The National Grid gentleman arrived in less than an hour from notification. His first question: do you have a humidifier? Answer: yes. Turns out the gas flame was being affected by the minerals in the humidifying mist changing the flame's color to orange. I found carpenter ants and rotting wood on the corner of my porch about two weeks ago.
