Gilberto and his team made and installed 6 wooden double-glazed windows into existing window openings in our early 20th century house, removing old, loose single-glazed wood windows. They were all double-hung. Gilberto was easy to talk with, he gladly explained the different wood species choices, sound-proofing options (weatherstripping and laminated glass) and how they'd do the install (dealing with our existing weights and sash-balance conditions). The installation went well, his workers were very courteous and kept things clean. We are very happy with our new windows which are better at keeping the cold out and minimizing outside noise. And his price was significantly below the estimate we got from a competitor. We did need to be proactive when it came to phone calls and scheduling. Gilberto Arrellano, the boss of Gilberto Windows, was a pleasure to work with. He was easy to schedule and appeared for our estimate on time. He was communicative, fairly priced, no upsell, and very good at what he does. I live in a fourplex built in 1907. Old woodframe windows. There's a trio of windows that make up a bay. The wood frame on only the lower half of just one of the windows had fallen apart. Gilberto told me he could replace the frame and window of just that one lower half, plus prime the inside frame, and prime and paint the outside, for $1260. I'm so grateful! I don't know what I would have done if I hadn't found him here on Yelp. Another window company told me it would be necessary to completely replace all three windows in the bay for a whopping $8000. That business definitely tried to upsell the job, which I know happens with small jobs like mine. But I do not need all 3 windows replaced, just the lower half of the center window! Time frame for Gilberto to manufacture is a few months less wait time compared to ALL companies I checked out. Prices are more than fair, great quality! The weight of the previous aged windows to the new ones were a great difference so hoping I won't have to winterize as I had come accustomed to. I paid a little difference on top of them being auto paint primed so I don't have to hire a painter to paint them. Easy process throughout, great craftsmanship. Needed to quickly fix a cracked window pane, and Gilberto responded quickly, professionally and with friendliness. He sent his associate, Hector, at the time I needed him the next day. Hector's work was challenging as he had to disassemble a wonky, 100+ year old, wooden window casing in order to replace the pane. I was replacing a few original wood windows to my building and got quotes from 6 different window contractors. As some of you may know, replacing original wood windows that are street facing in SF is a very painful task and expensive! You have to get the proper permits and replace them with same material and operation. Gilberto only does custom made wood windows and they came out perfect! I have an older home and needed to have a wood window replaced. I had called another window company to take a look and they wanted to turn my small project into a big project including knocking out a part of my wall and replacing with aluminum windows for almost $8,000. I got on the Internet and was convinced by all of the positive reviews that Gilberto would be able to replace my window for a reasonable cost and I was right. Gilberto was able to give me an estimate based on measurements and photos that I sent him and the quote was a fraction of the price that I had received from the other window company. He followed up with his own measurements. The custom window was built and ready to be installed in about two weeks. Gilberto's installers came and finished the job in about an hour, which included uninstalling and reinstalling my blinds. They were quick and efficient and I am so happy with the result. This is an overdue review but I can write with confidence about the durability and insulation benefits of having solid wood windows. I had 11 large windows installed in 2018 to replace nasty old aluminum double hung windows. Gilberto recognized that the original style of windows had been casement style.  Who knew! So that's what we went with. They turned out really beautiful and changed the whole look of our home by returning it to the original art moderne style architecture. My one niggle is with the painting which must have been sticky because when they were closed and later opened the paint pulled away in places where they touched the frames. I do not have them open often so it doesn't have aesthetic implications but to avoid this issue make sure paint is completely dry prior to install. But I say this as a caution otherwise the Gilberto is great to work with and his craftsmanship is high. read more

We needed to replace all 11 windows in our Victorian flat. The windows were painted shut and drafty. Gilberto came by and did a thorough inspection. He actually caught details that other window installers didn't - like the fact that one of the glass panels in a window had slipped and there was 0.5 centimeter gap letting in cold air! His bid came in as the most reasonable for double-hung wood windows among the 4 quotes that I gathered. He custom made the Douglas Fir wood windows in his own shop and installed all 11 windows over the course of 2 days. Our painter (Paul Tyre) came by to check out our windows and thought the work was excellent. He mentioned how many installers mangle the wood frames and he thought Gilberto did a great job of not damaging our old Victorian frames. He also liked how all the windows were already primed so painting would be easy. To top it all off, after the installation of the window in our nursery was done, there was a tiny gap due to just how old the frame was. Gilberto came back (free of charge) and did a custom fit frame piece to make sure the baby wouldn't be cold! :) I'd recommend working with Gilberto. Can it be possible that I had a perfect contractor experience? Thanks to Gilberto, the answer is YES!! Here's what I mean: After getting bids from several wooden window fabricators, with prices up to $28,000 for two windows, I came across Gilberto's listing and called him. Unlike every other company I called, Gilberto made an appointment to see the job the next day and he actually showed up and took rough measurements. Within three days I had his estimate and was shocked and delighted --$10,000 for the two windows made with Douglas Fir including installation and priming, not $15,000 which one guy proposed without installation and not $28,000 which one company proposed but warned me that it would take at least five months before they could start the job. To be candid, I was skeptical about the price; how could Gilberto be so much cheaper! But since the other companies never bothered to answer my phone calls about the reasons for their pricing, I chose Gilberto. Lucky me! His crew took just two months to fabricate the windows and yesterday they showed up at 9 AM to install them. Boy, I really lucked out. Everything fit perfectly and per city codes, the new windows were exact copies of the original windows. During the installation he discovered a little rot in the sills, which he quickly excised and replaced with fir strips. First, Gilberto's quote was reasonable and well under many of the others that we looked at. We hired him to replace 12 large windows and another 12 smaller ones and were which needed to be custom so that they matched rest of the units in our building and this was no problem for him. Throughout the process Gilberto was responsive and reliable. I visited his shop before installation to inspect the windows and was quite impressed by the quality of his operation and the skill involved in some of the other projects he was working on.
