This was my first time visiting Giant Eagle. As a vistor from out of town, I fount the variety of vegan options to be very good but what was surprising was how everything in the Giant Eagle location was more expensive than my local grocery stores with even some of my local grocery stores being super expensive. In Boise, Albertsons and Fred Meyer are the most expensive not counting Whole Foods. Giant Eagle had Whole Food prices for regular groceries. The produce in particular was shocking. I had never seen two Bell Peppers for $5.00 before. I was able to find a couple of things to complement what I had ordered to be delivered to where I was staying in Pittsburgh. In the end, if I lived in Pittsburgh, Giant Eagle would not be my first choice for groceries on price alone. read more

This Giant Eagle was my family's go-to shopping spot for years. Of course, that was before Giant Eagle introduced their Market Districts, let alone before a Target, Whole Foods, and other grocery options opened up in the South Hills. I wanted to add this introduction as a disclaimer since it's entirely possible that I just don't notice a lot of the problems other people have, because I literally grew up walking through this Giant Eagle on an almost weekly basis. That said: normally, I wouldn't really have any issues with this Giant Eagle. When you walk in you basically just walk in a big circle from the entrance to the exit, which isn't that unusual to me - that's what I do at Market Districts and Targets, too. (Probably because I learned to do that here, now that I think about it!) Some of the sections criss-cross a bit, which I can see being a pain; but in my case, the things I want are always easy to grab, so I can't complain. Granted, this store IS small, and that's the biggest thing going against it. Shopping here at a popular time is a bit of a claustrophobic nightmare, plus it doesn't have the same extensive stock as its larger counterparts. But that can be worked around; that makes it a nice go-to for a weekday grocery run, maybe an option for when you realize you forgot one thing at the bigger store. In 2020, the small size of the store is admittedly a bigger issue because being close to other people is a big no-no right now. I can't remember offhand if the store still has directional signs on the floor (Walk This Way, Do Not Enter, that sort of thing), but when these were in use, they definitely made walking through the crisscrossing sections of shelves harder. I'm not saying traffic control shouldn't be used when we're working around a pandemic, just acknowledging that yeah, dealing with that is a pain. What can you do. With that in mind, most of my challenges with this store are purely due to 2020 being 2020; outside of this specific year, I would rate this store at 4 stars, so that's what I'm doing. I've been shopping here all year long as needed, and will continue to do so. P.S. Just want to note that I have no idea what the comments about limited parking are about. There's always plenty of parking when I shop here - unless you're trying to park right in front of the store doors, of course. Those spots are always filled and I don't even check them! read more

Place is like shopping is Soviet Union in the 1950s. Produce is scarce and often moldy or wilted. Manager is a jerk. Only 1-3 checkouts and you bag your own groceries. The rest is self checkout. Employee picking his nose and handling food! Not allowed to return items with a receipt because they "are closing in 15 minutes". What?! read more

Let's start off by saying, I NEVER leave bad reviews, old adage of "if you can't say something nice don't say anything at all" is a virtue. However, this Giant Eagle is a nightmare. Poor layout, smells like wet cardboard at all times, and the selection is terrible. But what prompted this review was an interaction with an employee today- They hadn't entered in the item I was trying to buy apparently, and after standing at self checkout with the light flashing for about two minutes (with a hefty line behind me) I politely asked a woman who worked there to help me. She proceeded to condescendingly ask if I used my advantage card (of course I did, I'm 29, I know how to use a self-checkout) then kind of yell "well whats the issue" at me. After she "fixed" the problem, I said thank you and she literally didn't look at me or respond back, just yell at the other cashier for not helping me then walked away. Do yourself a favor and just drive over to one of the 10x Giant Eagle Market Districts in the area and don't even bother stopping here. read more

Getting better. Renovations in late 2015 opened things up quite a bit, especially around checkout. It's no longer claustrophobic. The exterior paint and tidying has helped too. Still have to watch dates in dairy. I still find week-old milk in there. read more

This place is an EMBARRASSMENT to Giant Eagle! The only good part of it was Patty D the cashier. The store itself is laid out poorly. You can't find anything. I was there after 9 am. The aisles were cluttered with carts of product, The shelving was disorganized. The meat counter. Employees were there but myself and another man finally got waited on after standing there for 5 min. Prices seemed higher than other Giant Eagles. The produce section was cluttered with carts of product and difficult to move around. Why are you doing stocking during peak times? Check out waiting was horrible . I was 7th in line until Pattie D came up and opened her register. She was lovely, and very helpful. Otherwise this store was horrible! A few days ago, I brought home a wonderful, whimsical buttercream chocolate chip cookie sandwich doodad with a turtle motif. The cookie was thoroughly chewy, and the filling was guilt-inducing. My notions about supermarket bakeries have been challenged. read more

This has been our go-to store for decades but that ended last night. I will honestly say it is a decent store and we have largely been happy there, so, go shop! I pulled up at 9:02 PM to find the store closed for the night. I was in such total shock! To me it is a 'trust' issue. When you have had a friend for that many years who then does something awful, you lose your trust. Giant Eagle has every right to set their own hours, but this was not something I expected from a store of this size, to just shut down during productive evening hours. By the time I finish my evening gardening work and it is still daylight, I expect them to be open! I was shocked, and I am turned off. Adios! I have already calculated the mileage of 5 other stores from which to replace them. That is just an unacceptable behavior on their part. read more

I have always been pleased with the courtesy of the cashiers until today.I went to the office to purchase 2 PACKS of cig. I requested 2 different brands,and the woman who is usually on Express, brought out 2 CARTONS! Thinking she would remove 1 pack from each carton, she rang up the price of 2 Cartons! I never asked for CARTONS! When I told her, I could tell she was upset because she had to avoid the sale. Then when she took the cartons back, she threw them on the floor! Very unprofessional! this store sucks, every time I go in there it's a new level of frustration. Today which is probably my last I'm in the store I walked out without buying a thing. The lines at the checkout counter were long, for the one that were open. No self-serve checkout was open, which added to the problem. No carry baskets to be found anywhere, until I found one under a register. By that time all I want to do is put it down and leave, which I did. Very disappointing with the way this store operates. Back in March when I purchased steel cut oats, tried them soon after and found that I could not tolerate the taste. I called the store and they said to return them after this pandemic is over. Two days ago when I made a special stop there, the customer service girls told me the NEW policy and the store would not give me credit. Shop elsewhere....No more for me. A few reasons for the 3 stars. This has nothing to do the with the workers (who are awesome in my opinion). 1. Selection - This Giant Eagle is on the smaller side. There is not as much variety as the larger ones. I am thankful for the Giant E to be so close to my house but still wish they would have more of a selection. 2. Parking - Parking is kind of crazy because of the limited space. This creates an issue pulling in and out. The pathways for driving in the parking lot is circular like a race track with intersections for you to turn to go the other way (like a parking garage). There are lots of people driving their cars and people walking to their cars with several blinds spots due to the angle / pull in for the spots and traffic patterns. 3. Price / Quality on Premade items - Giant Eagle is not the most price friendly grocery store. I would pay extra if this was a market district where the premade item food quality is better. Example - Rotisserie chicken / Meals - not as good as Market Place. Please note that this is only on occasion .. not all the time. This may or may not be made onsite or more a factor of space / demand. I just work around it and put items in the oven or cook them thoroughly if I am concerned. 4. Store Layout - It is wonky to say the least. I think this is due to the space. You have your dry goods separate by frozen with other dry goods. Example - if you are working thru a list and forget a spice or sauce, you will have to traverse the entire store and obstacles to get there. There are two choke points in the store (Frozen area) where you can either access it by the cashiers or the meat. I will continue to go to this Giant Eagle but visit other grocery stores in the area depending on my needs. Service - Awesome Price - Higher than most (depending if the item is on sale) Atmosphere - Wonky Layout, Crazy parking lot Overall - Great location, Great people keep me coming back. read more

I think all Giant Eagles should send their managers down south to a Publix Supermarket for some training. I'm tired of bagging my own groceries as employees look on standing around only to come by the register once I'm all done. I am literally at this store 6 days a week. Some employees are ok but a few are just miserable? I don't know.. Usually out of or don't have something I am looking for at least a couple times a week ( tomatillo's, a ripe tomato, a ripe avacado etc.. ). The store entrance is just a mess with people trying to get out and in the same door. As soon as you walk in you're in produce and always someone stocking and blocking your way through. Food quality is usually good and it's my closest store so that's why I go here. I think it's better than shop and save but I really miss Publix read more

Holy canoli. This is the strangest giant eagle I've ever seen. The layout is totally weird.. Aisles are like diagonal and there's a freezer section right as you walk in? Check out is hidden around the corner from the entrance.. Only thing worse is the parking lot which is an accident waiting to happen. read more

My sister and I drink nothing but Dairy Pure 1%. Twice, after very recently discovering this location, it wasn't on the shelf. (No biggie!) I asked different associates on both occasions for help. All of them were prompt and friendly, and successful in finding the right one. On a real note, these real people deserve appreciation. Thanks everyone! read more

Store is too small and always crowded. Managers and workers are rude and condescending. Actually just had an awful experience with a manager named Chris. His attitude toward me made me feel putoff. It made me want to leave the store after. I have witnessed him being rude and condescending to other customers too. I just don't feel as though this store has hired workers with good customer service skills, especially this manager Chris. read more

You don't appreciate Giant Eagle until you shop at a store like Bottom Dollar. They don't give rain checks on advertised items that are out of stock. And they don't give you the item free when the cashier rings up the wrong price. They won't match sale prices at Giant Eagle even though their ads says that they'll beat other stores' prices by a penny. They don't even give you bags. The quality of the food at Giant Eagle is far better than other stores. Also, Bottom Dollar only has a parttime manager, who isn't even there if you shop in the morning. Most importantly, you are treated as a respected customer at Giant Eagle and are treated like trash by Bottom Dollar. By the way, I have no connection to Giant Eagle except as a customer. read more
