent food and very good service. My partner and I have been to this typical Irish pub style neighborhood restaurant several times for midweek lunches. The food has always been very good and the service friendly and conscientious. This past Saturday, we decided to have a casual dinner here and were very disappointed. Granted, the bar and dining room were both full and lively, but this is to be expected on a Saturday evening so that should not have been a problem or surprise for management. Our server was either inexperienced or just completely overwhelmed, other patrons had to get her attention for us more than once and it was not until our salads were consumed that she informed us the kitchen was out of one of our entrees! We were never served any bread and when our dinner finally arrived it was a total disappointment! I had decided to go off my perennial diet and have the fish and chips because on previous visit I had found it to be delicious! This evening, while the fish breading was golden brown and crispy, the fish inside was very undercooked and I had not ordered sushi!The fish was completely translucent and mushy while the chips were almost to the point of being burnt. Obviously, the fry cook was having a bad night. My partner's steak, which had been ordered medium rare, was well done so I guess the broiler person was having a bad night as well! Maybe they were the same person! When clearing the table, our server never questioned the half eaten food and seemed happy to have us leave! Really a disappointing evening! The take away for us is, Gildea's for lunch, Joe&Joe's for dinner! read more
