I was scanning groceries, and my partner had to step out of line before i started scanning-they grabbed a small bag of barbecue chips. I started scanning out stuff, but as soon as my partner came back, she saw them, and immediately went over to us and started asking what we scanned and what we had grabbed. She did not do this while I was the only one scanning items. she started going through our stuff and saying it was scanned wrong. we have never been to this kind of grocery store before, and were not sure how the produce stuff worked. She also was doing the same thing to a black customer in the store next to us, she stopped him and counted all of his items to make sure he didn't take anything "extra", while ignoring every other customer who needed help. there were 3 or 4 other costumers she ignored and they were getting disgruntled, we also needed help, while she was still bothering one person. She ignored my partner when they even tried to call her over when we ACTUALLY needed assistance. We will not be returning to this location again. and please, if you are a person of color, STAY AWAY. The person doing this a muslim woman at the checkout. shame on her and the store. read more

This Giant (and all other Giants I've visited in Maryland so far) is the most over-priced store in the area. Everything is $2-3 more than other stores and they don't even proper organic produce. This review is for the bakery department - The cake decorator currently working there is the best. I showed her my inspiration picture and she was upfront with what can and cannot be done if we used whipped cream instead of buttercreme, told me the cost of adding fruits, and she showed me the colors they had and said she would do her best when I asked for certain pastel colors. The cake turned out amazing with pastel colors and roses just like my kid wanted and it tasted good too. As long as this cake decorator works here, I have found my new go to place for cakes. This half sheet cake cost $53.99 with fresh fruits and whipped cream instead of butter creme. read more

I really like this location. It is large, clean, and well organized. They have a good variety of specialty items as well, including a special health foods section. Customer Service desk was efficient and friendly for a large gift card purchase I needed to make. I also appreciate the information they had posted at the gift card kiosk/display to warn people about fraud and scam attempts. I haven't seen this at other stores and appreciate the effort to keep their community informed and safe. Always a pleasure shopping here :) read more

I have been shopping at this particular Giant Food, Kentlands, MD for eight years now. The store is clean, well stocked and has a wide variety of brands and products. All of the staff has been always courteous. However, their self check out registers have become terrible. Over the last year, they have made their register's scanners, and bagging areas calibration too sensitive causing an aggravating checkout to me and others around me. Ridiculous. read more

Any food store the carries 2 different brands of prepared horseradish for my extensive collection of gefilte fish I've been stocking up on for quarantine has my seal of approval. Not just that though, if you're looking for other Jewish friendly items they had a nice size pesadecah section with multiple types of matzah, macaroons, and a serious amount of Dr. Browns soda. For anyone who hasn't tried Dr. Browns Soda, it's a staple of Jewish Delis from Montpeilier Maine to Miami Florida. I came in to quickly check if they had any toilet paper or paper towels #CoronaVirusTimes and they were out. They had also taken a big hit to their meats section and a few other areas in the store. But overall, it seemed like a clean place. The employees were all wearing gloves, and I was in and out in a fairly painless fashion. Oh, one thing to mention, they do have antibacterial wipes for you to wipe down the cart. They are inside the door of the store though, probably would make sense to put them out by the carts so people don't have to push it into the store before they use the wipe. I just went into the store, got a wipe, went out, and cleaned the cart handle. This Giant is in the Kentlands, there's ample parking, and they have those little hand scanner things if you want to total up your bill before you get to the counter. read more

Evening grocery shopping is so serene and free of parents with screeching children, long lines, and stressful parking! The cashier was friendly, efficient, and reminded me to take a survey at the bottom of the receipt. Bag tax in Montgomery County. There's a Redbox kiosk inside and another one outside. read more

Pharmacy left me out to dry with critical meds. Meds I take were getting difficult to source. The staff Pharmacists worked with me to find alternates and inform me of future supply issues. Then I had to deal with new Manager. He said I could only get 1/2 month supply. He gave no advice except contact Doctor and change medications. He gave no support. Did not call other Giants to see if in stock. Did not call supplier to determine future availability. "Do you want the 1/2 mth supply or not?". He did nothing ! So, after 30 years, I have to find another pharmacy. Walgreens has it in stock. CVS has it in stock. Only this single Giant has no interest in keeping me as a customer. The Giant at Kentlands is generally very good. Right now this isn't the BEST time to go as they are renovating so it's a little confusing. There are a few items that are lacking. For instance, they do not have non-organic Pink varieties of apples and I love my Pink Lady apples. There are a few other snack items I like that they do not carry. A few items are priced higher than elsewhere (vitamins). On the other hand, a decent selection of vegetarian foods. A little better than the Harris Teeter I am used to. Oh and they sometimes carry those doggie waste bag packages that are so hard to find and much cheaper than Amazon. But the reason I'm writing the review is because the staff here are SUPER nice. If you are scared of COVID, they work REALLY hard to clean the registers. Also, they are super Friendly and always wish you a nice day or offer to help if you need it. read more

I need to acknowledge the exceptional service I received from a gentleman named Anthony on May 18! I was looking for a children's Tylenol product, and he stopped to help me locate it and then, when he saw that it was not shelf, went back to see if it was in the building. He then did an electronic check with the items that he was stocking the shelves with, and found that that particular product was in that order. If not for the dedication to Customerservice by Anthony, I would not have Been able to give the proper medication to a child I was shopping for. Big-time recognition for Anthony! read more

While a Giant Food's can be found all over the DMV, this particular one is a stand out because it contains some items that I can't seem to find at others. It's located in the middle of Kentlands shopping center, like any other grocery store in America would be located. The Kentlands themselves is a nicer, upscale area in the middle of Gaithersburg. Besides the great customer service, this Giant has CAVA items. This may mean nothing to you, but I'm crazy for Harissa and CAVA makes an amazing Harissa paste. This is almost starting to feel like a double review, and if that's how you take it, I'm okay with that! I just want you to be able to enjoy the finer things in life like me! Dairy to the right when walking in, frozen to the left. Carts are always plentiful and parking never seems to be too crazy here. Not the most competitive pricing, as I prefer one particular competitor, but again, the selection is great! read more

This is one of the worst grocery stores in this area. They are constantly out of stock on a number of items. Compared to other stores in the area their shelves are pretty empty. The produce is just terrible, I have never seen a store that has such ugly produce, empty bins of produce. I went to get a couple of rustic potatoes the other day 5hey had none, tried to get tomatoes the only one they had were all soft but they kept them out to try and sell. The store itself should be flushed and remodeled to look and work like Harris Teeter. The price compared to Target, HT and Safeway are high. They should be ashamed of this store, it they are not, just a bunch of money hungry people. read more

I have been going to this Giant for many years when I come down to MD for a visit every year. The Giant has improved so much in the past few years. I have to applaud how they have changed and how they organize everything. It is easier to find all items that I have looked and shop quicker. I love the fact that they now have scanner "gun" thing that you can scan every item then go to a checkout site to check out and pay quick. It is fabulous because it makes easier and pay quick to save time for waiting in the line to pay these food. I hope that other grocery stores will follow Giant's methods to save time with waiting in the line. The reason why I give 4 stars because the parking lot is somewhat crazy since few people do not care that could cause a minor accident and people who have the rights to walk across from parking lot to the store... people in the car either will stop or ignore the law to go straight that can hurt other people as well. Clean store and great staff. One of the things that I love is that about this location is the variety of meats that are available. I have purchased bison, wild boar, and lamb. I have even seen rabbit at this location. Best time for these finds is on a Saturday. Worth a visit on a crowded Saturday! Go explore! read more

Tonight my girls were out, so I asked them to bring me my favorite pie. A cherry pie. When they arrived home it wasn't a whole pie it was half a pie for $3.32. The pie crust was so flaky that it had fallen apart after being placed in the shopping bag. When I took a piece of the pie, I was surprised at how awful it looked on the inside. It was if someone put cherry apple sauce in the pie that was the consistency of it. I looked for the cherries, but I could find any because it was so mushy! I use to think that Giant has the best quality in foods, but tonight they failed to convivence me that they still represented Quality! Now, I realize why I don't shop at Giant, for the prices they charge they should make sure that all of their food represent the high prices they charge. Poor Customer Service. read more

Ugh. I'm not sure what it is about this Giant that makes it so much worse than all the other ones I've ever gone to. I'm usually not picky about grocery stores/drugstores, it is what it is and I get in and get out. A couple weeks ago, I stopped in to fill two prescriptions. Since it was my first time filling a prescription there, standard operating procedure...20 minutes later, they tell me there's a problem with 1 prescription. Fine. Another 20 minutes later, they ring me up for the second one, and I realize they charged me for the name brand and not generic as I specifically requested..the head pharmacist then tells me that the prescription I wanted doesn't come in generic. Yes it does, I'm using it right now. End up waiting around for another 20 minutes while they figure it out and finally walk out, happy that the ordeal is over and vowing never to return. This I can deal with. HOWEVER....since then I have received not one, not two, but THREE calls from this pharmacy, leaving me voicemails that my prescription is ready for pickup. What the eff? Giant pharmacy, please get your stuff together. Also, on two separate occasions, I've attempted to check out at the self check out registers with an item that wasn't in the system..why are these items stocked if I can't purchase them? I mean, it was probably for my own good, since the items in question were packs of ramen and a tub of gelato that I probablyyyy shouldn't eat anyways. Uh. Actually, +1 star for that, Giant. Thanks for keeping me on my diet (sort of). EDIT -- came back to fill another prescription (oh god why) and came back 2 days later to pick it up, only to be told upon giving my name that my prescription had been "sent back a long time ago". I told them that I had just dropped it off 2 days ago...he asks me what my prescription was for. Isn't this an invasion of privacy or something? Not that I mind, but there was a line of people behind me, and I can definitely see how other people may feel uncomfortable being asked to state their prescription out loud. Worst pharmacy I've ever gone to, by far. I'd give this place negative stars if I could. EDIT #2 -- Okay, this really is the last straw. I walked over from my apartment right next door (the ONLY REASON why I still come here) trying to fill a prescription. After waiting for over an hour (when I was originally told it would be 25-30 minutes) they told me that they were out of the prescription I needed and would have to order it for tomorrow - I cannot even express how annoyed I am right now. They could have told me an HOUR ago that they were out and I would have gone to a different pharmacy, what an incredible waste of time. read more

Love the newly renovated Giant. I even received a new card from the store. The new store has the electronic handheld scanner to speed up your shopping experience. I find that selection for ingredients has improved a great deal. I got a delicious leg of lamb from this store, the nice butcher helped me save a 6lb leg exactly what I asked for!! Even though this is definitely not the closest grocery store to me...well, I actually have to pass like 6 grocery stores to get to this one, I consider it "my grocery store." It's not a gross dump like so many of the local stores, and has a very decent organic and gluten-free selection. They remodeled it maybe 2 years ago, and it is pretty nice, bright, and clean. For good to-go food, a good bakery, and good butcher, head over to Whole Foods, but this Giant serves the purpose for packaged foods and your general, everyday needs. read more

They have very nice staff here. I was greeted by some manager person I think. (He had a different Giant shirt on). Perhaps because I just looked confused but he was nice and asked if I needed any help finding anything. I like that they have a self price check scanner so I can double check prices of things I'm not sure on. +1 for them :) One thing that bugged me during this recent visit was that they moved their bread section to aisle 28 after the renovation. Yes, 28... it is at the back of the store. It used to be in the middle section by the bakery and deli... I just wanted a thing of bread and I walked up and down the aisles and could not find bread! WTH! I thought to myself... do they not carry bread anymore? It blew my mind. I had to ask the lady who was stocking up cookies by the bakery where is the bread?? Aisle 28 she said. I turned to look for 28.. at the very end of the store... o_O seriously? Okay. Thanks ma'am. All in all, I still love my Giant :) Grocery shopping is fun! read more

BUYER BEWARE !!!!! This star deserves ZERO stars but I can't post if I don't put at least one star. Worst grocery store ever. Save your money and go to Trader Joe's or Costco which are both about 5 to minutes away from this Giant. Yesterday all fruits and vegetables were soft, mushy & just bad. I spoke to the manager about it and she said they were fine and that's how she eats her vegetables. I'm a vegetarian and if you love fruits and vegetables as I do you will be disappointed by the poor quality of fruits and vegetables at this Giant. With the quality being so poor you would think the price would be reduced. Well it's not as a matter of fact everything is overly priced. Trader Joe's and Costco is cheaper by far and you get a much better quality of produce than you ever will at this particular Giant. read more

I have to bump it up. Why can't this giant be like my giant? It is large, has a nice selection of basic groceries and a lovely selection of organic products. Usually I would need to haul ass over to TJs to get any Desert Essence products, but they have a nice shelf of it in the beauty section. Although they are not as good in the organic section as TJ or Whole Paycheck, I appreciate the effort in adding more variety to their choices. Also, as a present for touring the new store, with 5 stamps I received a free grocery bag. The more I visit, the better the experience! BUT your food to go is still shit, sorry! read more

Definitely a fan of this Giant, overall. Their hours are great, especially for the Kentlands, although I would vote for a 24-hour Giant. I walk here often with kid or kids and it is handy to use the self scanners and pack your own groceries in your bags and tuck away in the stroller as you go. The prepared foods are fairly decent, as is the Bakery, and I can always find the cheeses I need (Plain Havarti or with dill, or Fontina, for example, that WF does not carry). Good selections of Yogurt, which is key, although they do not carry Stoneyfield Probiotics or YoBaby (only YoKids for some reason). The produce is usually really good, although it has been questionable lately, which is frustrating. They do NOT have a good selection of organic produce, but I am at WF anyway, and have resigned myself to the fact that I will always have to make two stops. They also have a salad bar that is pretty decent, but the best part is the beef chili, which has chunks of beef (not ground!), and savory, sweet with a nice kick. I like to add cheese and onion to it from the adjacent salad bar! The worst part about this Giant is a toss up between the terrible pharmacy and the practically non existent seafood section. I totally agree with Tiffany L about her experience because my husband has gone through that enough times. read more

This store is very busy at times, however they keep things rolling because they always have plenty of staff to accommodate who are knowledgeable and polite , and very nice people to help with all my needs. The pharmacy is always polite and helpful with questions and explaining things. I have been coming here for a long time and compared to the other types of stores around the area they are the best overall! read more

If I could give zero I would. The counter help at the deli is awful. Yesterday I was standing patiently watching who was ahead of me. When it was my turn the idiot behind the counter asked what number I had. I said I had no number, He then stood there and stared at me for 60 seconds. I asked if he was going to wait on me or what? He still stood their like a total fool. I loudly said F.,k it Nd walked away. I put everything in My basket back and asked out never to return. I love my Giant and their staff but I am more than a little annoyed with the poor maintenance of the scan gun display. The scan gun is the primary reason I shop at Giant. I could certainly spend less by shopping elsewhere, but those handy guns save me time...when they work. Sadly, it's become a constant battle to get my phone number typed into the machine correctly and several times the display board won't release the gun. Once I manage to get a working scanner I am constantly frustrated by the poorly maintained scales I must use the weigh produce. Come on Giant...get it together. The scanners are a terrific idea but they must be maintained better. read more

Giant Food is the worst don't shop there. Their sales are bad and they never have anything, also they don't give gas rewards on gift cards. Too bad Safeway is no longer partnering with Exxon I may have to drive 11 miles to get gas but it would be a lot better than dealing with Giant. read more

Nice store. Kept clean and very organized. Prices are a bit up there, but bring your coupons and you should find some good deals. Nice selection of cakes, meats and cheese. Has a curb side drive up, to protect you and your groceries from the rain- which is perfect if you have little ones you dont wanna march into the parking lot. read more

Clean, well managed ... and the prices are great when I use my Giant PSP card. Busiest of the 3 local Giants. Probably the best selection, but I don't enjoy the lines. Parking lot, store isles, cashiers, all long lines. Somewhat friendly staff. And always some beggars trying to get your change or canned foods on the way out. I don't know why they let so many questionable people set up their tables and pan handle. read more

I switched from the Darnestown CVS pharmacy to the Kentlands Giant pharmacy due to high prices at CVS and medications not being ready when they should be. I had no issues with the first 3 or 4 prescriptions at Giant. The most recent is a different story. Last week my doctor called in a refill. After a couple of days I went by to get it and was told it would be ready in 15 minutes. After that time had elapsed they then told me my insurance wouldn't pay for it which I know and which I pay for myself. They then told me they were out of stock, more would be in on Tuesday. However the Sunday before, we got a call that the prescription was ready. When I got there they looked all over then told me it would be ready after 4 pm Tuesday. After all this I am not holding my breath. read more
