Mchenry Illinois location. Brought my car in for minor scratch repair due to being swiped in a parking spot. Picked up car, they didn't file down the filler before they painted it so you could see a huge bulge. There was no missing the repair area. It looked worse than the damage. They offered to make it right. Got a call telling me the car was ready 2 days later. Went to pick it up. The quarter panel had no gloss! It was dull. Who looked at the car and decided it was finished? Left the car there for attempt #3. Picked it up a day later. It was shiny again, but the the original repair wasn't corrected. Picked up car. Had another shop redo the repair. I wouldn't recommend this location to anyone. They seem lazy. I was told by the owner that he could not see where the repair was made. WHAT!!! You're the boss and you CANT SEEEEE how f'ing BAD your employees and shop-work is? That dude should NOT be the boss. They charged the insurance $2800 and did $150 worth of work. The new shop had to completely undo Gerber McHenry's repairs. Steer clear. They dont care enough to actually look at the repair from different angles. read more

Avoid this place at all costs. We had a State Farm covered accident and they gave us Gerber in McHenry as a shop they have a contract with. We called for an estimate appointment, which was available the next day. We got there at the appointed time and we waited a few minutes for the estimator. The estimator looked at our car and then sprang on us that this Gerber was booked until into April. Would have been nice to be too that at time of appointment making. Then he said he had other Gerber locations who could get the car done "right away." When I asked what "right away" meant, he waffled, saying that would depend on parts availability and any hidden damage. I said I understood that but wanted to know if we were talking a week, a month, or a year. He said, "I cannot be sure." I the asked if he could not get ahold of Lexus to find out if the bumper part was available. At this point, he walked away saying "We are done here." I asked whether he was saying he did not want my business and he shook his head yes. I guess the message I was being given was that we give our car to Gerber and we get it back when they are good and ready. We then called a competitor down the street who said to come by as we were in the neighborhood. We got there and the experience was 1000% better. While it took a while to get the estimator, we were treated with respect, given a written estimate, told it would take 3-4 days (subject to hidden damage which I understand), and were given an appointment date and time for the repair. read more

I set up an appointment to have a chip in my car. They came to do the repair on July 23, 2020. I received a call from their tech saying that the windshield was cracked during the repair and I would be contacted for replacement. The original chip was smaller than a dime. The crack is a foot long. I was not contacted, but through multiple calls was put in contact with a rep. On multiple occasions I was told it was being taken care of. Long story short it is note November 13, 2020 and is still not fixed. Zero stars. read more

And the insurance company comes back with 709 for a new Total very odd and this all happens within an hour very questionable practices I don't know what they thought they were doing but I would not go to them at all I can only imagine how many other people this in has happened to Total disappointment in both companies insurance company and body shop would definitely would not recommend either one read more

I had my SUV repaired at Gerber after I was hit in the side. The work appeared to be very good when I picked up the car, they had even replaced a door and everything looked very straight. About 6 weeks after I'd had the car back some of the repaired areas started to rust which was very disappointing. To their credit, Gerber did repaint the rusted areas, but it never should have rusted in the first place. I'd try and find a better caliber auto body business for my next repair. read more

Gerber was one of two body shops offered to me by my insurance company adjuster. I was recently involved in a small fender-bender and had some paint/body damage on my rear bumper, and also needed my muffler re-aligned (it was knocked a little crooked and was rattling). I went in and met with Mark (manager). He thoroughly examined my car, and I pointed out what the damage from the accident was. He took pictures to send to the insurance company. I also noted some old damage from a hit and run that I never claimed (the teenage girls who rear-ended me on the street drove off and ran a red light to avoid my getting their tag #... police never found them, of course). He said he would fix that, too (awesome), as well as a key mark on my rear trunk (awesome x 2). I asked him if he could change a tail light bulb on my car if I brought him the bulb, and he said he would do it at no charge (awesome x 3). He also offered to put on my hub caps for me (I've been without for 2 years, since I've had a super hard time trying to get them on due to fear of busting the little prongs). Awesome x 4. He typed up an estimate really quickly, and told me it would take up to 3 days for the work to be complete. I went out of town for a week, and during that time Mark played phone tag with me to set up the body work for when I returned. I went in the day after I got back, and my car was ready less than a day and a half later. Literally: I dropped my car off at 1pm on Monday, and I got a call on Tuesday saying it was being painted. It was ready Wednesday morning at 10:30. The end result is GORGEOUS! My rear bumper and trunk are flawless. They even vacuumed/cleaned the inside of my car, which itself is a bit of a feat since I'm not the tidiest person. I DID have to bring it back today because my rear muffler was rattling; it ended up being a loose screw that was fixed in a few minutes. No biggie. They were again really nice and told me to come in whenever I said I could. And, of course, I kept forgetting to bring in those hub caps, and I was told to just bring them in whenever, and they'll put them on for me. I would definitely recommend this Gerber Collision and Glass; they were nice, professional, personable, and best of all, did a fantastic job in less time than they stated. read more

I recently suffered a car incident. I filed a claim with my insurance. The insurance personnel was extraordinarily and caring. I went to their location in Mundelein, however, for convenience, I decided to take my vehicle to this location in McHenry. The staff in Mundelein was wonderful. I was expecting a similar experience at this location, however, that was not the case. General Manager Rick Meyer was absolutely rude, disrespectful, and racist. It was such an awful experience from the moment I arrived to this location. Rick Meyer was almost screaming at me, questioning everything that I was saying, as if he was the one paying for the repairs of my vehicle. Rick Meyer would rudely ask me to repeat myself and in return he would continue to yell at me. I noticed the difference between myself and other "white" clients. I never have felt that my race made such a difference with my treatment as this experienced made me feel. This place should feel ashamed of having staff members such as Rick Meyer, who make their customers feel less worthy because of their race. He said that they had many other customers to deal with first and I would have to wait. I do not even know how long it will take them to fix my car. I hope that at least they are able to properly fix all the issues with my vehicle. Also, most of the staff was not wearing a face mark nor social distancing. Rick Meyer was so close to me when he was yelling at me and he was not even wearing a face mask. read more

I was recommended to Gerber by my insurance company. I was originally given a time estimate of 14 days to complete. I was pleasantly surprised with how quickly the work was actually done, 5 days! YES. Great place. I was worried come winter two chips in my windshield would turn in to a crack. Bob Kelly (repairman) came out to fill the cracks. Turns out they were pits and nothing for me to worry. I ask "Are you sure?" He must have sensed how scared I was and he filled both pits (FREE of Charge). One of the nicest men I have met in a long while. After he left I call Gerber and spoke with John Kachnik to sing praises of an employee and I meet with another very delightful man. I am more that 100% pleased with the treatment I received and most definitely should I ever need repair or windshield this is the place I will go. Definitely give them a call I would imagine any work they do would meet high praise. read more
