As I'm in this area often, I stop off on this stop on the 6 more then any other except probably Astor Place. When it comes to the station itself, it's pretty clean of garbage, the trains run on time and other then the scent of rotting fish on the uptown side (which either I'm getting used too or is disappearing), it's not too shabby. The 6 train itself from Brooklyn Bridge/City Hall in itself usually is pretty mellow, which is quite nice when heading out to dinner or shopping. Nevermind the fact that you're probably going to spend way too much money on goods you don't need to somehow validate your self worth (as we all tend to do in this area)...at least you're starting off somewhat on the right foot as subway stops go.

Old strip of paint peeling here and there from the railings as usual. Everything rusty and moldy clouding with dust all over the cracked cement ceiling. You don't even wanna look up to see any of that tbh. Cracks on the flooring + gaps should've been filled in between the walls. Just like the usual, it makes me feel like I'm back in the nineties. Everything looking torn + miserable + worn down. Don't be surprised of how most MTA subway stations look as gloomy on the outside as they do from the inside. Not every station is as new and modern looking as the Hudson Yards location. Sad but true. There's an OMNY machine standing in the corner against the wall. A dirty staircase on each side of the entrance/exit. Spring Street doesn't have the newly-installed turnstiles yet though. Hopefully they'll install those soon to make it look/feel less depressing.

It's also one of the only LIRR stations in NYC with a crossing, so don't be running rate if you're catching a train on the other side of the platform. Purchase your ticket ahead of time. There's no indoor waiting area and there's only one shelter, but the platforms rarely get crowded, so it only really matters if it's super cold outside. There's also a decent-sized parking lot with a cab service (wouldn't recommend the latter unless you're in a hurry or the Q36 isn't running). Speaking of that 36, it used to wait for the Queens-bound trains to arrive during the evening rush. Don't know if it still does. The surrounding area is safe, so there's no need to have anxiety taking a train here at night. There's really nothing around the station except a little deli where you can grab a quick sandwich or drink before you depart.

Be sure to leave enough time to buy tickets if you do not have any as the machines are located by the entrance of the parking lot which is on the East bound side.. there is one machine also located across on the west bound side. This station does at the most basic level. The entrance to the station has 2 machines which seems to manage the traffic well. However, there are no elevators/escalators so if you're travelling with a stroller or luggage the stairs can be brutal. Given the number of people that get on and off this stop, it's probably a solid candidate for an express stop some day. (#1) For the unfamiliar, the 46th Street stop is among the majority of stops that are above ground. For folks waiting at the station, it has some of the best views of the Manhattan skyline and unless there are stalled trains, it's never all that crowded. Another fun tidbit is that this is actually the last stop along Queens Blvd before the train turns onto Greenpoint Ave (#2) toward Woodside. Folks who want stay awhile will find that there are a number of eateries just outside of the station. It isn't the most exciting stop by any means and could probably use a facelift (#3). On weekends, there is often something going on at the street level side of the station. Just another reason why Sunnyside is worth checking out always. ____________ (#1) Who are we kidding? Flushing bound folks love that LIC to Woodside ride. If 74th Street - Jackson Heights can't have it, then neither can Sunnyside. Well not really but it is really cool because it's close to my favorite pizza in the whole of New York City, and it's a pretty safe station that gives you access to the overground train that cross is Queensboro Bridge. It's also close to Jackson Heights where some of the best food in the country is. Not to mention the halal cart open late right next to the stop. And that view.

It's a small, bare-bones station at the halfway point of the Port Washington line (that still, thankfully, lets you get off on any car). You won't see a great many people getting off and on, except during rush hour. If I could make a change, it would be to either make the glass shelter temperature-controlled like at some other stations, or extend the roof to the length of the entire platform. As it stands, because the tracks are elevated, you're going to feel the full brunt of the weather in the Summer and Winter. Minor inconveniences aside, this is still a decent station.
