We need more Trader Joe's stores in Pittsburgh! Everything is healthy and good quality at a fair price. Workers are the sweetest. Store is clean and stocked. It's my favorite place to shop. Since there are only two locations in Pittsburgh - it is usually crowded here. I wouldn't recommend going on weekends. Also be very careful in this parking lot. It is shared with the rest of the plaza. It gets crowded and tight. Cars coming from all directions.

Trader Joe's is a grocery store chain that has typical departments such as produce, dairy, meats, seafoods, grains, canned and boxed goods, frozen foods, health and beauty products, etcetera. Trader Joes, though, is smaller in size that other grocery stores, carries far fewer products, and carries mostly products under its own private label name. Many products are organic or are unique prepared foods that you will not find at other stores. During my recent visit to this location of Trader Joe's, I picked up several fruits, pastas, sauces, and bread. The store did not carry enough products for me to do all of my grocery shopping here, but I enjoyed picking up some new, quality foods. The prices were surprisingly reasonable. At the checkout, I waited in line for maybe one minute. The cashier was very nice in her greeting and farewell. She noticed that my bag of pears was smashed, so she asked another employee to get me a new bag of pears. Unfortunately, that bag also had a smashed pear inside, but I appreciate their efforts.

Some beautiful flowers from TJ's at an unbelievably low price to brighten my day and reduce my stress.

I have always loved Trader Joe's. I usually only review dining and entertainment establishments, but am branching out. First, they only hire really pleasant workers or somehow teach them. The store is well organized, with the exception of some of the "treats," and I think this is intentional so shoppers make new discoveries, which is kind of fun. The produce is always top rate and reasonably priced. TJ's has a good selection of gluten free, vegetarian and vegan products. My omnivorous friends tell me the meats are also top-notch. Even in these tough times, with necessary precautions in place, including limiting # of customers in the store at a time, shopping at TJ's is actually a pleasant experience instead of a chore.

It was recently renovated just in time for the NFL Draft to allow more accessibility and better space for events. In the public area, there are some tables and chairs to sit and enjoy the area. They also seem to plan to have a lot more semi-permenant attractions in the space. Currently their is a roller rink (which is surprisingly affordably priced) . It has historically been home to the Holiday Market (which was moved into the theater area this year because of the construction). I hope the market does move back because Market Square was definitely the better space for it. There is plenty of parking nearby in garages, surface lots and street parking. The one downside is that it is really tough to drive through, especially with the way the renovated it. Drivers seem to be stopping to take in the new look or don't understand directional signage so there is often traffic backups.

The square has a covered area now too, with lots of seating so it can be enjoyed year round. There's so many great restaurants and cafes around the square, and there's expanded outdoor dining at a lot of the restaurants, as well.

Shelves are lined with canned goods, fresh ingredients stored in baskets to buy by the pound, and for some reason branded tourist soap bars. For the Food Tour, we were treated to the fresh hummus and pita. The hummus was very fresh - the owner even discussed how he made it over the last evening, but the pita was extremely dry and flavorless. He was clearly a true chef and creates amazing cuisines. So it is very disappointing that the store has to morph into a touristy shop. The hookah and culture items make sense somewhat, but the Harry Potter and Star Wars themed soap bars just seem like a gimmick that takes away from the true essence of the store. If you like hummus, you should definitely grab a container of the fresh made. But honestly, I doubt many people stop here based on the appearance.

I had purchased some elsewhere recently, but felt compelled to stop in to see Labad's selection. The store ambiance is welcoming, and the man who assisted me was kind and calm when he showed me several types of halva. I chose the Lebanon Valley Halawa Plain. As soon as I got home, I tried a small piece. Oh, my gosh!! I couldn't believe how much better it tastes than any other brand I have tried. What a wonderful flavor and texture! Just perfect. I highly recommend Labad's.
