There's a diagram that outlines all of these acupressure points that she kept pressing which she pointed out in the hallway before we went to the room. The masseuse used special techniques to stimulate acupressure points by kneading and rolling to the point where she actually stopped to tell me part of my scapula was "not good," and I could tell because it got increasingly painful as she worked on it. I added cupping to the massage, which was my first time trying it, and I have no regrets. It adds a slight bit of pressure to the back but not at all to the point where it becomes painful. She used the one that vacuumed the air out so no fire was involved. I didn't realize that the color of the circles meant something, so I learned a lot about my body's circulation and stagnation. It's honestly so worth it to get a massage like this to relieve the stress your body holds because I don't believe a typical massage can get it out as this traditional Chinese massage can. I was taking oxycodone every six hours just to keep the pain under control. At my one week follow up, my surgeon suggested acupuncture for systemic issues. That's when I decided to see Dr. Chen, and I am so glad I did. During my visit, he asked a lot of medical related questions to understand my condition. He was very attentive and explained why he placed needles on certain pressure points. He also used a machine to apply electrical stimulation on some of the points to enhance the results. The treatment was very thorough and he treated me from head to toe. I was exhausted yesterday and didn't feel much different right away, but the results surprised me this morning. After days of taking stool softeners and drinking prune juice with no success, I was finally able to go. Even more amazing, my pelvic pain was completely gone. I couldn't walk on my own yesterday and had to use a wheelchair because of the pain. This morning, I was able to take a few small steps by myself. I've been going to Dr. Chen for a few months and he is seriously the guy who changed my perspective of acupuncture. I was always skeptical but then I had some issue with a twitching eyebrow and he poked me with a few needles and after two sessions it was gone. He mentioned it was something to do with my liver and between session 1 and 2, I threw up bile in the morning. The twitching went away and from that moment, I was flabbergasted that it actually worked. For the record, I studied medicine in undergrad and grad so this was definitely the wow moment.
