I come here often and the best time is early in the morning to avoid the crowds, but not too early as they might not have restocked yet. I came in this week after work and that was a huge mistake! I didn't need that many things but the lines were ridiculous. Only two cashiers on the registers and the self checkout lines were insane. In the aftermath of the recent storm the parking lot is a mess. Less parking and with the snow/ice mounds it's hard to see around them and causing dangerous situations! I keep forgetting to bring my reusable bags from home. I miss the plastic bags. These paper bags don't work! read more

I needed a few things to meal prep for the week and since I was in this area I decided to give this place a stop. I was looking for particular things and was hoping that I would be able to find what I needed here. I went up and down the aisles in search of my items. Not surprised in the least that I wasn't able to find everything I needed. I was hoping to make it a one stop shop, but that was not to be. I made my way to the register with my finds and bags in hand and this is where the fun happened. I decided to use the self checkouts as my antisocial self didn't want to talk to anyone. I also didn't want to take out my airpods as I was jamming out to the music. When I went to scan my loyalty card it would not register. So I opted to type in my phone number to get it to work. But it did not work and it prompted for assistance to come my way, exactly what I didn't want to happen. Wouldn't you know it that as my register needed assistance so did two other registers. And at the very moment, the employee that was assigned to the self checkout area disappeared. Amazing. When the employee did show up she came over to my register and basically chastised me for doing it wrong, by that I mean entering my phone number, whatever. I didn't need a strong talking to, I needed you to scan your badge so I could continue on. The whole reason I came this route was so I didn't have to deal with the less than impressive customer service. read more

I was sure that this location would be rated better than the 2.5 stars it has, but I'm guessing I'm experiencing a post-renovation version lol. I have been shopping at this store for over 25 years (including when it was across the street.) it use to be why best supermarket. Many years ago it sold and things started to decline. Now, unfortunately it is a terrible place to shop. Poor supplies, the items they carry get less and less. Today I went in for a weekly special on T-bone or Porterhouse steaks, they had neither of them available (which is a common ploy now). When I went and asked for a rain check they said that they don't do that any more. The sale is just while supplies last. From now on I will shop at Harris Tweeter or Wegmans, at least I can get things I need and a rain check when they are out. Sad for Giant! read more

I am really disappointed in this location, it has been twice that they close the store eaelier then actual closing time 11pm. I am a single mother that needed to grab some extra formula because of my child's feeding needs. This is the only grocery store rite next to us and the other Giant on cherry hill Rd had ran out of our specific formula Similac Sensitive orange label. This giant wayched everyone just standing outside not letting anyone inside the store when there was still 15 minutes left until closing. I would have kept banging on the door but my relative member that went to go purchase the formula was the one to be waiting outside & did not want to cause a problem. However as a Single mom I know my rites and I would of banged on the door until I was able to at least get someone's attention & explain my situation. I feel very unfortunate to not feel respected as a resident living in this Burtonsville area. read more

Very clean with fresh produce. Check out was well done with quick and courteous cashiers. All the personnel were responsive and helpful in finding items I had trouble finding. Definitely a nice place to shop. Some of the shoppers though were not pleasant to the staff and quite a few seemed to have poor attitudes with other shoppers who were checking out on their own. Maybe they are new to the area but Burtonsville is not DC or Baltimore and their language and attitude need adjusting. Burtonsville is a quiet little suburban town and I hope it stays that way. read more

Horribly treated by white cashiers. One intentionally held a extended personal conversation with a customer even though she was done processing her purchase. Today, I was racially profiled by another white employee in self check-out. She moved her monitor position and watched me consistently while I checked out my 5 items (yogurt, crazy glue, and a 50 cent bag of chips). I had on professional clothes and my work badge. I have been an educator in this community for over 20 years. It is shameful that I get treated with such disrespect while trying to get items for students during the workday. Giant is awesome, Giant Burtonsville is always clean, friendly and welcoming costumer service and their wide selection of foods aways amazes me. Giant has a salad bar, pre made lunches, pre made dinners, and everything taste as of it was home made. I have ordered many cakes from their bakery and they are reliable. They got self checkout, and the option to use self scanners as you go shopping. I really like their gas saving/reward program, but there is no near by gas station to use the gas saving rewards on site. This store can get busy and that is why I gave it a 4 out of 5. Regardless of the different options to check out, once the store gets busy (mainly on weekends and holiday) you may wait in line up to 20 minutes to check out. Last, because of local laws they don't sell wine or liquor and plastic bags are charged at 5 cents per bag, so don't forget to bring your own. They do sell their non disposable bags for 25 cents each. read more

I don't normally review grocery stores, but I just had the most frustrating experience. I got something for lunch I thought was on sale, but it wasn't. I guess the key is to put the sale sticker close to other job that is not on sale. They hope you just stick with the item due to the inconvenience. I called for assistance and asked for it to be removed. I paid for the other items then went to find something else for lunch. I grabbed something else. This time, though, I verified it was on sale before grabbing it, but it also did not show up on sale. I just didn't want to deal with the frustration again, so I just bought. I can only go into this Giant once every couple of years. I forget and think let me pop in for some spur of the moment thing. The parking lot is crazy convoluted and small. The aisles are too narrow and the overall store is crowded. It's like they are trying to pack a Super Giant into a regular space. Those complaints aside they are a nice clean upscale grocery with an above average produce section. But all things considered...plan ahead and have a more relaxed experience at a different supermarket. read more

I'm a fan indeed! I tend to grab either a salad, sandwich, or items off the hot bar. As for the last of these three, be careful as to when you go. If there is a high turnover at that time, you're more likely to get fresher, less greasy offerings. They always have fried fish, usually both tilapia and whiting. Other standard items include potato wedges, collard greens, regular and spicy friend wings (or wing-zings, whatever), mac-n-cheese (avoid...), and rotating items based on what they feel like putting out there. Again, just be cautious as to how long everything has been out. Some days, it's really spot on delicious. Other days... meh. Sandwiches rarely disappoint, especially since they've been nearly exclusively using Boar's Head brand meats and cheeses in the selections. The salad bar is ALWAYS fresh, well-stocked, and clean. I have to give them credit for that; they've never shown a bad salad bar. Service is what you'd expect from a grocery store: depends on who you get and what kind of day they've been having. Generally, though, I find their staff friendly, smiling, and pleasant to deal with. Overall, great value and a wonderful spot for grabbing lunch to take back to the office! read more

This giant is new and improved. It is a fairly large store with a decent produce section. They also have a small organic section, however it is pretty pricey if not on sale. The meats section is also decent but still kind of small IMO. There is a hot food section but I've never picked up anything. I typically shop late and don't have to deal with crazy lines. The store alway seems clean and I haven't had any customer service issues. The prices on non organic food are good though. Like any store bring coupons and buy on sale. Nice place shop but if you're a fresh organic produce and organic meats person then you're not going to catch much of a great break here. read more

Giant is the grocery shop i always come to for all my grocery needs. I usually do keto sometimes and most grocery stores don't offer low carb options, but giant does. Everything is typically stocked well, they have low carb yogurt (too good yogurt), low carb wraps, and keto icecream (enlightened). I love that they always have dead, I've gotten t-bone steaks on sale from $6-$8, which is such a great steal! They always have great savings (with a bonus card). There are several self check out scans, so there's typically not a line for checking out. Everyone is friendly and willing to help if you have questions. Overall, a pretty good grocery store. read more

I have had several bad experiences here, including one young employee who sassed and trashed talked customers. They hire a lower socio-economic demographic and their clientele is low end. They now have a rent a cop. I tried for 15 minutes to pay for my groceries. First line had a customer with vouchers (stay away from groceries where people use vouchers - it's always a headache). Ten minutes and cashier was till arguing with customer - no manager appeared. I do not blame young cashier, but invisible management. Next line - young clerk unable to checkout 3 gift cards. Again - no manager, just waiting. Seriously? Is this now the kind of place where gift cards are laundered? Do not go back - head for a Giant with better employees and a less down market clientele and management that cares about customer service. I asked for a manager and the security guard started approaching me. Left as I feared for my safety. Seriously? Asking for that manager gets you am armed guard? Do not go here. read more

We decided to drive a few miles past our usual Giant and visit the newer, larger Burtonsville store. So glad we did. The store is one of the largest Giants I've ever been to. The produce section was well organized and everything looked bright and fresh. There was an ice case near the seafood department with large bags of king crab legs, but since just my husband was eating them he went to the counter and got a one pound bag. The meat counter seemed about average for a Giant in size with a good selection but nothing unusual. In the "seasonal aisle" we found some of our Granddaughter's favorite Shopkins collectibles, and some "Old Bay t-shirts" for my husband. When we went to check out with our scanner a very helpful employee approached us and steered us to an empty do-it-yourself register. She asked if we had checked out since they changed the scanner system and she helped walk us through the new procedure. She was very pleasant and cheerful. Of all the Giants near us this one seems to be the easiest to park and get into the store. Early on a Sunday afternoon there were customers but it was not overly crowded. We've already decided that this will probably be our regular Giant for weekly shopping. read more

Superbowl Sunday, and the order I placed online, and received a confirmation for, never made it to the Giant in Burtonsville, and to make matters worse, all orders had been picked up for the day. It was 5:00 pm and I was already late getting to Giant to pick up my order, and my guests would arrive at 5:30 pm. Gotta hate computer glitches on important days. First reaction, was to have a complete meltdown. Second, was to cry. Well, needless to say that none of that transpired thanks to the quick thinking of the Deli Manager and the wonderful help of Lynn and the team of individuals in that department. They all worked together to get my order complete and they did it in 45 minutes. I am really thankful for the level of customer service experienced at that location. read more

Usually my experiences at Giant grocery stores are good. But this past Sunday afternoon, it was not pleasant. As a customer with low vision (=legally blind) who must adhere to a gluten-free vegetarian diet, shopping is always a labor-intensive, time-consuming chore. For my health & safety, I must read every ingredient of every processed food I purchase. Sometimes I need to ask for help at Customer Service, but the wait time can be long, & it's embarrassing to have to spell out my reason for needing help (my eyes look normal on the outside), so I usually give it my best efforts before I decide to resort to that. I do as much online shopping as possible, but not everything in-store is offered online. This time, I searched the cereal/hot cereal aisle as thoroughly as I could. But I finally went to Customer Service, where I was the only customer. I explained that I needed help finding gluten-free oats. I told her I'd already searched the aisle, unsuccessfully. She called someone. When the return call came & she spoke to someone, she asked if I'd looked in aisle 3. I asked if that was the cereal aisle. She said it was, so I said I'd searched there. She relayed the response that if it wasn't there, they didn't have it. Obviously the person on the phone couldn't see me-- I was wearing dark glasses, carrying a white cane, sporting a large pin that read 'I have low vision', and -- oh, yes, I was also wearing a face mask that announced in all-caps "LOW VISION"-- so I said to Customer Service that since I'm blind, I might have missed it, & I needed some help to make sure I hadn't just overlooked it. There was nobody else there waiting, so she walked with me into aisle 3. I said I'd been looking in the aisle labeled 'cereal/hot cereal'. (I use a telescope to read the overhead signs.) She said that was the problem; the person on the phone said that all the products in aisle 3 were gluten-free; this was their 'Gluten-Free' aisle. We walked along the aisle until she indicated 4 hot cereal items. I thanked her & she left; I pulled out my magnifier to read the ingredient labels. I was shocked when the first item I read was not gluten-free. It must have been shelved incorrectly, so I planned to take it with me once I was done, to alert her, & whoever's in charge of their 'gluten-free' aisle. I read the second, & then the third & fourth labels. NOT ONE of then was gluten-free. I pulled out my telescope & aimed it up at the aisle label. It said "Natural Foods'. Wow. I decided to quit my search, although there may have been some GF foods in the Natural Foods aisle. I was angry. I took all four canisters up to Customer Service & set them all down on the counter in front of the woman who'd picked them out. I said to her that none of the items was gluten-free, that was very dangerous & they really need to do better. I'm almost always polite in store interactions, but on Sunday I left Burtonsville Giant without saying anything else. read more

I'm not entirely too impressed with this Giant. I've been a lifelong Giant shopper but in recent years the quality of this store has gone down. The employees aren't very pleasant either. And unless you go early before work or right before closing, it's always crowded. Even with the addition of new self checkout registers, there's still a line at times. I'm also not a fan of the pharmacy here either. I've started going to the Harris Teeter in Fulton which has provided a much better experience. read more

Horrible! I have twice recently gone to this location only to leave without a purchase. A few weeks ago I went in for a sandwich and the case with a sign that read "If you don't see what you want see the deli counter". I not seeing what I needed I asked for it at the deli counter. The man told me he couldn't help me, for me to just get something from the case. Today I go in just for a small purchase of snacks. The sign says "buy one get one free". So I pick out two boxes of snack cakes one of which had the sticker on the box saying "buy one get one free". They ring up full price for both. The man running the register tries to get help to clear the sale and make the appropriate mark down. He was a nice as could be but ZERO help from customer service desk. He must have called six times asking for help. No one there to assist him in helping me. So not wanting to continue holding up the line, I again leave a 50,000 SF grocery store hungry without being able to make a purchase. I have seen others make comments on the local FaceBook page saying similar things and their dislike for this location. It is sad because it appears like a nice store on the surface and as I said today the guy was nice. Just NO Customer service to be had. read more

I came here because I had some extra time to spare before I met my friend for lunch at a nearby restaurant. The place seems very new. The entire store is very large compared to other locations. The produce section is huge. They had a really nice meat and seafood department. The shrimp were fresh and they had a good selection of meat. They had tons of checkout lanes that actually had people at the register! They also had about 4-6 self check out lanes which was an extra bonus. Definitely check it out if you are nearby. read more

I will not be giving Giant anymore of my business. I had been going to this location for decades (back to when they were across the street at the now empty strip mall and used to sell bulk food/snacks out of barrels with stickers with bar codes for the registers). The cashier working the express line, Jovell, seemed like she was having a bad day and did not want to give me my groceries. She scanned them and left them right in front of her and stared blankly, pretty clear that she was not going to lift one finger and made me move the old lady behind me out of the way so I could retrieve what I purchased. Your front-line employees are the first and last impression we get of your store and brand. Since this is how I am treated, Giant has lost my business forever. read more

AWFUL customer service. they always have lines. Harris Teeter is better, way better. If you self-check and have an issue, plan to wait 5-10 minutes for a manager to come and help. Dirty conveyor belts (can you say raw meat drippings from unsealed packages). Birds fly in and pick at the salad bar. Prepared foods are ancient, over-cooked. Check-out clerks try their best, but who picked the computer system and physical bagging set-up? Giant, did you cheap-out on selecting this?
