I strongly suggest you go elsewhere. Dr. Passieri was great but he has retired, or at least he only practices in Marin now. He apparently sold his San Mateo practice in June to a new guy (Huang) who looks like he is about 20 years old and has no reviews on Yelp. If you are an existing patient (of Passieri's) you will find yourself dealing with a "new company" that does not have any patient records on you; where you don't know the doctor and he doesn't know you (or your history); and where they don't take common insurance (eg, Blue Cross). They won't tell you this before you show up. You might as well just find another podiatrist on Yelp that gets good reviews. read more

I wish I would've read the previous review before I went back to Passeri. I had seen Passeri in the past and as mentioned in previous review he sold the business. The new guy does not seem to take most insurance companies, I have Blue Cross Blue Shield, and also makes you pay for everything up front. Simple inquiries around billing (how much do I owe, how do I pay?), insurance coverage, management of claims with my in network insurance provider are greeted with hostility making me feel very small and insignificant as a patient. I had custom orthotics done here and I was waiting for a phone call to indicate it was ready for pick up. Months went by and I did not get a call back only because things were tied up between my insurance and the office staff. In the end I just paid out of pocket to end the ordeal, but I would have at least appreciated better customer service in handling this matter. I made an appointment to Passeri Kenneth J to have a relatively minor problem, getting rid of ingrown toe nails, and limped out bleed with a pretty deep cut. He initially asked me why I cut my toe nails not round, so I said that's what I had read on the internet that you're supposed to cut it straight when you have ingrown toe nails. He said that's incorrect and started cutting my toe nails very short even though I said it hurt. This wound (check the photos) was the result of the Dr. Passeri Kenneth not being careful using an unsteriling nail clippers & cutting my nails too short and resulted in an infection that took 2 months of daily wound care to clear up. So, Dr. Bernard may be good at treating broken bones or fallen arches but don't go to his office seeking simple foot care. read more

My mother is almost 90 years old and has terrible feet. She wears foot and ankle braces so she can walk. These have to be laced on each morning and take about 10 minutes to put on. Dr. Passeri was recommended as someone who could custom make a pair of braces which he told us would have better support and would attach very quickly with velcro fasteners. On our first visit, Dr Passeri made molds of both of her feet and promised to have the braces made in 4 to 6 weeks. After a couple of months, he told us that the molds were not correct and had to be re-done so we went back to his office for another session. It is now over six months since the first visit and the second pair of braces that the Doctor had made are a failure. The left one hurt my mothers foot and the right brace was so poorly made that he could not even make it fit into either of the two pair of shoes she wears. He agreed that the right brace was bad and agreed to refund our money. Find another podiatrist. John read more

I took my daughter here today on short notice as we both had questionable mani-pedi's at a local nail salon. The office is nice with lots of street parking and a lot also located next door. We did not have to wait long, and the minimal wait time was not wasted, we found a Highlights Magazine and the Hidden Picture puzzle, but I digress... Neither one of us had ever been to a Podiatrist before so we found the medical charts of various foot maladies fascinating. I kind of knew what bunions were, but hammer toe? (When I busted out my rendition of "Hammer Toe"! to the tune of Hammer Time, even my daughter giggled) Dr. Passeri and his staff were wonderful. He gave us both a good exam and gave my daughter the special attention she deserved. Word to the wise - never under any circumstances let a nail salon use nail instruments that you do not witness coming out of an autoclave or ever put your feet in a "spa chair" for a pedicure. Well as a result of Palo Medical Foundation choosing not to work on my much needed foot problems, my bunion and hammer toes, my friend found Dr. Passeri! She is a RN nurse, who did her homework on Podiatrists'. I cannot tell you how happy and thankful that Dr. Passeri said he could help me. My foot's problems can only get better, not worst if nothing was done. It wasn't the insurance company; they approved the work with ease. It's been a week now, I'm confident that all goes well! I am so thankful he did the surgery so that I can walk without pain in the future years! He is great and efficient! This was a 2.5 hour outpatient procedure, and if you monitor your meds and stay off your foot it's not a pain. If you're on a flat area, I got around on a desk chair with wheels, no problem. My insurance company did cover the knee scooter, but didn't need it around the house. Good Luck and you are choosing the right Doctor for one of the most important parts of your body! The lady who runs the office named Joy does not listen to what the patient has to say on the phone. She is very inpatient , uncomfortable to do her job and wants to hang up as soon as possible. She does not want to deal with any insurance problems and the office ignores your request. the doctor is quiet personable and pleasant and listens to you. Four members of my family have seen this patient and kind doctor. He explains thoroughly what your problem is and how he can help. Unlike other doctors who pressure you to get treatment immediately, he does not. We've gone to him to remove bone spur from a toe (surgery), broken ankle bone, nail trimmings for a member of the family with diabetes, and orthotics. After seeing possibly the least helpful, most presumptive and dismissive podiatrist in the area, I asked a friend, a fellow nurse, if she had a recommendation--someone who was willing to understand somewhat unusual situations that led to foot problems. She referred me to her parents' podiatrist, Dr. Passeri, and I'm most happy she did. First of all, his office staff is cordial, most respectful, compassionate and most helpful. Paperwork for necessary medical leave is done on time. If a scheduling glitch occurs, it's fixed. Dr. Passeri is thorough, most respectful, and pleasantly professional. His explanations are complete, including a thorough review of X-Rays, options, procedures, healing process, follow up, post-procedure care (verbal and written) and he works quickly and follows all the proper pre-and post-procedural steps of care...unlike my previous DPM who shall remain nameless here. Nice to have my questions and concerns addressed with such a kind and professional attitude. There are no guarantees in medicine, but this provider gives me the best chance for a good outcome. I had hammer toe surgery on my 2nd toe and it did not work - I went to him for reconstructive surgery this was over a year ago and it did not work. I could tell something was wrong but when I asked questions he brushed me off like I was bothering him. I found his bedside manner undesirable. Now my toe is worse - maybe it was not his fault but he could have acted more concerned. I never went back to him. I say this with confidence because I am a long-standing patient and received exceptional care for various challenges over the years (i.e., DVT syndrome, bone spurs, broken toe, etc.) With complete confidence, I attest to Dr. Passeri's exceptional skills. I came to Dr. Passeri when I had an incredibly painful ingrown toenail on my big toe. He could tell right away that he would have to do a partial nail plate avulsion (where they cut out a part of your nail and make sure it doesn't grow back so the ingrown toenail doesn't come right back). I'm not going to lie and tell you it was painless, but he was a true professional, made sure I was as comfortable as possible, and even joked with me to calm my nerves.
