The buffet at Whole Foods will forever be (as long as I've lived so far) my favorite buffet of all…read moretime, and this is coming from someone who truly appreciates the buffet experience, especially because of the variety, even though I don't "binge" the way I used to anymore for health reasons, and the buffet is take-home only (I think?). Not only is there such a wide variety of tasty food at the Whole Foods buffet, but you actually feel healthy eating it, and you can make it highly nutritious. You can get excited about the salads, or the roasted vegetables, or the orange chicken, or even that herb feta that you can quite frankly put on anything and everything. The way they make their orange chicken is honestly my favorite. I'm not usually someone who gets excited about orange chicken, but the way they do it here (it's just amazing) and hard to beat. I also love that I can mix together a bunch of healthy salads at once, and I really appreciate the flavor profiles and the freshness (it just elevates the whole experience). I'm honestly forever inspired by this place. It makes me want to look up recipes, learn how different flavors go together, and experiment on my own. It's as much a learning experience as it is a health experience. Anyway, I know it's not cheap, but for me, it's still really worth it. It's consistently something that makes me feel "renewed" so I'm going to keep it as a part of the routine as long as I can afford it. Another cool perk is that if you're a Prime member, you get 5% back if you use your Chase/Whole Foods/Amazon setup. And honestly, the customer service at Chase Bank is the best, and Prime is convenient, so it all just goes together; and while I realize they're kind of taking over the world right now (they are), they're doing it in a way that works for me, so it is what it is. Also, the kale salads (people really need to understand how good kale can be when it's done right) are nothing short of life changing and it can give you the inspiration you need to make it yourself. In addition to the hot bar, they also have specialty items I can only really find here (like Pacha bread, seed crackers, unsweetened coconut yogurt, broccoli greens, organic baby kale greens, and a bunch of other unique, healthy options that are honestly really exciting). That said, baseline prices are definitely high. For example, tart cherry juice at Whole Foods is literally around $14, whereas at Target (across the street) it's more like $5. So it's one of those things where you kind of have to go back and forth and be strategic about what you buy where. Let's face it, Whole Foods is not leading the world in cheap prices. Because it's pricey, you do have to be real and shop at other grocery stores when you can, but every time I go, I can't help myself from getting at least a little bit of the buffet food if it's open, because that's really where it's at.

If you've ever been to a Whole Foods Market, then this hits the spot. It's a spacious suburban…read morelocation with ample parking, geared towards the needs of all ages. This was my first time visiting Giant Eagle. As a vistor from out of town, I fount the variety of…read morevegan options to be very good but what was surprising was how everything in the Giant Eagle location was more expensive than my local grocery stores with even some of my local grocery stores being super expensive. In Boise, Albertsons and Fred Meyer are the most expensive not counting Whole Foods. Giant Eagle had Whole Food prices for regular groceries. The produce in particular was shocking. I had never seen two Bell Peppers for $5.00 before. I was able to find a couple of things to complement what I had ordered to be delivered to where I was staying in Pittsburgh. In the end, if I lived in Pittsburgh, Giant Eagle would not be my first choice for groceries on price alone.

This Giant Eagle was my family's go-to shopping spot for years. Of course, that was before Giant…read moreEagle introduced their Market Districts, let alone before a Target, Whole Foods, and other grocery options opened up in the South Hills. I wanted to add this introduction as a disclaimer since it's entirely possible that I just don't notice a lot of the problems other people have, because I literally grew up walking through this Giant Eagle on an almost weekly basis. That said: normally, I wouldn't really have any issues with this Giant Eagle. When you walk in you basically just walk in a big circle from the entrance to the exit, which isn't that unusual to me - that's what I do at Market Districts and Targets, too. (Probably because I learned to do that here, now that I think about it!) Some of the sections criss-cross a bit, which I can see being a pain; but in my case, the things I want are always easy to grab, so I can't complain. Granted, this store IS small, and that's the biggest thing going against it. Shopping here at a popular time is a bit of a claustrophobic nightmare, plus it doesn't have the same extensive stock as its larger counterparts. But that can be worked around; that makes it a nice go-to for a weekday grocery run, maybe an option for when you realize you forgot one thing at the bigger store. In 2020, the small size of the store is admittedly a bigger issue because being close to other people is a big no-no right now. I can't remember offhand if the store still has directional signs on the floor (Walk This Way, Do Not Enter, that sort of thing), but when these were in use, they definitely made walking through the crisscrossing sections of shelves harder. I'm not saying traffic control shouldn't be used when we're working around a pandemic, just acknowledging that yeah, dealing with that is a pain. What can you do. With that in mind, most of my challenges with this store are purely due to 2020 being 2020; outside of this specific year, I would rate this store at 4 stars, so that's what I'm doing. I've been shopping here all year long as needed, and will continue to do so. P.S. Just want to note that I have no idea what the comments about limited parking are about. There's always plenty of parking when I shop here - unless you're trying to park right in front of the store doors, of course. Those spots are always filled and I don't even check them!

The store is spacious, and stocked with noodles, sauces, rice, lentils, spice mixes, snacks and some frozen items. While they don't have a massive selection, they seem to have a little bit of everything you may need in a pinch. For example, they have a handful of noodles, but not every size and ingredient; they have a few rice varieties, but not every size. Same with the Indian groceries. They carry Korean chilies, canned jackfruit, coconut milk and Thai curry pastes. For those living in USC, MTL and thereabouts, this could save a trip to the strip district or one of the Indian groceries close to the city. Or give you the convenience to try that Indian recipe for which you don't have all the spices. Prices are quite reasonable and service was pleasant. A good addition to the Mall and to Mt Lebanon.
