First broadway show ever and it was such an amazing experience!!! ended up seeing the great gatsby, and everyone was blown away. The cast is so talented, and the production was perfect. it was also jeremy jordan's last performance ever, and what a way to conclude this chapter. This review is for the theater only, not the shows performed here. Lower level seats need more of an incline. I had a tall people sitting in the seats in front of me and had to constantly strain to see the show. Needs more bathrooms. During the intermission there's an employee in the bathroom telling you as each minute passes but it isn't done nicely, just screaming at everyone to move faster...made add an appropriate amount of toilets so you don't have to berate your customers. Lastly, I sat in the lower level back right corner so I'm not sure if this is experienced in other areas but the heater was extremely loud the entire show. I would avoid that area. read more

Broadway Theater is farther away from Times Square's main theater hub and on this painfully cold day, we had tickets to see The Great Gatsby. I wanted to see this play since it opened. Arriving 20 minutes prior to the curtain call was a walk in the park--no lines or security check. We were whisked right to our seats which happened to be 4th row dead center. Yes, ecstatic! Like most theaters, Broadway is opulent and elegant but where they fell short was with seating. Once again Orchestra seats were not on an incline and the seats were very uncomfortable. As soon as I sat, I felt as though I sank to the floor. Legroom? Nope. I'm petite and felt cramped. Similar to previous shows, we had two tall people in front of us which obstructed the view throughout the show. Moving my head side to side gave me a headache. The production was 5 stars. Jeremy Jordan reprised his role as the original Jay Gatsby. And he was excellent. Aisha Jackson as Daisy was spectacular as was the entire cast. Since Iloved the movie with Leonardo DiCaprio depicting this era, I had to see it. Costumes were colorful and glitzy. Acting,, choreography and singing--superb. Set design was gorgeous. There are only five playhouses, including this, that front on Broadway. Broadway Theater, originally B.S. Moss's Colony Theater, opened in 1924 as a first class film house. (A notable premier was "Steamboat Willie," which introduced the public to Mickey Mouse.) Seating is on the orchestra and mezzanine levels. No elevators, but The Broadway Theater is wheelchair-friendly with an accessible restroom off the lobby. Bathrooms for other theater-goers are located on the lower and mezzanine levels. As I typically have a flexible schedule when I'm in NYC -- an advantage of retirement! -- I scout for 'deals' on the Today Tix site. They frequently offer substantial discounts on seats that aren't the best, but certainly not bad. I sat orchestra right -- extreme right -- in the sixth row. I've found that orchestra seats in these old theaters while tight, offer a bit more legroom than upstairs. Unlike venues that make you queue up outside, Broadway Theater allows patrons to wait in their lobby. (Much appreciated when it's cold, hot or raining.) This week I saw a matinee performance of F. Scott Fitzgerald's "The Great Gatsby." While critics claim the show glossed over the storyline, I thought they did an admirable job for a b'way production. Great sets, costumes, staging, performers. We went to a theatre on Broadway, named...Broadway Theatre to see The Great Gatsby. We arrived about 20 minutes before show time and were ushered into the theatre. This process took place very quickly and we went downstairs to use the restrooms. There were plenty of stalls in the ladies room. It was fun to see that several of the women patrons got the memo to dress in period costume -- lot of sparkly sequins and glittering rhinestones, even a feathered headband or two. Several adult women carried booster seats -- can adults use these -- and maybe I should have picked one up too, because the sightline weren't great. I was constantly shifting in my seat trying to see the stage. The sets were beautiful. Ryan McCartan as Jay Gatsby had a lovely voice and Aisha Jackson as Daisy Buchanan sang beautifully as well. Michael Maliakel as Nick Carraway got the loudest applause the moment he appeared on stage and I thought Elena Ricardo as Jordan Baker had great presence. This was a fun show, although the songs were just okay and since the message of the show is overall a downer, I don't think I'd see this show again. We went to check for tickets around noon the day of the show and luckily, we scored some great rush tickets! Hack: Make sure you go in person for the best prices and ask for rush tickets! They open the doors about 30 minutes before showtime and the line begins prior to that. It was a beautiful day so I didn't mind standing in line. Once you enter, you'll see the bar and they have show specials which are great for about $10. They come in a little souvenir cup. Restrooms are downstairs as well the Gatsby car. Great for photos. It's a beautiful theater. You'll definitely appreciate all the architecture and the lighting. We sat right in the front so I was moved by the whole production. It was one of the best shows I've seen. I laughed. I cried. The Great Gatsby is a must see! The actor who played Diggy on the Liv and Maddie was Gatsby. His singing and acting were 100/10! Pretty nice theater. Came here recently to see Gatsby the musical. Going through the security process was fine. The lines were not too long. The bathrooms were clean and had adequate supplies. The sell refreshments and souvenirs in the main lobby area. We had orchestra seats. My only complaint is the lack of legroom. I do not recommend anyone tall to sit on the ground floor. The Broadway theater is a lovely place to see a play. It has an Italian Renaissance style on the inside, but looks more modern from the outside. Apparently it has been renovated. I saw the great Gatsby there, and I felt that the theater went along with the theme of the play. Small merch purchasing areas and food vendors (both stationary and mobile) are available. They strangely don't have security checks here. Lots of singing, lots of dancing and beautiful sets. Our tickets were $200 each and in a pretty decent section. The theater itself was nice. I felt like the workers there kept everything as organized as possible. Bathrooms were downstairs as well as as bar for drinks and snacks. Another bar was on the main level. There was an area for souvenirs and gifts from the show too. Be aware as 2 drinks can be $68 - but least you get a memorial cup to take home lol. This is the review for the current production at Broadway theater: The Great Gatsby. I came into the city at 10:25AM and was able to snag $25 same day rush tickets to the evening performance of The Great Gatsby. It was quite a steal and quite the view. My seat was orchestra row C at the end of the aisle. Despite it being listed as partial view, I was able to see 90% of the show clearly and never missed a score. For the most part, the main characters remained in the center of the stage. The score was brilliant. Ryan Mccartan's vocal range was incredible and malleable. Costumes were intricate and the stage design, especially the cars, were mesmerizing. read more

Came recently at Broadway Theatre for The Great Gatsby. A beautiful performance but the theater experience left a bit to be desired. I can't quite remember if I've ever been to this theater before for other musicals or plays. People were taking photos on the stairs and it did look beautifully designed. (To me, while I appreciate the beauty and detail, all theaters are pretty similar in that type of architecture and atmosphere.) The people at the door couldn't crack a smile for their lives. We came in a bit early and asked which side of the theater we would need to go through to get to our Orchestra seats. One of the ushers ended up guiding us to the wrong door (not a huge deal, as it was just one door over to the left). The seats are standard Broadway theater seats - SMALL-ish, but reasonably comfortable. I did very much appreciate the proper downslope of the theater floor that truly does allow you to see the stage very clearly and properly from virtually (more or less) any row. During intermission, for the restroom, the staff turned into drill sergeants ordering / guiding people around in a lineup that moves quite quickly, so I appreciated that as well. Now... let's talk about the theater concession stand, particularly the drinks. I'm not entirely sure just how many ounces they were, but my sister got one of the mixed drinks and I got a wine. She paid a whopping EIGHTY DOLLARS. For TWO drinks. Dude. I BEG YOUR PARDON?!?!?! What in the Thespian heck is going on with such prices??? I was SHOOKETH. Again, they definitely were LARGE, bigger than the usual (smaller) cup, which to me, would be the equivalent of a small deli cup of coffee. So I would say MEDIUM size (see photo). Still, that put me off almost entirely. But it at least was enjoyable FWIW. Again, the show was a delight and this isn't a reflection on the cast and crew at all. (There wasn't ever a Broadway show I did not love.) And I will never bitch about the price of the tickets; but the price of their drinks / merch?! Absolutely outrageous! read more

I was curious how the story would translate to the stage -- and while there were strong creative elements, the overall experience was mixed. Visually, the production is a standout. The music was lively and atmospheric, and most of the performances were solid. However, the focus of the story felt oddly distributed. For a show titled The Great Gatsby, Gatsby himself was surprisingly sidelined, making the emotional core of the story feel somewhat muted. The Broadway Theatre itself has a classic charm with an impressive central chandelier, but the logistics were disappointing. Entry was disorganized, ushers were hard to find, and the seating was extremely cramped. As an average-sized person, I found myself physically uncomfortable by the end -- numb feet, knees, and back made it hard to stay fully engaged. Went to my first show on Broadway and it was well worth the money! We had pretty good seats for a Saturday night show and the show was great. I always thought the theatres on Browadway would be super big and grandiose but this felt like a local Theater. Nothing wrong with that but just my expectations were different. It was way more cozy! The singers were good but Mr. Gatsby aka Ryan McCarya was outstanding. Who knew Diggy could sing like that?!? It was honestly such a great show. Once in a lifetime experience for sure. read more

I saw Great Gatsby last Saturday for their 8pm show. I did rush tickets from the theater the day of (got in line at 9:30am for the box office to open at 10am). We got decent upper mezzanine seats for $40 each. Security was fast, seats were spacious enough. As it relates to the show, the Great Gatsby on Broadway was a visual spectacle-stunning sets, dazzling costumes, and an immersive 1920s vibe. Sarah Hyland was charming as Daisy, but overall, the show lacked the emotional depth of the book. While entertaining, it didn't capture the heart and deeper elements of the story. Although it's been awhile since I read the book in high school, I'm reminded of the exploration of the American dream, class/social status, gender roles, and hedonistic culture of the roaring 20s. A good theater. It was definitely the right stage for the great Gatsby play bill. I did have box seats in the upper row, and I was kind of upset that it wasn't sectioned off. It really took away from the experience. But there's only so much they can do to alter these old theaters. The least they could've done was put a rope in front of our chairs to make us feel extra special. Snack options were pretty scarce at this location. I definitely wanted a couple more salty options, but it is what it was. read more

Broadway Theatre is right in the middle of Theater District, just a few blocks up from Times Square Central. Right on Broadway between 52nd & 53rd Streets. This past Sunday night, I made my way uptown from my hotel early in the evening. I've walked up and down Broadway before but don't remember ever watching a show at this venue before. It was my first time to Broadway Theatre. It's a pretty historic theatre but got a major facelift to showcase a very interactive musical called "Here Lies Love". What's different about this theatre is that the entire Orchestra Floor has been transformed to a disco nightclub scene similar to Studio 54. That section became Standing Room Only with prices at a premium because you are the closest to the main stage with very close up views of all the actors and actresses. Personally, I don't prefer standing at a musical or concert. But the closest seats were side view seats just above the floor. With a Front Mezzanine and a Rear Mezzanine up in the risers. I was lucky to win a lottery ticket for Rear Mezzanine which wasn't the best view, but with multiple screens throughout the theater, you're able to see a close ups from here. If you're familiar with Lea Salonga, she made an appearance up until August 19, so I just missed her by one day. The concession stand and restrooms are on the 2nd floor and to get into the Mezzanine, you'd have to climb up to the 3rd floor. I don't recall seeing merchandise sold after the show was over, nor did I have an alcoholic beverage before showtime. Luckily I'm able to get to NYC pretty often that I hope to see this again with a closer seat and a better view of all the performers on stage! read more

Not sure if I'd been to this theater before but happy to be here. Location is perfect, just across the street of E train's 7th Ave stop. The admission processing is quick, easy and on time. Each floor has plenty of restroom stalls since I used different floor before and after the show. The theater decor and lighting are splendid, showing a classic NY vibes. The seat is roomy, loved it whenever there is a space in front of my legs for my pocketbook. The sound is audible as performances were greatly enjoyed. Last but not least, loved the proximity of our seats to Here Lies Love stage because of an incredibly stage design. Had an incredible view of the performers. Hard to tell what the theater is like for regular shows because this play was very unique with a dance floor and standing room tickets in addition to seating from a higher level looking down to the stages and dance floor. I was an hour late, to the show attempting to atleast see half of it as my last day in newyork, I dropped everything to make my way there to even get a ticket as it was not sold out. When I arrived I was immediately ran sacked by a man that watches the stairs, and explained to him I missed my flight, I leave tomorrow so there's no way I can reschedule a ticket and even asked to buy a ticket to watch half of the show. Or even stand in the hall just to watch being a drama student. I was denied everything, not a word of help. Just "its broadway" No you cannot buy a ticket, you can't have access at all. Even asked to stand in the hall to see I was told no you can't stand in the hall for the last half of the show at all even though it was not sold out. Simply just leave, "I don't care that you love art and are a drama student and even made your way here from a missed flight leave" simply told "it's broadway" by a doorman. Was interested in seeing the show even in the hall or any way possible. But now I have no reservations on seeing or going or reccomending this theatre or even broadway at all. Horrible horrible experience. Simply a drama student who was able to arrive moments late. And received no help. Wasn't even declined entrance respectfully Even arrived during intermission. It is imperative to see the difference in theatrical quality and production value of a Broadway show versus all other competitors, local, far, and international; against which you will see there is almost never a competitive comparison. The only thing that could make the shows better, from my estimation, is more accessibility when it comes to pricing. Let's be frank - for those not so inclined toward the arts, shelling over a few hundred bucks for yourself and a date for a minimum 2.5 hour commitment, which is subject to not only vary but not appeal to a large swathe of demographics - is preposterous and only serves to further narrow and define the nature of arts and patrons thereof. The highly convoluted, sometimes bizarre roundabout system as-is in which to acquire discounts is highly off-putting; all the more so to someone who isn't already ensconced or immersed in the arts. Recommendations: Try gathering information on how to acquire these deals at least 2 months in advance of your New York trip, and monitor dates of opening and sales carefully. It's tricky, but if you're in charge of your party, you'll be amazed at how much can be saved. All the same, book at least one show in advance, even if you must pay full or near full price, as some of the methods with which to acquire a discounted ticket are not guaranteed. For a 3 night trip in Manhattan, I had booked one show in advance (Great Gatsby), and then proceeded to utilize discount methods (lottery for Michael Jackson and showing up to the box office right at time of opening for Chicago) to nab tickets to 2 other shows. My very first Broadway musical, located in the Times Square area! So much to see just on one block and from where I'm standing I can see Times Square and so much more! Visiting this theatre was everything that I imagined. We arrived early and waited in the front. We pre-purchased our tickets, but they let people in 45 minutes prior to the show only. If you need to purchase tickets beforehand you're allowed to the window but would have to wait back outside. Right at 45 minutes prior to the show, the doors opened and we were lead to our seating area in the lobby. You will have to wait again because they don't let people in the actual theatre until 30 minutes prior to showing. When it was time, sat on one side of the mezzanine, in row T and could view everything very clearly. The theatre was very clean, full of character and charm. The lights were red to resemble the disco theme musical and the sound was fabulous. Our tickets were about $100 each and we were happy with our purchase. This musical was fabulous, the cast and crew did an amazing job! I loved the crowd interaction and the stage transition. I say everything was fabulous! read more

Saw The Little Prince on a Tuesday night. The theater was half empty. The $69 tickets for Rear mezzanine, Row A seats 111 & 113 were a good deal for the seats. Better to watch aerial performances from the top, not orchestra. Seats in Front mezzanine, center, were the best spots in the theater, but were obviously expensive. Visit the box office to buy tickets without any useless fees that you have to pay if purchasing tickets online. The show was underwhelming. Not many spectacular moments, which I was expecting. Some scenes were touching (no spoilers!), while some were too drawn out. The ending was lovely--imbuing the audience with hope and optimism.
