I have not seen him for over 15 years but must say He is probably the honest and most experienced surgeon. I hurt my ankle in skiing and became limping in walking. I saw at least 10 doctors specialized in sports medicine, including a few from Stanford and for famous athletes. All had the same solution, bone crafting. I finally decided on one surgeon and asked him if he would recommend a doctor to consult one more last time. He recommended Dr. Oloff and was confident that Dr. Oloff would recommend the same procedure. After reviewing the X films, believe it or not, he said only one sentence; there was no way to fix my ankle to perfect even with bone crafting. I asked what he would do, "I could remove the symptom (limping) to let you walk normally but the injured bone is there forever". With an advanced degree in engineering, I listened to his very brief explanation but was fully convinced from a physics perspective. He performed a microscopic surgery on my ankle and even handed me a video of his operation. Avoided two big cuts, no more limping for the last 25 years, but certainly I wouldn't be able to race 400- or 800 meters again. Still hiking, ball playing for a limited time. I went back to see him again about 10 years after the surgery because of occasional pain. After looking at the X films, he said "I have a $100 solution and a $10k solution". He explained both and I chose the $100 solution. I spent less than $10 and overcome the pain. Being a surgeon, he did not promote surgery every time. I since referred a few to him, he did no surgery on all of them. He even knows which pharmacist to make a special formula cream to treat a bone pain (my wife gets full recovery with an Oloff cream on her dancing feet). I think it would be a huge loss if he is not sought to be a professor at a medical school. Busy with his schedule, he doesn't say too much but all his patients, please listen to him carefully, he is definitely a unique and amazing surgeon in the universe.

Do not see Dr. Oloff for sesamoid injuries. He told me to take NSAIDs even though those can inhibit…read morebone healing. He didn't recommend I have my vitamin D level checked, and it turns out my level was low and this would inhibit bone healing. After diagnosing my sesamoid injury, he immediately launched into talking about removing one sesamoid, if that didn't work removing the other sesamoid, and then how removing both sesamoids could require fusing the big toe joint. When I said I would like to fully explore conservative care, all he could recommend was to wear a boot. I learned far more about conservative care from Dr. Richard Blake's online blog posts. Dr. Oloff is an example of a doctor who is racing between appointments and seems to be trying to get out the door soon after walking in. I highly recommend seeing a different podiatrist.

He took the time to get into the nitty gritty of my post Lapidus Bunionectomy journey and gave me a clear step-by-step path of how to proceed in my healing. He included detailed information on orthotics, healing practices to be more consistent with, a well-laid path for building up to running and suggested a CT scan to rule out any non-union at my incision site or any hardware issues that my X-rays or MRI might not have detected. He also took the time to thoughtfully and sensitively let me know I might not be the best candidate for custom orthotics. I ended the call feeling incredibly heard, honored and taken care of. I began laser treatment on my nails with him and as many of those treatments showed no improvement he performed total nail avulsion (ripped nails out). Now my nails are completely ruined for life. I spent almost $2k with him and every time I see my nails I fully regret the day I met him. I would have been much better off had I not done anything to my nails. Don't be lured with his marketing and web site. Do your own research. Laser treatment doesn't work for most people - save your money. And, certainly don't have anyone remove nails unless it is causing pain or other issues. At the of the day, be wary of fast-talking doctors. This doctor is more interested in his own fitness, podcasts and buying real estate (just ask him or do a search online first). I'm sure he does well with older ladies out there who need someone to talk to, but now my nails are 90% worse than when I started. He really is a doc on the run. Check out his "medical" credentials before you engage him.

While he monitored these issues over time, I often found him difficult to reach directly, both in person and by text. Much of the communication and test ordering was handled by his staff, sometimes without clear oversight. Because of inconsistent appointment availability, limited guidance on managing cholesterol and blood sugar, and a lack of direct follow-up, I ultimately decided to change my primary care provider. At one point, the wrong tests were ordered, and a cholesterol test I expected wasn't included, even though I had asked about it directly. When I brought this to his attention, it was attributed to staff error. If you prefer a provider who mainly follows your own suggestions, he may be a good fit. However, if you're looking for more hands-on expertise and direct involvement in your care, my experience suggests this may not be the best match.
