I saw Wicked from the front row at the Gershwin Theatre. It was an incredible experience and absolutely worth seeing in person. The Ozmopolitan drink from the bar was very tasty. Tastes like sour green apple. Front row was a plus because it gives insane detail. I was able to catch micro facial expressions, the costume details, and even the performers sweating. It was super immersive, and I even made eye contact with some of the cast members!! But the seat was also too low and extremely close to take in the full stage. Before the show started, people in the first two rows were already discussing that they can't see the dragon overhead, and they're right. From super up close, you miss the big picture of how the show is fully meant to look. Moments feel fragmented instead of cohesive, and you can't take in everything at once. It felt a bit more like individual moments than one big production. The stage is huge with far sides and a high upper section. So it's better experienced from a more panoramic view a little farther back. But I'm still glad I got to experience Wicked from the front row. read more

The history of this beautiful theatre and the sheer size of it was really shocking. I walked in picturing a smaller theatre and was really pleasantly surprised. Hub treated us as my son who actually wanted to see the #1 rated show and I had never actually seen "Wicked" after al these years. Gershwin Theatre is the home of Wicked. I had to come see Wicked during the weekend I was in NYC as the movie was coming out. Truly an experience I won't forget and Gershwin theater added to that magic. The theater is pretty centrally located and was a super easy walk from where I was staying during my trip. The queue to get in was smooth and the theater was expansive. I had great seats and ended up getting a shirt (of course) and some snacks to get me through the show. read more

At last, I'm here to watch Wicked! Gershwin is MASSIVE! This is the largest Broadway theater I've been in. It has its own plaza, a giant lobby with escalators leading up to the theater, a giant bar and concession area, and of course, a huge theater. I'm surprised not even Phantom of the Opera had a theater this large during its run. My phone was having trouble pulling up my QR code since the connection here isn't really good, so I went to the reservation booth, gave my information, and received a printed ticket. A souvenir! SO HAPPY I SAW WICKED. MAN, I can't believe it took me this long to FINALLY watch Wicked!!!!! I snatched up a partial view seat in the second row of the orchestra, row CC seat 5, for a more budget-friendly price compared to other seats with a fuller view of the stage. It's not the greatest view, but for the price of sitting in orchestra, it's not bad! I got chils when the show started. Beautiful, epic music, and amazing costumes. Even with where I'm sitting, because I'm so close in the orchestra section, getting to see the costumes up close delighted me as a sewist and costume designer. Tears burst from me during "Defying Gravity" This was such a magical Broadway experience. I had read "Wicked" in high school, and after watching the Broadway show, I finally watched the movie while it's free on Amazon Prime. The fact that I listened to John Chu's memoir "Viewfinder" before watching Wicked also makes the watch more special! read more

The theatre is so massive! Be prepared but there are escalators so it is great. Views were good even though we were all the way up top. Honestly I had a great time and the bathrooms were less crowded at the top. We got the 2-1 Broadway tickets since it was going on. I recommend checking what seats are available on the date you are available and going to the box office physically to get physical tickets to save yourself the online fees. Very happy with the production, music, and the props. I'm honestly not a big fan of Wicked's storyline and meanings from the show but the production was great. I've been to Gershwin Theatre twice to see Wicked - once last month and once in November 2023. Lines are REALLY long for Wicked, so be sure to arrive at least 30 minutes before showtime to make sure you're seated by showtime. They start no more than 5 minutes after the scheduled showtime so they're pretty prompt, and they say that they don't allow you into the theater 10 minutes after showtime. Merch, food, and drinks are extremely overpriced, but that's to be expected with any NYC Broadway theater so I'm not knocking off any stars for that. As for the show, WOW. The production value alone is epic, but the talent?! Amazing cast, tearjerking story, and exceptional music. No wonder they made Wicked into a movie. Alyssa Fox was the most AMAZING Elphaba, and it was such an incredible privilege to have watched her in her element. I couldn't think of a more perfect actress to play Elphaba for the 20th anniversary of such a beautiful musical. read more

Absolutely speechless. Came to watch Wicked and even though I've seen Wicked a few times in California watching it at the Gerswhin Theatre was a completely new experience. The staff here have the process nailed down so it's very efficient getting through security and into the theater. Everyone was friendly and helpful throughout our visit. We got Wicked themed alcoholic beverages which came in a souvenir cup (super cute) and some candy (nerds gummy clusters) The theatre itself is quite big and spacious with clean bathrooms. Our seats in orchestra were comfortable and the view was spectacular. It was my friend's first time watching and we both shed tears and had full body goosebumps, the cast was mesmerizing. The Gershwin Theatre is the home of Wicked on Broadway and any person, munchkin, monkey or Emerald City resident would be silly to not try and get tickets to see one of the greatest musicals ever created. The theatre itself was very grand, well maintained, and had a lot of areas to order refreshments, merch, and learn a bit about the history of Wicked and its accompanying siblings from Oz. Food and drinks wise - you got options... a lot of pricey options. Though it's expected, paying $25 for a souvenir drink seems super criminal, but we want those collector cups regardless. The show itself is magnificent and kudos to all of the amazing talent for bringing this amazing story and musical to life. We had an interesting "interruption" we'll call it during our show when they had to stop after the first number to wait on a cast member to arrive on set (I think...)? But it all worked out and we finished with a bang. Definitely reserve tickets in advance especially with how pricy they've become since the movie came out. Took advantage of broadway week and took my daughter to watch wicked as she wanted to watch it before the part 2 of the movie comes out. There was a long line when we got there, 30mins before the start of the show times. But it moves very quickly and we efficiently got into the theater within less than 5mins. Since daughter is short, I always get tickets in the mezzanine level because there's less chance of her being completely blocked by someone tall given the incline of the seats. We sat in front mezzanine row B 105 and 106 and it was perfect. If you are short, I would suggest not getting row A as the bar in front along with their lighting would block your view. We saw people sitting in front having trouble seeing the stage. The seats were spacious - New York standard, and the incline was generous compared to other theaters. They also have boosters for kids just outside the doors before you walk in. The restrooms are located just outside the theater doors. There were plenty of stalls and it was clean and spacious. This is one of the bigger theater in nyc. It's beautiful and comfortable. This is my 7th time watching wicked and it's just as good as my first time watching it 21 years ago. read more

Came here for the one and only Wicked. Absolutely AMAZING performance. We had front row seats and it was truly an amazing experience. The line does get very long to get in and it lines up about an hour prior to the show. We got there around 1:20 for a 2pm show and it was pretty long. To the point that I was a bit panicked that we wouldn't make it in time. But we did. The line does move fast once they start letting you in. Online says no shopping bags or oversized bags however they seemed pretty lenient. The lines for the women's restroom does get severely backed up. So bad that the women invaded the men's restroom and it was still backed up! The number of stalls is clearly not enough for the amount of people this place holds. They do have great merch so be sure to grab that before or after the show. My recommendation is before because there was no line. After the show was pretty chaotic given the crowds. They serve snack food and drinks. Be sure to grab the souvenir cup. If you're thinking about it, JUST DO IT! You won't have any regrets. And I don't think there's any bad seat in the house. read more

We went to NYC to see"Wicked" at the Gershwin Theater. The theater was magnificent- spacious, easy access to the performance hall, beautiful interiors. And the show was incredible too! I especially was in awe of the set designs. And the live orchestra! My only complaint- the bathrooms were inadequate to meet the needs of hundreds of patrons. Had to watch a Broadway Show while in NYC. We chose Wicked and so glad we did. This theater is like a well oiled machine. From the time you line up outside, going through security to the ticket person, there's always someone directing to EXACTLY where you need to be. They have entrances, rows, memorized like the back of their hand. Even during intermission, knowing that the women's bathroom lines would be long, there was someone making the lime curve so that there's no one blocking the flow of traffic. Afterward the show, which was absolutely amazing (the cast, the singing, the beautiful message, and the production), the souvenir line was quick and efficient. Visited Gershwin Theatre for an afternoon showing of Wicked. We got there early and were herded into separate lines. Luckily all the lines were covered in shade for the most part unless you were a late arrival and ended up more on the sidewalk Once the doors opened, things moved quickly. Walking into the theater, I was immediately impressed by the stage design, it looked like it could start singing to me at any moment. The lower-level seats had a solid amount of legroom, and the view of the stage was fantastic. The show itself? Absolutely amazing. Let's just say the movie doesn't even come close. Now, for the less magical part: the bathroom situation. Let's just say it was popular. Especially for the ladies' side. Pretty standard for a big theater, but still, if you've got a weak bladder, plan accordingly. Just don't leave just before intermission you will regret missing that part I promise! On the plus side, the merch stand and bar service were excellent. Drinks were good, and the swag made me want to empty my wallet faster than Glinda drops "popular" references. Staff were friendly and helpful throughout, which kept the vibe upbeat. Overall, it's a roomy, beautiful venue, and the neighborhood around it felt safe and family-friendly. Came here with two of my girlfriends earlier today to see Wicked- which was absolutely amazing- great cast and show if you haven't seen it, go see it immediately...but this review I would like to focus on the theater itself. The Gershwin Theater was built in 1972 and is rich with history. I absolutely LOVED the layout of the theater and its stage. All of the lobbies were very spacious and did not seem nearly as hectic compared to other Broadway theaters I have been to. Clean bathrooms, friendly staff. We sat in the Mezzanine BB1-5, I loved how it was only just the three seats next to each other and the way that section is designed, it almost felt as if we had our own private booth. We were also felt close enough where we can see all the actors expressions yet far enough where we got a great view of everything going on. I did wish I had a little more legroom but otherwise it was a great experience all around. read more

Ticketmaster sold me the handicap seats without telling me so the lady brought me a chair to sit in which wasn't too bad. This theater has a different layout from others , there are orchestra seats and mezzanine seats, no balcony. I wasn't aware of this and purchased 2 tickets in orchestra and 4 in mezzanine ( it was a last minute decision to go so choices were limited). Tje proce difference was only $10 so I didnt think much of it. This is the largest Broadway theater so I discovered its really spread out. I sat in 9th row in mezzanine with my kids and their friends. We were high up and far back from the stage. Luckily I brought my glasses. Whenever I'm going back here ill be site to plan ahead better and get orchestrated seats or front mezzanine ( which i think is still kinda far ) . There seats are terrible its just the size of theater is a lot larger than what I'd been to. On the plus side ,there's definitely more leg room and it's more spacious. The modern design is less cramped. There are bathrooms conveniently located on the same floors so no having to go to other floors for that. Great bars on various levels . read more

Went to the theatre for an evening showing of Wicked. The lines moved fast, and it was easy finding our seats because we were guided by the staff. I will say the concession prices are sky high, so I did not get snacks. Overall, it was a good experience. We scored last minute same day tickets to Wicked at the Gershwin Theater. What a dream come true. We arrived 30 mins before show time & the line was already out in the street. It was very cold & we came bundled up. We got great seats. The usher & usherettes were great in helping us locate our seats. There are bars at all levels. As expected, very pricey refreshments & treats. $8 for a pack of M&Ms, $6 for a small can of pringles, $6 each for a water bottle. Tons of Wicked merchandise. As for the show, I have no words. Amazing cast. Insane voices. What a production. Tears were shed from this non-crier. Simply the best! What a surreal experience seeing one of the best broadway shows in a historic theater. Usher pointed us in the wrong direction at fist, and the others were very micro-managey about how we got to our seats, but I get it, as working with the public can often require patients and micro-management. I'm very fortunate and super blessed to be able to watch Broadway Musicals & Plays in New York. The first time I watched Wicked and visited NYC was back in 2005. This legendary and award winning Musical has been showing since its debute in 2003 and I was invited to rewatch it this week. This past Monday, two of my work colleagues had plans on watching Wicked and I was wondering if maybe Rush tickets were available. Once in a while I do put in and bid for lottery tickets. To no avail, you could only purchase online tickets or walk in to the Box Office. So right at 10am, I headed straight to the theater to inquire. The cheapest tickets were in Mezzanine, instead I really wanted a good view. To our surprise, we all purchased Center Orchestra Row B at a very good price. Gershwin Theatre is right in the middle of Times Square Theatre District between 50th & 51st Streets. There is free WiFi. By far this is the largest Theater I've been to in NYC, you don't normally see escalators like most theaters. Concession stand upstairs serving drinks and snacks. Pretty much every showing gets sold out and the atmosphere is electric! Mary Kate Morrisey is my Elphaba! The theatre: we sat in the middle of row A. The pricing scheme might make you think you are too close, but i disagree. It's the perfect row to see every character in every scene. You see all the details of their facial expressions and the queuing from the conductor. The stage and set are phenomenal! Cons: it takes forever to get out. Everyone exits via the side doors and proceeds right into a bottleneck down the stairs. But that is the nature of these old theatres! read more

We traveled for the day to come see wicked to celebrate me being cancer free. There were school groups that were yelling, jumping and talking to each other the entire time. I could hardly see because they were waving their arms around, standing up to talk to other rows etc. I work with special needs kids so I don't mind much, but these kids were out of control. They were all jumping in their seats, yelling, making inappropriate comments and some were even farting non stop and laughing about it. It smelled like a farm. staff didn't do much about the sound, just flashed a flash light at them and told them to stop. They didn't tell the teachers or anything. I didn't enjoy the play much because I could hear the kids much more than i could hear the dialogue. I have hearing loss in one ear from chemotherapy so it makes it hard to ignore really loud sounds near by. I'm so bummed. I love wicked. I wanted so badly to enjoy this experience and soak it in. I don't know if it was because of the distractions but if you had told me this was a play done by a really good community theater group I'd believe you. (Other than the props obviously) There aren't enough bathrooms so they pulled women from the line at the end of intermission and had us use the men's room. There was a staff at the door rushing us along by shouting let's go ladies let's go let's go! I was so stressed. This was not a lovely experience. I didn't get to soak in any of the broadway magic. I'm honestly just so sad. I suggest the theater having field trip specific days of controlling behavior is difficult. read more

I booked tickets to Wicked, my first Broadway Musical play. I have to say it was AMAZING! So good, well run and seamless! The flying monkeys, set design and special effects were really well done. 12/10! I definitely recommend this one and booking seats as close to the stage as possible. I had pretty good seats from stage but I would be willing to see this again and spend $$ to get even closer! I sat at ORCHST, Row Q, Seat 116 and it was a nice seat. Ideal if you need to run to washrooms during intermission and get ahead of the crowds because it's right at the end of row by aisle. Haha. It is a great theatre, and inside is a nice setup--everything was well-designed. It was also close to the 50th train station (A&C train), which made getting there easy from Penn Station. It was a little dusty; we could see all the dust on the balcony. We got good seats at the front of the Mezzanine level. Wicked Show was great; we got tickets last year, even before we knew the movie was coming out. We saw a movie a couple of months ago, so I ended up checking to see if the show was close to the movie and if it was an exact match for Act 1. Since the movie was in 2 parts, we got to see how it ends in this show. We will wait for part 2 of the movie at the end of the year. I miss coming to Broadway shows; I think this is the first show in about 10 years. We have seen most of the popular shows in the past. We might go see Moulin Rouge or something soon. As for Wicked show, it's the show to see. I recommend it. The theatre was lovely and within walking distance of Times Square. Overall, we are glad we decided to see Wicked at the Gershwin Theatre. I definitely got emotional and unexpectedly cried during Defying Gravity because the actress voice was so moving! Mid-sized theatre where I saw Wicked! Some seats towards the far ends are a bit obstructed, but it didn't feel like we were sitting too close to the other party. Acoustics are good. A little bit of a walk through Times Square. However, I was a bit disappointed in the fact that they sell candy, snacks, and soda like a movie theatre, and where the discarded trash from some of these patrons littered the aisles at the end of the show. First time watching Broadway live and I had a blast! My previous trip to New York, the theaters were still closed so my friend and I weren't able to watch so this time we were both extremely excited. I had no doubt that the show was going to be mindblowing. It was so beautiful, heartwarming, emotional, all of the above..! I just truly enjoyed myself here. My friend also had to get my a souvenir cup and I took it home with me back to California! I loved how they let you have drinks in the theater because I know some theaters do not allow drinks. The other thing - during intermission, RUN to the bathroom. That line gets extremely long super fast , so I was glad that I dashed out as soon as I could to use the bathroom before the last hour of the show. Everyone thought that me choosing Wicked as a first live Broadway show was a great choice. It was honestly a wonderful night.
