I generally live by the motto, "if you don't have something nice to say, don't say anything at all". Unfortunately, in the case of these movers, I felt compelled to speak. They were really, really not good. Yes, you get what you paid for. I needed a piano and matching bench moved from the UES of NY to Westchester. Small but expensive upright piano, elevator building to a ranch house with no stairs. These movers undercut the competition by a few hundred dollars, so i thought I was really getting a great deal. unfortunately, as the day and hour of the appointed time came and went, they were a no show. I called and the owner apologized profusely saying when he confirmed my time, he confused my email with another customer. Anyway, he wanted to reschedule for 2 days later. I reluctantly agreed. If this had been the only issue, I would not be writing this review. On the new move date, he and his workers did get to the apartment of the person selling the piano and they apparently moved it out without fuss. However, when it arrived in Westchester, the piano came fine, but the bench had two horrible cracks in it. The mover told me "oh, I didn't notice this crack when I moved it out, but it looks like it had already been glued once, so you may just have to put some more glue on it. Some gorilla glue or something should do the trick" I didn't want to make a big deal out of it at that time. And, fortunately, I paid him by check. When I spoke with the owner later that day, she said the piano and the bench had been in immaculate condition and, considering the pictures of her apartment on the UES of Manhattan, and the fact that she was a family friend, and the fact that the legs wobbled so badly because of the cracks that you did not feel safe sitting on what should have been a gorgeous bench, I was more inclined to believe her than the mover. Also, because of the placement of the two cracks, there really is no way anyone could have picked up the bench without noticing them. However, if the bench were picked up by its two legs and squeezed, I could easily see how the movers caused the cracks.
Anyway, as I said, fortunately, I paid by check. I emailed the mover and said we had a problem. I explained my conversation with the piano's owner and said I was going to cancel the check and get some estimates for repairs. Well, I guess I was no surprised that I never received any response to my email. I guess they chalked up that move as a loss. I was happy that the piano arrived in excellent condition. Too bad for the bench. Its also unfortunate that it cost more to repair the bench than I had paid for the move, but because it was a matching bench, purchasing a new one would have cost twice as much as it cost to repair it. Ahhh well, lesson learned....
