Was redirected here after stopping by another local locksmith that wasn't able to make a copy of my keys. As I walked in and showed them the key (it's a Mul-T-Lock key with two magnets in it) they said they could do it. The guys were super courteous and when I asked about those contactless key fobs, they mentioned plans to be able to make copies of those in due time. Got to love local businesses. Super accommodating. When he couldn't fit me in for the next two Saturdays, he offered to stay late or come early to take a look at my problem lock. We settled on a 8am for the next business day. Day of, I heard some chatter outside my window, and noticed some neighbors chatting up a guy w/a tool bag. I had a hunch it was Vinnie showing up for our scheduled appointment right at 8am! Sure enough it was, and I thought that has to be a good sign if the neighborhood folks want to stop to chat him up. He tinkered w/my problem lock and suggested it could be an alignment issue. But after a few more minutes, the lock showed it's true colors and jammed. He called me back and suggested it be replaced after all - which I was happy to. He explained that the old one was bad quality and replaced it with a better quality one. Super happy with the new lock and service. He was in and out in under 30 min and i even thought i'd be "on time" to work, HA! Sorry girly, train delays! Why isn't there a 6 star option? Because these guys deserve it. My bedroom door was locked and I couldn't get in and I asked around and got ridiculous "we'll do it for $100" responses. Matt answered the phone and told me that all I needed was the proper screwdriver and while he could do it, i could pretty much do it myself. I went over, got the screwdriver (which he shaved a bit to make it easier for me), got a 3 second demonstration, and voila- I opened it in under a second. All for $3. GREAT service, friendly and honest. There are so many scammers in the world of locksmiths and these guys are a small privately owned shop and they do great work. Vinny came over and had my locks changed in less time than they said and for 10 dollars cheaper. He also didn't bat an eye when I accidentally locked us out while testing out my new locks (I left the new keys on the table). I can't recommend these guys enough, especially after I called the number that came up after googling "Astoria Locksmith" (if you see 718 989 2##8, be wary. They seem awful). When in astoria on Steinway ave I remembered that I had to make a few key copies and the time to do it is right now or else I will let it drag on and never get it done. it's a corner shop that is a locksmith/hardware store but I assume that most customers use the locksmith service more then the hardware stuff. I needed 2 medeco keys duplicated and they have the machines and experience to get the job done in a timely manner . Prices are fair for these type of keys and they fit like a glove , no need to go back to refile or a bad copy. A GOOD family owned business to support while shopping and eating in astoria. read more

I cannot praise DV's professionalism and courtesy enough. I was locked out of my apartment late at night and a sketchy locksmith I called from a sticker on my mailbox (to my own fault) came and drilled out my lock. I didn't need the lock replaced immediately because I have double doors and they were charging me what even I knew was an overly inflated price. The next morning I walked around the corner to DV and not only did they charge me half the price the other guy quoted, they fixed the damage he had done as well. All in about 10 minutes! I was looking to replace my existing lock because I found another one operated by Alexa. I spoke to Mark about the service and sent pictures for his review. As it turned out, my existing lock is the top of the line, one of the most secure on market, and I was looking to replace it by much inferior product. It does not happen very often that one gets honest advice. These guys are excellent! My garage door lock that is is from the bronze age finally crapped out. From the looks of it however it almost seemed like someone was trying to break in which was even more worrisome. I called up DV for help and they showed up within 30 minutes. Not only were to able to install the new lock quickly but the tech also confirmed that the tumblers in the cylinder just went bad and that there was no foul play. They did exactly what we needed, did not try to overcharge us or force us into anything not necessary and made our locks so much safer and more efficient than they were. Great response to a request to change out a tumbler, one hour after initial call. Professional no nonsense service, arrived with all equipment needed and finished within a half hour. During the lock repair, he noticed that one of the other lock mechanisms was faulty such that I would not be able to get out in the event of an emergency (fire)! This was a major safety problem. They have an odd balance of things. Theyre a small shop so youd think theyd focus on "homey" stuff (disk racks, shelf liners, etc) but they have a pretty decent selection of hard hardware (hand tools, fasteners, etc). This wouldnt be my go-to for anything, but theyre way cheaper than Strauss, so probably 3rd on my list after Home Depot and R&R. read more
