The food court inside Great Wall Supermarket used to be one of the best hidden gems in town. Every…read morestall had something special, steaming baskets of dim sum, sizzling stir-fries, rich noodle soups, fresh BBQ pork, and perfectly crisp scallion pancakes. It was the kind of place where you could wander with a tray, try a little of everything, and always leave happy (and full). Beyond the food, it had an atmosphere you don't find often anymore: a casual bustle, families sharing dishes, shoppers taking a break from the aisles, everyone drawn together by the smells and flavors. That's why it was such a loss when the owner closed it down. The whole community misses the variety, the warmth, and the incredible value the food court offered. It wasn't just a spot to grab a bite, it was part of our weekend routine, a place to bring visiting friends, a taste of home for many. Thank you to everyone who ran the food court for all those years. Your hard work and hospitality made Great Wall more than a supermarket; you made it a gathering place. You're dearly missed!

The supermarket is super clean and sells every and anything one can think of including exotic (to…read moreme) foods from black chicken to dried mushrooms to geoducks! Other fresh seafood included lobster, reasonable prices stone crab ($3.99 a pound is the same as t home in Newport, RI), Dungeness crab, lobster, and - to my surprise - a tank full of fresh frogs which I wives witnessed the demise of (well, four anyway)! The workers in the seafood department were on their a-game! A beautiful store that I will come back to for sure.

Dropped by to get some Asian groceries at this Korean grocery store. Some things had changed since…read moreour last visit. Aisles of items had moved, certain products were no longer available, but other things were on sale. Got some Korean and Indian snacks, produce, pre-made Korean food and other necessary items. Had a good shopping experience at this store. Checkout and service were quick and efficient.

I had a genuinely upsetting experience at the Lotte Plaza in Gaithersburg today, and it was…read moreentirely due to how the situation was handled by the staff. We picked up several kimbap at full price and continued shopping inside the store. A few minutes later, when we returned to the same section to get more, all of the kimbap had suddenly been marked 50% off. We never left the store, and the items we were holding were exactly the same as the ones now labeled on sale. Because of that, we went to customer service to ask if the sale price could be applied. While we were speaking with the customer service associate, another woman sitting nearby abruptly inserted herself into the conversation and said she was the kitchen manager and that she had personally decided to mark the items down. Then, within earshot of us, she said, "So people carry items around and then ask for a discount once they see the sale price." The implication was extremely unpleasant, and it made us feel as if we were being treated as unreasonable or dishonest customers. What made this even more frustrating was that both employees were already aware of why we came to customer service, yet chose to respond with a dismissive and condescending attitude instead of explaining the policy clearly and respectfully. We were told that because we picked up the items before the sale stickers were placed, we would have to pay full price. In the end, we chose not to purchase the kimbap at all, at either price. Realistically, the full priced kimbap we put back would have had to be marked down anyway, since identical items sitting next to sale priced ones are unlikely to sell at full price. This made the rigid stance feel unnecessary on top of being poorly handled. Policies are one thing. Publicly speaking about customers in a mocking or judgmental way is another. We left feeling genuinely disrespected, and it completely overshadowed what should have been a simple shopping experience. Customer service should involve basic courtesy and professionalism. Unfortunately, that was lacking here.

Some were good, others were just okay. Here is what I got: CHINESE BROCCOLI - some were long, and others seemed like they were already cut short. I don't know if that is how it is normally sold. Goya PLANTAIN CHIPS - the chips were light overall, but slightly salty. I still enjoyed it. 80% COCONUT WATER WITH PULP - I enjoyed this, but I am not sure I would get it again. I couldn't find a brand on the can and some of the wording said to chill before drinking, but yet it was stocked on a shelf. I may just stick to a brand I know, next time. I also got another juice - Mogu Mogu LYCHEE JUICE with bits of the fruit in the drink, but found that the lychee bits were going down my throat quicker than I had a chance to eat them (not sure I'll get that again even though I enjoyed the drink). BUTTER CREAM BREAD - even though I liked this, it was not as soft. I got one or two other items, but I'll probably get them elsewhere next time due to the high price. Overall, I saw so many flavors and varieties of things. The place stayed busy. I would probably go back again, but with the same friend, and maybe pay more attention to details. It was my first time going to this type of store.

Seafood section smelled fishy (compared to 99 Ranch and Whole Foods). The upside is they stock fresh kumquat, that's a rare find. The prepared food section: They have only one pot of tofu stew believe it or not (it's the mainstay of Korean food). The place just looked sad and not well stocked. Not many snack options either.
