I have to agree with Lyn that this may be the top draw to this mall. I didn't try the nuts but they were having a special on fudge when I went. Darn .. I had a minimum number of pounds to purchase .... oh well (hehe). I had the pistachio, the turtle (caramel) and the one with nuts. Mmmmmmm ... yum! The only reason I didn't give four stars was because I just reviewed Josh Early in Bethlehem and these two are on different levels.

Grandpa Joe's Candy Shop in downtown York is such a fun and unexpectedly massive candy experience…read more From the moment you walk in, it's clear this is not your typical candy store. There's a mix of vintage candy, modern treats, international finds, and playful novelty items all packed into a really creative space. One of the most memorable details was the humor throughout the store like a toilet display with candy "coming out" of it which really sets the tone for how fun and lighthearted the whole place is. Beyond candy, they also had cool extras like funky socks, giant rubber chickens, and even a train that runs overhead through the store. It feels like part candy shop, part novelty museum. I especially loved their prank section and soda selection. I tried a pickle pop soda and a cabbage water soda (definitely an experience), plus the viral-style fruit ice creams. I also grabbed a couple truffles cookies and cream and tiramisu which were a nice sweet finish after all the adventurous finds. The staff was nice. They helped me with some questions that I had. One thing to note is parking in downtown York you'll either be using a garage or street parking, but it's worth it. The store is much bigger than I expected once you're inside, so give yourself time to really explore. Overall, it's a super creative, family-friendly stop that's more than just candy it's an experience I'd definitely go back to.

The kind of shop that's clearly been doing things right for decades because they don't need to shout about it. You walk in and immediately get hit with the warm, buttery aroma of their homemade caramel corn, and honestly? Game over. Your willpower never stood a chance. They make so much in-house, and you can tell it's done with care. The candy cases are packed with classics, handmade treats, and those "oh wow, I haven't seen that since I was a kid" finds. On top of that, they carry other great local goodies, which just makes the whole experience feel even more special and community-rooted. And the chocolate-covered strawberries? Absolutely delicious. Fresh, juicy berries with a smooth, rich chocolate coating that's not overly sweet just perfectly balanced. Simple. Classic. Nailed it. Wertz Candies isn't trying to be trendy. It doesn't need to be. It's cozy, charming, and exactly what a local candy shop should be. If you're nearby and don't stop in... frankly, that's on you. A forever favorite. Classic for a reason.

I recently participated in Georgie Lou's Retro Candy's 6th Annual Sweetheart Stroll, and while this…read moremay have been their sixth time hosting it, it was my first time even hearing about it. I immediately corrected that mistake by buying a ticket the moment I saw the event posted--and then started counting down the days. The concept alone sold me: a ticketed, adults-focused stroll through downtown Carlisle, with participating small businesses offering tastings, experiences, treats, and deals. Sweethearts of all kinds were welcome--couples, besties, gal pals--and dressing in red and pink for Valentine's vibes was strongly encouraged. Say less. Ticketing was super easy, and Georgie Lou's did a fantastic job with pre-event communication, especially via social media. One post in particular deserves a shout-out: a reminder to bring a bag to carry your treats. This is something I absolutely would not have thought about until I was awkwardly shoving sweet treats into my coat pockets. I came prepared with a small reusable shopping bag (pink, obviously), and by the end of the stroll it was completely full of sweets, trinkets, and purchases. Meanwhile, others were struggling with overflowing pockets alongside gloves, hats, maps, and life regrets. Lesson learned. Excellent advice! I found parking around 1pm and headed to Georgie Lou's to check in and grab my materials. The staff were incredibly friendly, checked my name off the list, and sent me on my way with a Map of Hearts, a button identifying me as an official 2026 Sweetheart Stroller, and a small sweet treat to kick things off. I also took some time to explore the shop itself--my first visit--and wow! They have managed to pack an impressive amount of nostalgic goodness into a small space. Total blasts from the past, plus candies I'd never seen before. Super fun shop! From there, the stroll itself was a delight. Georgie Lou's clearly put a lot of care into coordinating participating businesses, and it showed. Most spots offered sweet treats, discounts, or special offerings, but every single business was warm, welcoming, and happy to have folks stopping in. Even though I've done a few downtown Carlisle walk-style events before, I still discovered shops I'd never been in--and every purchase I made that day was from a place I was visiting for the first time. That alone feels like a win. Overall, this was a fantastic way to spend a few hours on a very chilly January Saturday. It got me out of the house, walking downtown, supporting local businesses, and discovering gems I usually zoom past while driving from Point A to Point B. I had such a great time that I jokingly asked if I could pre-register for next year... apparently that's "not a thing yet." Fine. I'll wait. :) This has officially been added to my annual tradition list. Great event, great execution, great vibes. Well done, Georgie Lou's!
