This is by far one of the safest shops in the middle TN area. I have a 08 VW R32 and I took it many places before here, and this was the ONLY shop to give a fair, honest, and fast repair. WOW. I've never written a Yelp review before, but this place is worthy. I've come here quite a bit since moving to Nashville in 2010, and they NEVER disappoint. I'm not sure what the 1-star rating thought--this shop is simply the best place I have EVER taken my 1998 Passat. I've gone through my moments of thinking I'd have to get a new car due to a maintenance issue. I'd begrudgingly schedule my appointment and fear the worst. Keep in mind that I had been fairly loyal to NTB upon moving here. They'd always manage to find something wrong during an oil change or rotation, and I'd be facing a $700 bill. Thank GOD I found GPO. After dropping my car and going about my day, I'd always receive a call a few hours later with a quote of the issue I brought to them, along with some other things they'd find during the diagnostic. They ALWAYS let me know what is the most urgent issue, and which issues can go a bit of time without immediate repair (as a recent post-grad with a 1998, this is crucial to me). They even got me through my emissions test (which I was almost certain I'd fail). They use authentic, high-quality parts at an extremely reasonable cost. They'd even make sure I had magazines, the remote, and some coffee when I would spend a full day in the waiting room. Today was by far the BEST experience I've had, which is saying a lot since essentially every experience I've had has been amazing. Got to my car yesterday after work and it was dead. No turnover, no display, no lights. I called AAA and got it jumped and thought I was in the clear. Later that night I went back out to my car-DEAD AGAIN. I panicked and started looking at CarMax, expecting the worst. AAA came back this morning and jumped me (again), and told me that something was pulling amps from my battery. I got it running and went straight to GPO at 7:45 WITHOUT AN APPOINTMENT. I know how important it is to have an appointment here as it's extremely busy (due to their AMAZING work), especially when the issue is unknown for the most part. I got in right at 8 and gave them a description of my current debacle, left my car, and went to work. I did not expect to have my car looked at today--the lot was very full. They're very popular which I know, however, I figured it was worth a shot. My car was essentially dead either way-what did I have to lose? Got a call about 3 hours later with a detailed work up of every single thing they found (see...extremely thorough) including small little issues they noticed. They NEVER charge without first letting you know, and always let you know a hierarchy of what NEEDS to get done versus what could be put off for a little bit. Told them to go ahead and fix her up nice, and got another call a few hours later that she was ready! Go to pick her up and they did everything and then some! They even topped off my oil (since I have a tiny oil leak), tightened up my clutch, and fixed a rattling noise on my accelerator--free of charge. Best of all, my car runs like NEW. Every single time I drive off the lot I feel like I have a brand new car. I'm happy to invest my money here because I know it's quality work. Having a 1998 is going to require maintenance, but these guys keep her running like she's fresh off the lot. I might even keep loyal to VW so that I can stay a customer at GPO. Consistent people, consistent work, consistently happy with my car. Trust me on this! read more

GPO has been taking care of my 97 Passat TDI since I got it. Here we are now, a 20 year old car with 369,000 miles, still rockin down the highway. They kept my wife's Audi TT going well past 200,000 miles before we finally sold it. Now they take care of our new Golf. I am so happy to find this excellent repair service. They are honest, professional, and extra polite. I have been in other places who have charged super amounts for diagnosis without repair and did very bad job. Here it is different. I had a steering oil leak, they found it is as simple as some hoses need to be tightened. They did the job and added oil and I was not charged. I had engine oil leak, they went ahead and diagnosed the cause, replaced the gaskets. I paid a reasonable price for the quality of service. I am so happy with their service. They are the best in town, if you have a VW. read more

I took my Audi TT into GP as the clutch went to the floorboard. From reading online, this was an intensive repair if it was the clutch as the transmission has to be removed in order to replace the clutch. Initially, GP thought it was the clutch. I gave them the okay. Upon further review, it was determined by them that it was a hydraulic hose. The difference in cost of the repair was $1800 less! Answer me this; how many shops would have just charged for the full amount knowing that a labor intensive job would be big profits? Not GP; go there.....you will be happy you did! read more

I've been taking my 2000 Beetle to Jerry and the guys at German Performance since 2008 and I don't know why I haven't written an outstanding review for them before now!! They have always taken good care of my car, presented me with reasonable prices, and fast service. Yesterday was the pinnacle of service, though. My serpentine belt had been slipping for weeks (I didn't take the time to go get it looked at!!) and finally the belt tensioner broke on my way home from work. I called them at 4:15, got there by 4:30, and Jerry had a used belt and tensioner installed by 5pm. Bottomline, I trust the people and the work done at German Performance. The people who work here are GENUINELY kind and honest! Angie, working the front office, was so sweet, lovely, and easy to talk to and returned the message I had left promptly after I had left it. The mechanic Corey, working on my car, brought me back to explain the work he was looking at doing (a great way to learn more about your car btw!) and was extremely patient with all of my questions. He repaired faulty work done by another shop and said I could call over anytime if I had questions, even if it was while or about having work done at another shop. I HIGHLY recommend working with this company if you drive any of the foreign cars they work on. I drive a 2004 Beetle Convertible and going here for service also takes away some the "sighs" we VW-drivers people often get from mechanics,etc. that realize they will be working on a VW : ) Hope this helps! read more

Took my car in at the end of August for a routine break fix. I left resolving a few issues with my breaks and alternator only to then find out I had a mysterious issue with my turbo on my VW TDI Jetta. I wasn't having an issue with it prior to bringing it in so this seemed suspicious to me. After waiting for 2 weeks to hear back from them about getting the parts to fix this "issue" I found out that they never actually ordered the part...at all. I chose to take my business else where and come to find out the technician who "fixed" my Jetta had removed the vacuum hose connecting to my turbo and stuffed it with a T-valve and then left the other half disconnected so that it wouldn't function properly. Mind you I drove around with my car like this for over 2 weeks. It barely accelerated over 45 mph making it EXTREMELY difficult to drive more than around town and feel safe. DO NOT I REPEAT DO NOT USE THEM! There is no way that my hose magically had this happen, it was intentional and completely explains why they were so adamant about me ordering and ENTIRELY new turbo from Volkswagen. That's over $1300 for the turbo alone, what a scam. I'm so disappointed that they lied to my face when they knew that I was stuck in Nashville on my own without any other help. read more

I have had the worst luck with foreign cars in the past but when I came across a 2006 VW Passat with low miles and and awesome price, I couldn't pass it up. I had never owned a VW but have always liked them. I knew buying a used car would come with its share of issues but thought maybe this time it would be different. I only wanted an VW expert to work on the car and I came across GPO on the internet after a search and thought they sounded like a reputable shop and decided to check them out....SO GLAD I DID! Nate and the other guys have done great work on my car and at very fair and reasonable prices. They were always honest, upfront and patient with my many car questions. I have had oil changes, engine and transmission work done and my car runs smooth! This team is professional and my car is always repaired within a few days. The owner even took the time to call once and resolve an issue and he vowed to make it right...and he did just that!
