The campsites are decently spacious, well for us tent folk anyway. I'm not sure what pulling you 50 foot bus up is like. What I love about this campground is the short walk to the river and the paths that you can access from here. Following the main path to the river, you can access some prime rocks for hanging out, soaking up the sun and on a hot day, jumping into that glacier water, screaming a blood curdling scream, and clawing your way back to the shore. It's the worst, but you can't help but feel so alive!

I rented from Mahkbool, he was very informative and made sure they he was always available for contact if I needed him. I loved how clean the space was, the design was modern, yet very homey. Kitchen space by far was my favorite area. Each suite also had their own balcony! Although the #1 thing I loved the most of the entire stay was the black out curtains they have around the suite to ensure no light gets in (I have sensitive eyes so sleeping at new places was/is always a problem). Even morning time still felt dark so waking up wasn't so harsh nor was I disturbed whilst sleeping. The suite also comes with washer and dryer and all the basic necessities were provided (towels, toothpaste, detergent pods, paper towel, etc.). It made staying the long weekend very convenient and easy. Not to mention they're only 1-2 hours away from the main hiking areas of Moraine Lake and Lake Louise. The suite also came with underground parking (code will be provided for garage door) and access to the communal BBQ grill, fitness room and hot tub use (FAVE). The resort overall was also very quiet, which I really liked as well. Definitely would come back to stay here again!

The lodge website has a lot of helpful info about the different trailheads, hiking vs. helicopter transportation methods, and staying in the Lodge vs. the Naiset Huts vs. Lake Magog campground. + We backpacked in from the Mt Shark trailhead, stayed at the Lake Magog campground, and took the helicopter back out, but you can choose your own adventure. + Lodge guests have extra benefits (that you pay for) including professionally-cooked meals and running showers with hot & cold water. If you're staying at the campground, you'll be bringing your own food, and prepare to embrace your natural smells... but the campgrounds are well-maintained and not a bad choice either. + If you're not staying at the Lodge, you are typically not allowed to go inside the building or linger on the porch area. AFTERNOON TEA AT THE LODGE // + The Lodge hosts an afternoon tea on all non-helicopter flight days (5x/week) on the front porch, open to everyone regardless of if you're staying at the lodge or not. + They had herbal tea, lemonade, loaf cake slices, beer and apple cider, red and white wine, and soda. + The dry apple cider was cold and very drinkable, but maybe not the smartest choice to stay hydrated. Herbal tea was light and I downed it quickly. + The loaf cakes (sold in packs of 3 slices: one chocolate zucchini, one cranberry, one pumpkin spice) were the only non-drink food item they had and sold out the fastest, so get there at 4pm and grab some on your first go. VIEWS & EXPERIENCE // Worth it? Yes. (I highly recommend hiking up to the Niblet and halfway up the Nublet for incredible views of Mt. Assiniboine, Sunburst Peak, and the lakes.)

Amazing lodge. Amazing staff. Amazing location. Amazing experience…read more We stayed for only 3 days recently and had an out-of-this-world good time. From the greeting at the lodge, to the meals, to the fantastic guiding, the team at Assiniboine Lodge provides an experience that I will treasure. The rooms in the lodge are cozy. Our bed was comfortable, the pillow was soft, and the duvet was warm. In the morning, coffee is ready for you before the sun comes up. Giving you time to get your first cup as you wait for the sun to warm the peak of Assiniboine -- providing several thousand photo ops. :^) The early breakfast is served in two courses -- one is self-serve with yogurt, muesli, and fruits. Then they serve a hot breakfast -- like pancakes, bacon and soft-boiled eggs. Best of all, they come around with seconds! Then you pack your lunch, and your guide will take you on the day's hike. We did two hikes -- one with Alex and one with Claude. Both were excellent. They kept the pace aligned to the group, and gave us lots of times to enjoy the scenery. Claude also has plenty of stories and information to keep you entertained. I'm not a "bear person", but I was completely comfortable that we'd be fine if we came across one. Heck, I WANTED to come across one by the time we were done our hike. Ironically, there were several other bear sightings that day, and it seemed they were all within moments of us being nearby. The hike is followed by tea time. Tea, coffee, and fresh baking. You can kick back, share photos with the other hikers and enjoy the food and experience. A bit later, and it is supper time. The chef and her team are amazing. We had an outstanding chicken dish one night, and steak the next The supper is fresh and delicious. Again ... seconds are offered up. Of course, this is followed by dessert. Again, outstanding. Ready for bed? Not yet. The sun sets, the stars come out, and once again you'll find yourself blowing off several hundred pictures. What will I do differently next time I go? I'll get a real camera with a better lens and more storage.

Two interesting things on the menu - the bison burger and the elk burger. I ordered the elk burger with a side of daily soup which was chicken and mushroom, and hubby ordered the bison burger with fries. I also ordered a local beer. Based on the amount of people in there, the food came out slowly. However, we both enjoyed our meals. My elk burger was tasty but I couldn't find the elusive Saskatoon jam on it. Soup was amazing. Here's why: It's easy to get to, but the walk is wonderful. At just over 7kms from the road, Tombstone campground gets you significantly away from society. You're far enough away to experience a mountain range with a scenic valley and not another human in sight. Once you're up the first hill, the walk is very flat. It's rugged and off road enough to be interesting, but it spends it's time meandering through the valley, offering you lush fields with ample views and spectacular mountainscapes. There's a few short day hikes from the campground. At only 7.5-ish kms, you could start in the morning and arrive at the campsite for lunch. From here, you could set up camp, have lunch and easily embark on one of the 8km-ish day hikes within the area to return to your already set up camp in the evening, looking forward to the food and campfire that awaits. This is an excellent idea. Just be cause you hauled all your food and accommodations way out into the wilderness, doesn't mean your daylight and energy is best spent lugging that stuff around. After ditching out stuff, we decided to make the easy trek up to the tombstone lakes, which involved some relaxing, a bit of skree scrambling and some Pika viewing. Bring your rod and reel if you're heading to Tombstone. Just sitting by the waters edge we saw many trout swim by. Some fresh fish for dinner would really up the camping experience. As far as backcountry campgrounds go, this one is full featured with each site having its own firepit and picnic table. There are no tent pads, but leave it up to you to choose the best location for your tent, from sheltered and tree'd in, to out in the open. We put our faith in our shelter and despite the thunderstorm warnings chose a spot overlooking the ridge. Thankfully the weather let up so being exposed to the sunshine was a good thing. Tombstone makes for a wonderful overnight adventure in the backcountry without having to haul your gear the whole way. The mostly flat and downhill 7km exit for for an easy exit too.
