I have not seen him for over 15 years but must say He is probably the honest and most experienced surgeon. I hurt my ankle in skiing and became limping in walking. I saw at least 10 doctors specialized in sports medicine, including a few from Stanford and for famous athletes. All had the same solution, bone crafting. I finally decided on one surgeon and asked him if he would recommend a doctor to consult one more last time. He recommended Dr. Oloff and was confident that Dr. Oloff would recommend the same procedure. After reviewing the X films, believe it or not, he said only one sentence; there was no way to fix my ankle to perfect even with bone crafting. I asked what he would do, "I could remove the symptom (limping) to let you walk normally but the injured bone is there forever". With an advanced degree in engineering, I listened to his very brief explanation but was fully convinced from a physics perspective. He performed a microscopic surgery on my ankle and even handed me a video of his operation. Avoided two big cuts, no more limping for the last 25 years, but certainly I wouldn't be able to race 400- or 800 meters again. Still hiking, ball playing for a limited time. I went back to see him again about 10 years after the surgery because of occasional pain. After looking at the X films, he said "I have a $100 solution and a $10k solution". He explained both and I chose the $100 solution. I spent less than $10 and overcome the pain. Being a surgeon, he did not promote surgery every time. I since referred a few to him, he did no surgery on all of them. He even knows which pharmacist to make a special formula cream to treat a bone pain (my wife gets full recovery with an Oloff cream on her dancing feet). I think it would be a huge loss if he is not sought to be a professor at a medical school. Busy with his schedule, he doesn't say too much but all his patients, please listen to him carefully, he is definitely a unique and amazing surgeon in the universe.

After it happened to me, I spoke with the Office Manager about this, and she confirmed that it is standard practice to provide the emergency contact number when trying to resolve a billing issue. A collection agency got involved in collecting a nominal amount of money, ~$45 which I had overlooked. Serramonte Podiatry provided the company both my phone number and the emergency contact number. This was confirmed by both parties. The collection company attempted to contact me a few times, and each time when I answered the call there was a recording prompting me to press "9" to speak with an agent. Each time I did press "9" and the call was disconnected by the company before an agent ever came on the line. It was the holidays, I was with my family, I didn't take time out to try to sort out who was calling me and why. Granted I should have taken a more active role in resolving this issue. However, it seems wildly inappropriate and a break in trust to provide an emergency contact number for a billing issue. A billing issue is not an emergency. When I spoke to the Office Manager, she also confirmed that when providing the emergency contact to Serramonte Podiatry on their form, it is not disclosed that this person will be contacted for non-emergencies, such as billing issues. The care I received at Serramonte Podiatry was satisfactory, however when it comes to privacy at a medical facility a break in trust is inexcusable. I do hope that Serramonte Podiatry will reconsider this policy, as the Office Manager said they would.

Yelp, you suck. I can't delete and amend a review so here's the last one…read more On March 16 2023, Nic Gay replaced my left knee.   I had paid in full 2 weeks prior to surgery and was promised a robotics assisted total knee replacement.   On April 3rd 2023, at my first post op appointment, I found out that he'd switched surgery plans on me without my consent or knowledge while I was already under total anesthesia.   He opted to do it manually without robotics assistance.   I decided to trust him. For 10 months I worked my tail off in PT, I did everything I could and then some to heal properly and strengthen myself.   But by December 2023, it became clear that the knee had failed: Increasing pain, decreasing mobility, swelling galore and absolutely zero stability:  The knee clicks backwards all the time, clicks sideways, zero strength, I cannot trust my left leg.   So in January 2024, I went back to SVO, hoping to schedule a revision.   I forgot to mention that I'm a self pay patient, payment was provided in full for the surgery and all the tests required.   The surgery was just under 15K. Nic Gay acted a bit strange when I saw him that day.  He agreed that I needed a revision so he could change the spacer to a thicker one.   And that's when things really got weird: He told me that his office would call me shortly with a quote for the spacer (still not sure if it was just for the spacer and additional coasts would be added or if it was for the full surgery) but I wasn't to worried because even though I'd lost my home a few months prior, and I am now living in my motorhome,I had also found a buyer for my car, so I figured I had paid just under 15K for the initial surgery, surely a revision wouldn't be that bad.   Boy, was I wrong: His office called me to give me a quote of...  24K FOR A REVISION OF HIS OWN MISTAKE AFTER SWITCHING SURGERY PLANS ON ME WITHOUT MY CONSENT OR KNOWLEDGE, WHILE I WAS UNDER TOTAL ANESTHESIA.   So naturally I had questions about that and I wanted to discuss it further with Nic Gay (I cannot bring myself to use his title, not after what he did to me)  He never took my calls.   His staff was instructed to immediately put me on old without hearing me out, all my calls to his extension went unanswered, all my calls to the general office were immediately forwarded to god knows where, not once during that time in January did I get to talk to anyone, not even to ask for my records.   So, living on wheels, trying to save money, I spent a lot of time in my RV in the middle of nowhere, I decided to focus on my knee, kept working on my PT, tried to cover everything from mobility to strength to stability, to no avail.   The knee is a total failure.   So fast forward to now, I'm stuck in the Midwest (cheap RV spots) there have been tornadoes and the roads are bad so I'm still there.   I called a different surgical outfit to explain that I need a revision and they told me that because of their policy, I'm the one who has to secure my medical records pertaining to the surgery.   So I called SVO.   4 times in 2 days.   Everytime I spoke to someone I got promised they'd send my records, nothing happened because apparently, it's Nic gay who has to approve the release.   And Nic Gay happens to be feeling cruel and sadistic, towards me, apparently.   But then, breakthrough: I just called (5th time's the charm, I guess) and spoke to an absolute gem, Brenda.   Brenda gets shit done, pure and simple.   My guess is she's the true brains behind Nic Gay.   I just got my records emailed, Brenda, thank you again for this.   As for Nic Gay...   My advice is to avoid this smooth liar like the plague: if you agree to a specific surgery/technique, and you let him put you under total anesthesia, you have no idea what you'll wake up with, I learned that the hard way.   I hear he's leaving in a few months, all I can say is SVO will benefit from his departure, but I'm still not going back there, I value my quality of life, shabby as it currently is, thanks to his "treatment", and I look forward to a real medical professional to right the wrong that Nic Gay did me.   Again, this is now possible thanks to Brenda.   SVO, if you have any brains, give that woman a raise, she's the true asset in this place.   All my love to Brenda.

I didn't think that was true until my horrible experience with Dr. Gay. I came in, told him my shoulder was in pain, I wasn't sure why, but I was in so much pain it was interfering with everything in my life and I couldn't even sleep. We did an x-ray, he said he couldn't tell much from it and needed to do an MRI. I said okay, and he sent me to the front to get it scheduled AND THAT WAS IT. Come time for MRI, NO ONE HAD TOLD ME that it would entail needing to lie still on my back for nearly an hour. I'm young, I've never had an MRI, how the heck would I know that? Had they told me, I would have politely reminded them "remember the part where I said I can't sleep? I literally mean I CAN'T SLEEP." I tried to go through with the MRI, but I was in so much pain I was involuntarily crying from the pain (because they also have to put your arm in a position that further amplified my pain). The technician took me out after about 20 minutes of TORTURE and I met again with Dr. Gay who didn't even apologize to not taking me seriously. He said he would give me a cortisone shot, painkillers, and hopefully then I'd be more comfortable to come back and get the MRI. I asked him why he didn't give me this during my first visit and he said "I didn't think it was this serious." ...so when I said I was in pain....that wasn't serious? At this point, I've lost it. It was human of me, I hadn't slept in WEEKS, and I was in MASSIVE pain. I said I can't believe I'm being charged for this when the doctor has clearly messed up. They said they wouldn't charge me for 2 MRIs but I still have to pay ~$300 for a "doctor visit" that entailed a doctor not taking me seriously and doing nothing for me that he could have easily done had he just actually taken the time to BELIEVE MY PAIN? Man, and the look on his face when my MRI results came back. It turned out my muscle had torn, fluid had come in and formed a cyst that was pressing on a nerve and that's why, even on painkillers, I was in SO MUCH PAIN. It needed surgery to be fixed and you can bet I didn't get my surgery done by this sexist poor excuse of a doctor. I took my MRI results to another doctor, who looked at it and said this was an enormous cysts and extremely unusual to see in someone as young as me. He said I must be in a lot of pain and asked how it happened. He was a doctor I finally felt comfortable enough saying - "I think it started when my ex boyfriend shoved me. My shoulder started to hurt then, but not nearly the way it hurts now months later. I'd only made the connection after the MRI results because now I see how it started as a tiny muscle tear pain and evolved into a cyst pressing on a nerve pain..." Imagine if Dr. Gay had been any sort of real doctor competent in hearing patients and managed to listen to me, give me painkillers and the steroid shot my first visit, and had made me feel comfortable enough to share that? If you're a woman, do yourself and do not come see this doctor. He will not take you seriously and is the epitome of what's wrong with how women end up getting treated in American healthcare. I hope he reads this and seriously re-evaluates just how awful he treated me and what malarkey it is to have charged me for that first visit. Because of him, even though I came to him in early January 2019, after experience pain the last week of December of 2018, it wasn't until March that I got surgery and was finally not in pain anymore.
