He flew in from NYC 4 days in advance to get everything prepared and managed the challenging logistics in a timely manner. We were astounded by the amount of work and planning he did for our wedding. Communicating with Rob ahead of time was easy and seamless. In all our emails, he was always prompt to respond. As this was our first experience hiring a caterer, he helped walk us through the whole process, from providing a budget breakdown and utensil options, to curating a menu for our guests based on our preferences, diet restrictions, and budget. He was very professional in accommodating our tight wedding schedule, and made sure all our guests were served food at peak temperature and freshness. Chef Rob prepared us an incredible range of dishes in a 5-course meal, covering everything from a fancy sit-down salad and soup, to a more casual buffet hors d'oeuvres and family style entrée. The sweet & sour pork rib was A HIT!!! Not only did it taste like authentic Chinese food, but it was even better than ribs I had back in China. It almost made me cry of homesickness. The dessert was a perfect sweet ending to our wedding dinner. As someone very particular about food, I found every dish to be beyond delicious. Chef Rob was phenomenal. It wasn't just the great food (many guests asked asked for his contact info); it was his accommodation to our individual needs and timing, as well as his professional service from setup to delivery. We were a party of 6 adults and a toddler. Our party ordered apps, we got the deviled eggs and the fried calamari. These things took 45 minutes to get to the table. Serving someone deviled eggs shouldn't take 45 minutes, and the calamari was frozen, so we are unsure why the opening of the service was so slow. It was almost as if the chef was deviling the eggs right at that time and for the amount of time we waited she would've have to have been cutting and battering a squid in the flesh which I know was not happening in there. Also, just to note the restaurant wasn't full. There were probably four other tables with diners. At this point, our toddler is starting to get increasingly restless, as it has been an hour and change, and the entrées have not been delivered yet at this time. My husband and I are taking turns to go into the lobby to distract her and get her moving so she wouldn't have a meltdown in the restaurant. We keep inquiring about where the dinner was and we're told several times "it's on its way" or "it's coming soon". Flash forward to 7:30pm. Our entrées were scattered arriving to the table, I asked the waitress where are my child's grilled cheese was and she said that she had forgot to put it in. (She did say she was sorry but when you have a hangry child sorry doesn't cut it) We waited all this time and the food for our baby's meal didn't exist. I expressed great displeasure to the server and told her I needed her to box up mine and my husband's meals as soon as they arrived to the table, so we could leave to go deal with our toddler at home because she had reached her breaking point due to the long wait and lack of FOOD IN A RESTAURANT. We waited for our dinner service for two hours and the quality did not justify the long wait. Water logged canned green beans (the kind you get in a school or prison cafeteria),flavorless mashed potatoes, what looks and tastes like stove top stuffing... and the worst part about the whole experience, was not receiving proper customer service for this terrible experience. Me and my husband didn't even get to eat our meals at the table in the actual restaurant, which we were still charged for fully. My mother-in-law told me they comped the grilled cheese from the check (and again, I wouldn't know because I had to leave) but comping a $10 item that you forgot to put in, in the first place is not enough for the bad experience overall. The sides were little better: bland, watery and fibrously chewy beans with a helping of cole slaw swimming in thinly seasoned mayo. Only the cornbread was respectable -- but they only served up a 1" cube of this with each meal (seriously?!) Ok, so street fairs are not restaurant cookery and should be judged less harshly (hence the two stars) -- and I get that this is a catering outfit that probably mostly does fund raisers for local municipalities, fire departments and churches -- but hey -- at least serve up edible Q if you represent yourself as flamboyantly skilled as these folks did.
