I like fixing things in my house myself when I can, but when two of my original Victorian double-hung windows from 1900 broke, I watched exactly one YouTube video and knew I needed a professional to resolve the issue for fear of making mistakes. Their rate was very reasonable and they were able to come quickly (a godsend with the various heatwaves we've had recently) and fixed the sash ropes so the windows now work well and you wouldn't even know they were once broken. Eventually I may want to install new windows (that match the previous style) in my bedroom due to noise disturbances from outside, and I won't hesitate to reach out to Gilberto Arellano Windows to assist with that project as well. read more

Professional. Craftsmen. Ethical. Efficient. Dedicated. Responsive. Gilberto Arellano Windows are all this and more. We needed to replace failed double-pane bay windows in our 1911 Edwardian and after 3 disappointing bids (confusing, un-professional, late) I called Gilberto Arellano. Best call ever! Gilberto came to our house, measured, presented a bid on the same day, and met every possible hope and expectation. He was helpful negotiating our vision of colored glass, tempered glass and design elements. On the day of installation, three professional craftsmen arrived and six hours later, after focused shaving and fitting, our three double-hung windows work to perfection. Gilberto Arellano and his team of craftsmen know precisely the art of wood windows in San Francisco. Dream project! read more

Had a wonderful experience with Gilberto and team! They custom made dual pane transom windows for the interior/exterior of our victorian house. They also do wooden sash windows. Prices were great, service was excellent, and timing was fast. Highly recommend for home windows in San Francisco! read more

Gilberto and his team made and installed 6 wooden double-glazed windows into existing window openings in our early 20th century house, removing old, loose single-glazed wood windows. They were all double-hung. Gilberto was easy to talk with, he gladly explained the different wood species choices, sound-proofing options (weatherstripping and laminated glass) and how they'd do the install (dealing with our existing weights and sash-balance conditions). The installation went well, his workers were very courteous and kept things clean. We are very happy with our new windows which are better at keeping the cold out and minimizing outside noise. And his price was significantly below the estimate we got from a competitor. We did need to be proactive when it came to phone calls and scheduling. Gilberto's company was pretty busy during the time we hired him. So it was mostly on me to call him and check on status/next steps. The whole process took a few months. Some neighbors commented on how nice the windows looked. read more

Gilberto Arrellano, the boss of Gilberto Windows, was a pleasure to work with. He was easy to schedule and appeared for our estimate on time. He was communicative, fairly priced, no upsell, and very good at what he does. I live in a fourplex built in 1907. Old woodframe windows. There's a trio of windows that make up a bay. The wood frame on only the lower half of just one of the windows had fallen apart. Gilberto told me he could replace the frame and window of just that one lower half, plus prime the inside frame, and prime and paint the outside, for $1260. I'm so grateful! I don't know what I would have done if I hadn't found him here on Yelp. Another window company told me it would be necessary to completely replace all three windows in the bay for a whopping $8000. That business definitely tried to upsell the job, which I know happens with small jobs like mine. But I do not need all 3 windows replaced, just the lower half of the center window! Gilberto stuck with what I was needed and did a fine job. Installation went easily. I will definitely use him again. Highly recommend! read more

THIS window company is the real deal! Gilberto replaced a large wood window at the front of our house. The quality was perfect. The price was very reasonable. We have had two banks of original wood windows replaced in the past few years by two different local companies. I will happily attest that Gilbert Arellano is committed to excellent service and the highest quality. read more

Everything was as I had hoped and expected. Gilberto is easy to deal with and very professional

Excellent quality work from a family business. Old school, they do careful, meticulous work and very easy people to work with. We were considering replacing our 100-year-old windows with new Marvins but in the end wanted to retain the character of the house and went with Gilberto, and are very happy we did! The windows fit perfectly and they even primed and painted them for us prior to installation. 100% recommend. read more

Gilberto did an amazing job replacing a set of 8 custom windows in our living room. We talked to several window contractors, and Gilberto offered the best combination of price and quality, as evidenced by many of the great reviews he has on Yelp. Our experience working with him was fantastic throughout. He was really easy to communicate with, explained the options and pricing for different types of glass, and kept us updated throughout the process. Gilberto even helped us choose and installed some custom hardware that we found for the window lifts, locks, and pulleys, to make sure it matched the aesthetic of our old windows. The installation itself went very smoothly. Gilberto's crew got everything installed in one day, and Gilberto himself came by to help with the installation and inspect everything at the end. He also connected us with a great painter - Larry - who came over afterwards and perfectly matched the original stain of our window frames and sills. The windows function perfectly, and they match our space just as well as our original windows. We also love the new laminate glass, which insulates heat much better than our old windows. I would highly recommend working with Gilberto for any custom window work you need done - he is one of the best in the Bay Area! read more

They replaced 6 double-sash windows in my 100+ year old condo with double-pane + laminate, and I could not have been happier with the work and quality of the windows. The quote came in slightly below another window company, but that wasn't the only reason I chose them. I felt like he was more invested in the windows being done right, and helped walk me through the fact that they were going to be very heavy windows which needed more counter-weights. The windows feel serious (best way to describe them), and I know they are solid and legit, and going to last. Highly recommend them! read more

Excellent, professional service. Beautiful windows at a fair price . Highly recommend.

Reliable, friendly, responsive and honest, with quality work! I called in the morning to call about a window repair. Gilberto assessed the situation and called me back with a quote minutes after. Despite his busy schedule, he came to fix it and finished in time. The estimate was reasonable and I even asked him to take a look at other windows in the house I may need addressed. He was very knowledgeable about the issues other windows may cause in the future and took all factors into consideration. So happy I decided to give Gilberto a call before making the decision to actually committing to another company. Gilberto will be my go-to for any window/sliding door issues going forward due to his high work ethic and reliability. Thank you Gilberto! Hope to work with you again in the future! read more

Gilberto did an excellent job replacing our vintage kitchen window and repairing the broken rope pull in our vintage bathroom window. He was responsive, professional and had follow through, unlike other window repair companies we also contacted. We highly recommend Gilberto Arellano Windows! read more

I'm giving him 2 stars because he occasionally answered the phone. He sent his team to inspect the work, making me visit twice. He provided a high quote, then limited the availability for the work to after-hours or Saturdays. Despite confirming they would come on Saturday, they didn't show up or notify us. He didn't respond to calls seeking an explanation. I can't trust someone who doesn't communicate. I'm surprised he's highly ranked on Yelp. Good luck with your projects, everyone. read more

This is the second time I have had Gilberto's company replace a double paned window in my living room because of condensation between the glass. Both times he was quick to respond to my initial phone call and easy to work with. The work is a job well done and completely satisfactory. The window is sparkling clean and looks brand new. I am happy to give Gilberto 5 stars! read more

We recently needed to have two complete window frames and sashes replaced because of rain damage from last winters storms. Excellent workmanship.Gilberto succeeded where others had failed! A+++ I highly recommend. Full story: I had a replacement wood window made for my 100+ Spanish med house. Several carpenters came out to install the window and they all failed. I spoke with Gilberto and he sent Nelson to work on my window. In less than an hour the window was in and working beautifully. The price was very reasonable. I will definitely use Gilberto again if I need work on my vintage windows again. read more

Gilberto did an excellent job of creating and installing two custom wood windows for our house. He was able to get them to match the other old windows in our house while using energy efficient glass. I'm so glad we decided to go with him instead of ordering factory made windows which would have taken twice as long, cost significantly more, and not matched our existing windows. read more

Needed to quickly fix a cracked window pane, and Gilberto responded quickly, professionally and with friendliness. He sent his associate, Hector, at the time I needed him the next day. Hector's work was challenging as he had to disassemble a wonky, 100+ year old, wooden window casing in order to replace the pane. After quickly assessing the scope, he got to work and finished the job within 90 minutes. He replaced the pane, reassembled the casement, and cleaned up his mess. I highly recommend Gilberto Arellano Windows. read more

I'm very satisfied and enthused to have finally replaced my original 1920's windows from Gilberto. Time frame for Gilberto to manufacture is a few months less wait time compared to ALL companies I checked out. Prices are more than fair, great quality! The weight of the previous aged windows to the new ones were a great difference so hoping I won't have to winterize as I had come accustomed to. I paid a little difference on top of them being auto paint primed so I don't have to hire a painter to paint them. Easy process throughout, great craftsmanship. Stay away from the "much advertised CO's, no price comparison. I also like to support our local craftsman before the "rip off" large companies. I did my homework, such quality work at a decent price, in and out in a few hours . Gilberto Windows have a lifetime new customer and happy his son who is in training will continue to provide a quality much needed service, esp in SF where front facing street widows must be made from wood only per policy/code. read more

I was replacing a few original wood windows to my building and got quotes from 6 different window contractors. As some of you may know, replacing original wood windows that are street facing in SF is a very painful task and expensive! You have to get the proper permits and replace them with same material and operation. Gilberto only does custom made wood windows and they came out perfect! The turnaround time takes around 4-6 weeks. The craftsmanship and installation was great. His prices was also the most competitive out of everyone that I met with. Highly recommend Gilberto if you have a wood window replacement project! read more

Gilberto was recommended to us by friends, and we were really grateful. We needed some period correct windows for our 1920's California bungalow, and Gilberto really delivered. He came round measured all the windows, a total of ten, quoted a reasonable price, and a few weeks later brought round some beautifully made, fully finished windows with modern double pane glass installed. He and his team did a superb job installing them, and thoroughly cleaned up once they had finished. Gilberto personally oversaw every aspect of this job, was extremely easy to work with, and obviously takes a lot of pride in his work, while making sure you are completely satisfied and happy with the job. The references he provided were also extremely positive, and I would not hesitate to recommend him to anyone. Old world craftsmanship with modern upgrades at a very reasonable price resulting in a very high quality product and service. Gilberto and his team deserve every one of the five stars I am giving them. read more

I have an older home and needed to have a wood window replaced. I had called another window company to take a look and they wanted to turn my small project into a big project including knocking out a part of my wall and replacing with aluminum windows for almost $8,000. I got on the Internet and was convinced by all of the positive reviews that Gilberto would be able to replace my window for a reasonable cost and I was right. Gilberto was able to give me an estimate based on measurements and photos that I sent him and the quote was a fraction of the price that I had received from the other window company. He followed up with his own measurements. The custom window was built and ready to be installed in about two weeks. Gilberto's installers came and finished the job in about an hour, which included uninstalling and reinstalling my blinds. They were quick and efficient and I am so happy with the result. I got exactly what I wanted for a really good price. I would highly recommend Gilberto. It is also just an added extra to be able to support a local business. I highly recommend Gilberto! read more

This is an overdue review but I can write with confidence about the durability and insulation benefits of having solid wood windows. I had 11 large windows installed in 2018 to replace nasty old aluminum double hung windows. Gilberto recognized that the original style of windows had been casement style.  Who knew! So that's what we went with. They turned out really beautiful and changed the whole look of our home by returning it to the original art moderne style architecture. My one niggle is with the painting which must have been sticky because when they were closed and later opened the paint pulled away in places where they touched the frames. I do not have them open often so it doesn't have aesthetic implications but to avoid this issue make sure paint is completely dry prior to install. But I say this as a caution otherwise the Gilberto is great to work with and his craftsmanship is high. read more

Gilberto is responsive, delivered what he promised and all of that in a timely fashion, and great value to boot!

We needed to replace all 11 windows in our Victorian flat. The windows were painted shut and drafty. Gilberto came by and did a thorough inspection. He actually caught details that other window installers didn't - like the fact that one of the glass panels in a window had slipped and there was 0.5 centimeter gap letting in cold air! His bid came in as the most reasonable for double-hung wood windows among the 4 quotes that I gathered. He custom made the Douglas Fir wood windows in his own shop and installed all 11 windows over the course of 2 days. Our painter (Paul Tyre) came by to check out our windows and thought the work was excellent. He mentioned how many installers mangle the wood frames and he thought Gilberto did a great job of not damaging our old Victorian frames. He also liked how all the windows were already primed so painting would be easy. To top it all off, after the installation of the window in our nursery was done, there was a tiny gap due to just how old the frame was. Gilberto came back (free of charge) and did a custom fit frame piece to make sure the baby wouldn't be cold! :) I'd recommend working with Gilberto. He's an honest craftsman if you're in need of wood windows. read more

Gilberto was a delight to work with from start to finish. Very professional, as was his team, and also thorough, both with the work itself (five windows made and installed) and at the completion of the job, ensuring everything was left spotless. I highly recommend! read more

Can it be possible that I had a perfect contractor experience? Thanks to Gilberto, the answer is YES!! Here's what I mean: After getting bids from several wooden window fabricators, with prices up to $28,000 for two windows, I came across Gilberto's listing and called him. Unlike every other company I called, Gilberto made an appointment to see the job the next day and he actually showed up and took rough measurements. Within three days I had his estimate and was shocked and delighted --$10,000 for the two windows made with Douglas Fir including installation and priming, not $15,000 which one guy proposed without installation and not $28,000 which one company proposed but warned me that it would take at least five months before they could start the job. To be candid, I was skeptical about the price; how could Gilberto be so much cheaper! But since the other companies never bothered to answer my phone calls about the reasons for their pricing, I chose Gilberto. Lucky me! His crew took just two months to fabricate the windows and yesterday they showed up at 9 AM to install them. Boy, I really lucked out. Everything fit perfectly and per city codes, the new windows were exact copies of the original windows. During the installation he discovered a little rot in the sills, which he quickly excised and replaced with fir strips. By 1 PM the installation was finished and the house was vacuumed without a trace of dirt on the floors. Thank you Gilberto! read more

Very disappointed with this guy. We had scheduled a day for him to come out and quote me on replacing some windows. I made sure to be around at the scheduled time. He failed to show up and then never returned my follow up calls. He has decent reviews, but when I needed him, he turned out to be a flake. read more

Gilberto and his team were a true gem in what has become a city of unreliable, over-priced craftsmen and contractors. First, Gilberto's quote was reasonable and well under many of the others that we looked at. We hired him to replace 12 large windows and another 12 smaller ones and were which needed to be custom so that they matched rest of the units in our building and this was no problem for him. Throughout the process Gilberto was responsive and reliable. I visited his shop before installation to inspect the windows and was quite impressed by the quality of his operation and the skill involved in some of the other projects he was working on. On installation day his team was extremely efficient and I couldn't believe how quickly and well they completed the job. There was one small window that was mis-measured and Gilberto replaced with the correct on just 2 days later. Overall, a great experience. read more
