The only reason I'm giving them one star is Amazon locker and return bin and the bakery is pretty good for the one time of year I need a baked item. Everything else is garbage. Prices are high, customer service non existent and most importantly, the checkout process. How can you mess this up when every other store in America does it right. First of all, half the self checkout kiosks are never open. Secondly, WHY DO I HAVE TO ENTER A LOYALTY CARD FOR EVERY TRANSACTION???!!! So moronic. Then after I get over that and remember why I hate the place, you enter your phone number (like every normal place) AND IT REQUIRES you enter the first three letters of your last name. Once I've cursed my way thru that when you apply you touch to pay or insert your card their POS PoS system can't figure out your method of payment and you have to tell it how you are paying!!! I remember shopping at this location when it was a regular Giant Eagle store, but renovations and remodeling converted into one of their Market District stores and they call it the Market District Upper Arlington despite having another Market District store at Kingsdale Shopping Center in Upper Arlington. I will be going back to this Market District in Upper Arlington, but close to Dublin and they have their own Market District too. read more

We live close enough to shop at Giant Eagle, Whole Foods, Meijers, and Krogers. For canned goods etc. I shop at Meijers as they have the best prices. For fish and more upscale items I shop at Giant Eagle, and for specialty items no one beats Whole Foods if you can swing their prices. I used to shop often at Krogers, but their one store put in a round about, which I loathe, and the other is farther away. Thus, unless I go to the library with a large Krogers close I seldom shop there anymore. Their prices and products are a happy medium in price and selection between Meijers and Giants Eagle. read more

I have to say I don't typically shop here, but I got some very dis tastful zucchini last week from Walmart, and so I wanted to see what I could find here. The floors were clean and isles easy to navigate. I was blown away first their produce is amazing, size, color, flavor, and so good. The customer service was amazing, and it was so easy to find what I was looking for . The best part was that the prices were fantastic, which I didn't think they would be. This GE down the inlined parking lot from Sawmill and Bethel is one sharp store. Well designed, spacey, neatly arranged it is a breeze to walk through; the smell of tasty spices seem to encase the store. Set up nicely, the well stocked produced, the sleek wide health section, and the artistically paneled pharmacy are cosmopolitan and striking. This isn't your grandfathers grocery. But it's expensive. That's why I haven't shopped Giant Eagle much. I may, in a blue moon, stop in at a giant Market Place, the behemoth in UA or 3rd Avenue, to spy what they may have special for impulse. But for a weekly fridge fill--no. Until I saw their deal on meat. They have these single meal cuts of meat, more or less a pounds worth. Enough for a single guys nightly supper. They sell them five fir $19.99. Beef, chicken, pork, big packs of all meat hotdogs, ect. Comes in different cuts to--slices for Fajitas, squares for soups, breasts, strips, hamburgers, shish kabob, chops diced this or that. I am not saying it is the greatest cut meats of all time or gourmet or anything you can get elsewhere. But for the price it is pretty good. This location has a Starbucks and everything else a supermarket GE has. Lots of 'ring yourself up tech' is kinda annoying but there are people to help. Get a card and save on gas of percentage off with fuel points. read more

Giant Eagle - Beer display - Grocery Near Me - Columbus, Ohio

I have been a loyal customer of Giant Eagle since opening stores in Central Ohio 20 years ago. The location at the intersection of Bethel Rd and Sawmill Rd (Upper Arlington Store) has been my preferred grocery store location for two decades until recent months. The thing that has turned me off the most about all Giant Eagle locations is the idiotic decision made by corporate to have two different loyalty programs that customers must choose between. I continue to be a FuelPerks member and therefore I am denied the sale prices that only MyPerks members get. The same loyalty card is scanned regardless which loyalty program you select, but my loyalty obviously doesn't mean a thing to Giant Eagle. One of my included photos shows that MyPerks members get blackberries for $4.99, but FuelPerks members have to pay $5.99. Numerous items I was looking for today were a dollar or more less than what I would have to pay, so I did the only logical thing that came to mind. I left my cart of items sitting in the aisle, walked to my car, and drove to Kroger. Screwing loyal customers, like me, is not a wise move - especially in this economy. The prices at Giant Eagle are higher than every grocery I have frequented except Whole Foods. This GE location is under MAJOR renovation, everything has moved within the store, so it is difficult to find things. When you do find what you are looking for, pay very close attention to the shelf tag too because I encountered numerous items stocked in the wrong spot and the shelf sticker doesn't match. My photo of Tostitos is a good example. The Tostitos Scoops in the photo are NOT part of the promotion shown on the shelf tag. The shelf tag is for Tostitos Restaurant Style, so I'm sure many customers have encountered that Scoops are $5.59 per bag no matter how many you purchase. To top it off, Giant Eagle locations are converting to predominantly self-checkouts. That fine for 1 or 2 items, but not for large orders. read more

I visited this Giant Eagle location on a Thursday evening around 8 pm. After a certain time this location only keeps one entrance open. (the one in the middle of the building). There is no signage telling customers which doors are open so when I first arrived, some other customers and I walked up to an entrance that was closed and didn't realize until we got in front of the automatic doors and they didn't open. They've recently widened the aisles of the store and now there is a lot of space for three carts to all go by each other parallel with no issues. They have a decent selection of items however, this location is not as large as some of the Giant Eagles in the surrounding area. Overall, the store is generally clean with the exception that the meat counter can often heavily smell of cleaning chemicals and agents after they've closed for the counter for the day. read more

I try to avoid this location whenever I can. Now only is the parking lot the absolute worst because it's super small and it's difficult to get in and out of, but people just typically walk out to the parking lot and give two shits. The set up is pretty OK it's a really large location which I like. However he doesn't have the salad bar. It's generally really clean but I literally cannot find a single thing I'm looking for ever! I mean ever! I spent so much time in this location looking for things that ridiculous. Things are in the worst possible locations and they seem to not make any sense at all. No one ever asked me if I need help and it seems like there's no one ever around to ask. Liquor store has a really good selection which is why usually go to this location. However, the produce is overpriced as is the same with other things in there. There's always a line and if you decide to use self check out the machines are always breaking down. It's the most frustrating experience. The restaurant seems to always be out of tissue when I use it. And is generally just not as clean as I'd hoped. I only come here if I absolutely had to and I was getting a few items. However I came here to grab things for taco salad and was in here for like an hour. So even then I'd rethink it read more

This is one of the largest locations I've been to without it including all the dining options of a Market Place inside. The pharmacy is located on one end and a Starbucks is located on the other end. I honestly can't say there is any one area this location excels over the other ones. I haven't noticed if there is a larger selection of frozen items, organic items, meats, etc. I've only stopped there after work and like a lot of grocery stores it seems busy during the 6-7pm hour but other times the wait isn't long. read more

This used to be the closest grocery store to me, and yet I would go up the road to Meijer. Why? Prices, and parking. The store itself is a pretty typical GE, with a good selection and decent service. Prices, as with GE in general, tend to be high. Yes, the card offsets that, and you get discounts if you buy gas, yada yada. But if you don't go often you don't get the full advantage of those, and even when I was shopping at GE a lot the overall cost was a bit higher than other places. Well, back when you got super double coupons and I was getting prescriptions there (and thus free gas,) then it was cheaper, but they've closed up some of those programs because people like me were getting too much for free... Anyway, this store is decent enough. But the location is horrible. I think they just bought a lot that is too small. Parking is crazy- spaces are narrow, aisles are narrow, road access is awful. Decided to try out the curbside pick up with the COVID 19 precautions in full effect; Nothing short of amazing. The whole team was great, start to finish. The earliest time was 3 days out which is understandable. They checked in with me about an hour before my pick up time and went over the whole grocery list. Things they are out of, they recommend substitutes and if you don't want them they just take it off your order! So easy! I only had 3 of those, and that's just because my cats are very picky. The team member who checked me in was attentive and courteous, and about 5 minutes late another team member brought out my order and loaded up my car! Upper Arlington never disappoints in that the people always disappoint. They are rude and not helpful. I drove over 1/2 hour to the liquor department specifically because they were listed as carrying a particular mixer. I looked around and then asked Judy in the liquor department. Not only was she rude, she told me that cherry juice could not be used in a mule. When I informed her I was in fact making a cherry mule, she actually huffed and said it was only for Manhattans. You know what? This place is expensive, but I still don't care. This Giant Eagle has everything I need, has a good variety, has a cheese shop, and a fancy wine area. When I go to other grocery stores in the area I can never get nice ingredients or a decent variety--I always do at Giant Eagle. Lot's of people complain about the prices but if you are clever it's no big deal. Use your rewards card and make sure to refill with your gas perks and it all balances out in the long run. They recently added a liquor store so all my daily nutritional needs can now be met, and I can go buy food too if I nessecary. read more

Could it be? Have I been converted? Out of all the Giant Eagle's in central Ohio.. this location tops in at numero dos on my list. In the past I have had nothing, but terrible experiences with Giant Eagle from bad product placement, store smelliness, and the extra high prices people force themselves to pay to compensate for their gas perks. I probably will never do all of my weekly grocery shopping at Giant Eagle... my heart still stands with the smaller cheaper markets. However this location has others beat. Their salad and hot bars here are not too shabby. There was pretty much everything I needed to make a great tasting salad, and if I needed anything else to go with it like soups, or ....fried chicken... or chicken and dumplings.. then they had that as well. Not to mention they also have the counters where you can have subs and sandwiches made, or pick from other pre-made items. The old cashier lady was salty and reminded me of an elementary school lunch lady, so I couldn't help, but get a laugh out of it. She sure cheered up when regulars stopped in. Perhaps that salty cashier and I will be on better terms. I can definitely see myself stopping here for lunch more often. Plus that side Starbucks entrance? Totally awesome. Thank-you for not forcing me to contend with angry-couponing-Soccer Mom's pushing their shopping cart death machines out the main doors. The meat department alone is reason to do your grocery shopping at Giant Eagle. We were preparing a less than usual German dish called "Beef Rouladen." It's made with rolled-up pieces of sirloin, enclosing a filling of bacon, onions, dill pickles, and mustard. The key item to the success of this dish is the cut of meat. Very few meat departments have meat cut for this use, and very few know how to cut it. But at the Sawmill Giant Eagle, Hartman Johnson, got the meat cut just perfectly to roll up the filling and pin it shut with toothpicks. We are so impressed with the Giant Eagle meat department (and Mr. Johnson) that we will do much more or all of our shopping at Giant Eagle. You can't beat customer service like this! read more

I've been a fan of Giant Eagle since I lived in Pittsburgh, where they are ubiquitous. C-Bus is pretty thick with Big Birds as well. This location is closest to my home and is the one I visit most frequently. It's a little less busy now that there's a Giant Eagle Marketplace on Tremont, but that only makes shopping here more convenient as there is very little crowding anymore and the store is comprehensive enough to have all the day to day necessities covered. The pharmacy staff at this Giant Eagle deserve special recognition. They are very friendly and knowledgable. The one pharmacy guy, Bill, seems to know everyone. It's as though they built the store around him. The newer liquor store and refinished wine areas are a nice perk, too. Speaking of perks, the Fuel Perks are nothing new but are awesome to have. If you do any significant amount of shopping online (like on Amazon, for example), you can really rack up Fuel Perks really quickly. We haven't paid full price for gas in years. read more

Soooo I've been shopping at this Giant Eagle on a weekly basis since last summer.... Yeah I don't know how I missed reviewing it either. At any rate, I really do enjoy Giant Eagle. Previously, I did most of my grocery shopping at Kroger. While I do still pop into Kroger from time to time, I do find that I like the selection and prices at Giant Eagle more overall. Also, the fuel perks you get at Giant Eagle are probably the best I've ever encountered for a store. If I have any complaints at all, I would say that I wish they would get rid of the trees in the parking lot (mostly because they take up space in an already congested area), and I wish there were cart corrals in each aisle of the parking lot. read more

I do love Giant Eagle, as well as the gas perks. Really like the meat department. Always receive a good quality cut and fairly tasty. The better half enjoys the beer department, much larger selection than what you would find at Meijer or Whole Foods. Wide variety of general groceries, and the pricing is very economic. My downs? The produce department is not well tended and frequently there is rotten produce in many of the displays. I often have issues finding a decent tomato, and similarly when they had the corn display which was out a bit longer than it should have been. On one of the recent nice days, trying to get a little exercise, I did ride my bike up to the store to get something for dinner. This location, for some reason, does not have a bike rack. read more

This Giant Eagle is beginning to feel more like an "open market" than a grocer. This is in part due to the attendants that "specialize" in specific types of products such as: Pharmacy, Wine/Liquor, Meat, Bakery, Dining, Coffee, Customer Service, Laundry. You can buy local farmers milk here. It's slightly more expensive but there's a $1.50 deposit on every $4 gallon, which evens out. It's great to see a national chain partnering with local farms. The pharmacy is lively. Bill and Omar do a great job with customers, remembering your name, and taking genuine interest in you. In addition, this Giant Eagle recently renovated their liquor area. Instead of checking out in the front or waiting for someone to confirm your age at the self-service machines, you can now conveniently purchase alcohol from the associate inside the liquor section, "market-style". Like most grocers, this Giant Eagle also has a Starbucks kiosk. However, there's a very high-value dining area next to this Starbucks. For example, you can get two large crab cakes and two side dishes of vegetables for just $5. It's practically a steal. (Not to mention, the donuts in the cakery are also good, and cheap.) There's also a very kind lady who works the late-night shift at this Giant Eagle. She's attentive and warm, and makes you feel like you're *not* a weirdo for buying sushi at 4 in the morning. Last but not least, the Fuel Perks program is valuable. It's great that you get discounts on food when you buy the gasoline, and likewise. Also, the self-service check outs are superior to other grocer's self-service options, and are usually open into the wee hours of the night. I dont know what's going on in this store, but it's Really going Down! My wife has long said their produce has been declining in quality for many months now, & sadly, I have to agree. That's just the tip of their declining quality iceberg, freshness & (apparently) staff's knowledge of what they're selling! For instance: I went into the store yesterday (Feb 7th) around 3:30 PM, specifically looking for fresh seafood. This is what I witnessed: First I went to the Cheese counter looking for shredded cheese for Tacos I was going to prepare this Saturday ~ they do have a huge selection of Cheese, which is Great! I found a nice 3 blend "Mexican" Taco cheese package, Looked Great! (Until I looked at the "Sell by date" ~ "January 11th 2019" this was nearly 30 days Past the Sell by date! WTF? Anyway, I took it to the Deli right by the cheese & asked what seemed like a manager if she would reduce the price, instead she grabbed it and promptly threw it in the trash... I thought: " Oh well", no big deal, someone just over looked it. I went back & grabbed an in date package & moved on to the Seafood/Meat section. At the Seafood counter I was looking for Clams & Oysters for this evening's dinner. The Little neck Clams were nasty ~ it appeared more than half were slightly open (meaning they were most likely DEAD) numerous Clams were cracked & their shells were in pieces, yet STILL in the show case & all were dry! The "Fresh" Blue point Oysters looked Delicious, so I opted for the Oysters. I ordered 12 & asked her to check on the freshness for me, She assured me they were "FRESH". Something didn't sound right when she grabbed them from the case & they struck each other in the bag (experienced seafood mongers KNOW what "Sound" I'm talking about) I asked if I could see the (legally Required) Certificate that accompanies shellfish from Harvest to sale ~ she obliged & handed me the Certificate ~ Harvest date was JANUARY 8th!! This was February 7th! ONE MONTH OUT OF WATER!!!!!! I quickly questioned her & She assured me they were Fresh!! This person HAD NO IDEA the DANGER this store was placing on customers!! I "tried" to explain how Oysters had a MAX "Out of Water" 5 - 6 DAY Range (*under proper refrigeration) & she wanted to ARGUE This Fact!!!?? Some will say ~ 3 DAYS is MAX, I gave it the benefit of doubt by saying 5 to 6 Days... These were ONE MONTH OLD!! Shellfish can be DEADLY & She wanted to ARGUE about it?????????????? I'm very picky about grocery stores. I spent 6 years in high school and college working in a grocery store and my standards are pretty high. That said, I haven't had a bad experience in this store. The staff are friendly, helpful and know the store very well. Really, the only awkward time I've had in this store was during their remodel but the management put out maps and signs on shelves as they moved products around to complete the work. It made a constantly changing store layout much easier to navigate. The products they stock are excellent, there's a variety of fruits and vegetables, deli items, and packaged foods. You can find pretty much anything you want and if they don't have it, just ask, they will order it for you. The addition of a great wine and beer section and the state liquor agency makes this a one-stop shop for your weekly shopping trip in addition to the special trips before holidays/tailgating/whatever. read more

I love Giant Eagle anyway, because their staff and management go above and beyond the call of duty to ensure their customers have a wonderful shopping experience, but this store in particular is wonderful. I haven't yet had a bad experience here. If you want top-class products and a lot of variety, Giant Eagle is where it's at. Depending on the neighborhood each location is in, you're going to find more of one thing than another, especially in regards to ethnic food. I think Lincoln Village on West Broad St. has more Hispanic items than Sawmill-Bethel (the subject of this review), but this store in particular seems to have more Indian and Asian foodstuffs, which is perfectly okay with me since that's what I love to eat. Overall, the store has been remodeled from top to bottom, and it's positively lovely. The state liquor agency is a huge improvement. You can find products from local breweries and wineries here. Talk about boosting and supporting the state economy! I love it! The produce? Hard to knock it. They take excellent care of the bulk produce. Bruised fruits are removed from the floor and everything looks spectacular. My only pick is that they haven't had blood oranges recently, which makes me sad. However, their selection of fresh produce is second to none. I think only Meijer and a few Kroger stores have had produce that looks this wonderful on a daily basis. They bring in seasonal local produce, too, which is great for the local and state economies. It's apple season, so I'm looking forward to the Ohio-grown McIntosh apples. The other fresh departments - meat, seafood, bakery, deli, cheese shop, and prepared foods - are staffed with the friendliest, most polite people I've ever encountered. They can get pretty busy, especially on weekends, but you're always greeted with a smile and you always get excellent customer service. There's a lovely indoor cafe, too, with free wi-fi. If you get something from prepared foods or the hot foods or salad bars, you can sit down and eat your meal. There's an outdoor cafe, too, in the event you feel like eating outside. It's also refreshing to see that not only are the people working behind the counter working hard, they're having fun too. They're always laughing and joking with each other while they serve customers. They also know their regulars by name, and regularly have samples out. There's one lady in the cheese shop - her name is Lydia - who is an absolute doll. She's very definitely a foodie, and she really knows her stuff. She can tell you just about anything you need to know about the different cheeses. Last week she had samples of an almond-fig cheeseball out, and it was delicious! She'll even tell you what breads, crackers, and meats go with the cheeses best, which will inevitably take you over to the deli and the bakery. In-store marketing at its finest. The parmacy/wellness section has also been remodeled. It, too, looks high-class and is never disorganized or filthy. I wandered over while my mom was shopping recently just to see what all they had. I'd never seen so many vitamins and supplements in my life except at places like GNC. The staff that work this particular department are also exceptionally knowledgeable. Mom gets her prescriptions filled elsewhere, but she had a question for one of the pharmacists and despite the fact that her prescriptions aren't filled at this store, the pharmacist was happy to help her. Can't forget the in-store daycare center, the Eagle's Nest. Parents can drop their kids off (ages 3-9) while they shop. There's also dry cleaning available. You can get your shopping done while you wait. They also just opened a Huntington Bank branch in the store, too. Price-wise, it's a tad spendy to shop here. Things even out if you have a Giant Eagle card. USE IT! Fuel perks? Invaluable. We have saved so much money on gas just by being Giant Eagle customers. With gas prices being what they are, knowing we've saved money on our next tank is a huge relief. read more

This is the most stupid review I have ever written, but you know, there's no reason for bad customer service. I shopped the Sawmill/Bethel Giant Eagle today and spent $85, and since I had coupons for Advil and Boost, I decided to buy them. When checking out, customers are to stand at the end of the checkout counter and clumsily reach over to the clerk around the plexyglass, while she rings everything up, So I handed her my Giant Eagle card, along with the coupons totaling $3 and placed my items on the belt. She must not have been paying attention, but had time to tell me that she was over the virus stuff, and that yesterday she was riding her bike on Henderson Road and a lady pulled next to her in the bicycle lane and screamed profanities at her for not having a mask on. I told her how sorry I felt that that had happened. I even gave the customer service clerk the name of the clerk that checked me out. They could have checked her station and found the coupons, or asked her if I handed her the coupons. I moved my basket out of the way and then she rolled the grocery filled basket, and I asked her for the receipt. She handed me the receipt and I left. I got home and looked at my receipt, and noticed that she did not deduct the $3 from my order. I called the store and was told that I could just bring in my receipt along with my coupons and get my $3 refund. I told the customer service rep that I gave the coupons to the clerk, and she told me "there was nothing she could do if I didn't have the coupons." I told her I gave the coupons to the clerk. She said that I should have checked my receipt before leaving. After hearing her comment, I said that I couldn't believe that was her decision, and she said that it was, so I got very upset and used a profanity, and I hung up. My call was within 30 minutes of my purchase. I just called the customer service department to apologize for my profanity and was told that because I used profanity that I had disrespected her, and she did not or would not help me; but had I been helped satisfactorily on my two phone calls by simply asking or checking with the clerk, I would have understood that the clerk didn't remember me handing her the coupons or if she remembered placing them near the register, and I would have not used profanity, or written this review. Awesome store that has everything. They even have free wifi here and I've seen a lot of people studying in their dining area...which also has a Starbucks. I also love the meat department and market places at all Giant Eagles. A lot of times you'll find different types of marinated meats and cooked foods at different Giant Eagle stores because their cooks are always trying new things and asking the shoppers for their opinions. read more

I shopped Giant Eagle in New Albany before moving to Dublin. I must admit the Sawmill store is a disappointment. The store feels unorganized and seldom have I found more than a few of the check-out lanes open, even the self-serve ones. I also feel like this location has less selection of groceries available. read more

I have shopped @ this GE store for about 3yrs. mgtmt all business but professional. Regular employees , Outstanding ! Always polite and helpful. This is evident thruout store I worked in this industry for over 42 years and am impressed with what I have experienced. Have tried other Giant Eagles but the personnel is what brings me back to this particular store. HR is doing a good job of placing people in the right spots so they can perform well. read more

The first time I went shopping by myself with my 4 week old newborn I tried to get in and out as fast as I could. By the time I made it to the checkout line my little one started to fuss and cry. One of the workers that was not on the checkout line asked if she could help me out and she sang and talked to my baby to calm him down while I was rung out at the register. I was so greatful. Very nice BIG location, and now with a liquor store inside! I was even surprised and happy to find that they carry the green tabasco sauce. You should know that it isn't as easy to find as you might think. Nice deli and bakery too. read more
