This location is better than Georgetown, believe it or not. Skip the line, come here. I know, you know, we all know Georgetown cupcakes are decent. Sometimes the hype is worth it, what can I say. Just look at this picture. It's a cupcake. I gave it 4/5, because I want more.
The cupcakes here are delicious and moist. They have a large variety of cupcakes so you can choose the type of cupcake you want. I really like the caramel, coconut and strawberry cupcakes but you can't go wrong with any of them. There really isn't space to sit so you need to take the cupcakes to go. I liked that there wasn't a long wait and the service was good.
Overall, the Georgetown Cupcake in Bethesda is a high 3* experience and certainly one worth visiting for a delicious cupcake. The shop could easily be a 4* if not for the decline in quality which is too considerable to overlook. The decline is in their presentation, attention to detail, and overall quality. That said, these cupcakes are as good, if not better than your average bakery cupcake. Again, the 3* is because the cupcake quality once was arguably most competitive in the region. They do offer traditional flavors which are available on specific days of the week and seasonal flavors that are themed. If you want a specific traditional flavor it is best to arrive early before they sell out. The same goes for their seasonal flavors. Customer service is OK. Street parking does exist, however, considering this is a busy street the parking along the storefront is almost always occupied. There is garage parking in the area down the street from the bakery. I will continue to visit when in the area. Give them a try.
I love cupcakes , however, through the years , this place has disappointed me. The service is good, no complaints, there but the shop is so small. It's always cramped.. The door can easily smack someone waiting on the inside! Their menu has expanded, and it would be nice if some of the menu items had a short description, so we don't have to keep asking the staff what's in this or that. The taste, they changed the recipe and it doesn't taste the same. The cupcakes taste more artificial and more like it came from a Betty Crocker cake mix. What chapped my @ was when my cupcakes were placed in their iconic pink box, and they were tilted. Like seriously? So yeah. Unless someone else is treating. It's a no for me. I rather go to Sprinkles.
I picked up my cupcakes and checked them in the store. When I opened the box, they were in terrible condition--upside down, melted, and stuck together, looking like a complete mess inside the box. I immediately asked for a replacement, but the manager did not come out to assist me. I eventually had to leave because I was parked directly in front of the store. I paid $98 for two boxes of cupcakes that were completely ruined and unusable. I had planned to gift them to my office, but now my plans are ruined.
Believe me or not, but I think the Bethesda location has better tasting cupcakes than the location in Georgetown. Most of the time I order my cupcakes from this location. I'm a cupcake fanatic and have been eating their cupcakes for years. Time and time again, the Bethesda location proves to be superior. My recommendations are any cheesecake flavor, the red velvet, and my favorite months for specialized cupcakes are February and October (for their red velvet flavors and their pumpkin!!).
Georgetown Cupcakes are still my favorite even though the rest of the world seemed to have moved on to other bakeries. I'm still a die hard fan of their red velvet cupcake and continue to order boxes to gift to family and friends on special occasions.
Georgetown cupcake is a classic staple of the dmv area. The cake is fluffy as always. The flavor is distinct and shines through the cake well. The frosting is rich and thick. If you're not a frosting person, these cupcakes aren't for you. There is quite a bit of frosting, but it compliments the cake well. I like that for the whole month of February there are heart decorations! The service surprised me a little as when I opened my box there was a smoshed finger print in the frosting of two of my cupcakes. Probably when the server went to grab them they got the frosting. It was a bit upsetting as the most exciting part of the cupcake is the aesthetic appeal.
Picked up my cupcakes and opened the box and they just looked like a mess, not sure if they were dropped or tilted too much when going into the bag but definitely should have checked them before leaving the store. So sad and not suitable for gifting.
This is a very convenient location, located in high traffic downtown area, convenient parking garage right across the street. Service: efficient, line moves fast Cupcakes: delicious, it has been our favorite in comparison to all other cupcake shops, buttery bottom and creamy top. Price: not the cheapest, on the pricy side, but...you get what you pay for. Inside the shop: clean , tiny place, can get crowded with people who waiting for orders instead of order ahead just to pick up. Highly recommend by @WineDinenVacay
My first experience with Georgetown cupcakes was when my wifes best friend sent us a dozen to us where we lived in California to celebrate the birth of our first child 11 years ago. Fast forward to today and we live close by and were out with some friends and stepped in. The shop is little on the small side so I could see it getting crowded easily. The cupcake selection was extensive. So much so we spent a lot of time talking with the guy behind the counter regarding the difference between the 4 different types of chocolate cupcakes. We got a bunch and I sampled the Red Velvet, Key Lime and the Lavender Earl Grey. The Key Lime was my favorite flavor wise. Also the cupcakes were little on the small side compared to some of the other bakeries that we have been to in the area. Overall the experience was good and we would probably swing back in if we were in the area.
I used to be a regular at the Georgetown Cupcakes in Boston before the pandemic. I was sad to see the business had downsized but was ecstatic to visit again during a trip to DC. We decided to go to the Bethesda location instead of the Georgetown location thinking the parking situation would be more favorable. Of course, the street was blocked off for an event taking place the next day. I decided to get a half dozen cupcakes, not knowing the next time I'd be able to make it back to either location. I ordered two vanilla2, a vanilla birthday, a red velvet, a chocolate ganache, and a salted caramel. I couldn't quite remember which vanilla was my favorite but I went with my gut and got two of the cream cheese icing variety. I remembered enjoying the other flavors before and went out on a limb to try the salted caramel. The cupcakes were good. However, they did not quite rise to the level of deliciousness I remembered. And the chocolate ganache and the salted caramel were completely forgettable. In all fairness, it is hard to compete with a memory and something as simple as a change in elevation can affect baking results. I shared these cupcakes with first time Georgetown customers and they were very impressed. Overall, I'd give the vanillas and the red velvet 5 stars as they still rose above the quality of cupcake you can find at other bakeries and I'd be willing to try other flavors.
Georgetown Cupcakes are delicious and moist. The icing if rich with the perfect balance of sweetness not overpowering the cupcake. There's typically a line (short or long; depending on the location and time of day you go. The customer service is great and the line typically goes quick. All the cupcakes are highly enjoyable. ORDER: * Chocolate S'mores * Chocolate cupcake with a s'more flavor icing. I was told this is similar to the hot chocolate cupcake which was my original pick however they were all out. * Red Velvet * My favorite red velvet cupcake in the chocolate family was amazing. The icing tastes like a cross between buttercream and cream cheese icing. It's hard to say; nonetheless it was yummy. * Chocolate * OK, so clearly another chocolate cupcake; what difference can you possibly have and why choose a plain cupcake. Hear me out; a classic chocolate cupcake is pure bliss. This plain chocolate cupcake with buttercream icing was great. A chocolate lovers dream. SERVICE: The service was great. The gal at the register had a good handle on he flow considering their system was down requiring manually entry of debit/credit card transactions vs cash transactions. Despite the system being down, the staff was able to navigate through customers fairly well working under the pressure of the occasional questions from a customer regarding the system being down. Tip: always carry cash so you don't miss out on a sweet treat due to a system outage and not wanting to provide your card information manually. LOCATION/FACILITY: Bethesda location on Bethesda Avenue PARKING: Parking garage and street parking SEATING: Indoor and outdoor PAYMENT METHOD: Card or cash
I've tried nearly every cupcake on the menu with over 50+ flavors since the shop opened 15 years ago. The cupcakes are the perfect size, not too small or big and relatively cheap at $3.95. While the buttercream and cream cheese flavors are sickly sweet with a thick mound of frosting and the cake and cheesecake can be quite dense, the savory flavors like caramel and mocha and the fudge brownie cheesecakes are exceptionally good! My favorites: - Lavender - Salted Caramel Chocolate Chip - Mocha Chocolate Chip - Cotton Candy - Toffee Crunch - Salted Caramel Macchiato - Chocolate Coconut Caramel Fudge - Butterscotch Waffle Cone - Key Lime Pie Cheesecake - Caramel Brownie Fudge Cheesecake - Chocolate Brownie Cheesecake - Peanut Butter Brownie Cheesecake - Chocolate Truffle Cheesecake - Chocolate Hazelnut Truffle - Chocolate Ganache Caramel Swirl - White Chocolate Peppermint Cheesecake - Coffee Toffee Chocolate Chip Cheesecake - Salted Caramel Chocolate Chip Cheesecake - Chocolate Caramel Cookie Crunch - Chocolate Mint Crunch - Halloween Surprise - Chocolate Caramel Swirl - Chocolate Salted Caramel - Chocolate Coconut Caramel Fudge - Peanut Butter Ganache Chocolate Chip - Apple Cheesecake - Santa's Chocolate Chip - S'mores Cheesecake - Chocolate Mint Crunch - Raspberry Cupcake - Raspberry Chocolate Chips - Raspberry Cheesecake - Lemon Marshmallow - Strawberry Marshmallow Cupcake - Strawberry Shortcake - Strawberry Lava Fudge Cupcake - Christmas Cookie Least Favorite Cupcakes - Chai Latte - Pumpkin Spice - Cookies or Creme - Cookies or Creme Cheesecake - Coffee Cookies or Creme Cheesecake - Strawberry Sundae - Mocha Chocolate Chip Cheesecake - Peanut Butter Marshmallow - Lemon Lavender - Sticky Toffee Pudding - Gingerbread Cheesecake The store is pretty compact and there's very limited seating. There are no restrooms. It's more of a quick in/out shop. Walk-ins are welcome with hardly any lines and the shop usually doesn't quickly sell out of cupcakes. You can cut to the front of the line as a benefit/perk of an online order. read more
I had to try some of their summer flavors. The Lemon Blueberry, Strawberry Shortcake and Butterscotch Waffle Cone Cheesecake were absolutely delicious! For each - flavors complemented each other. GC can be hit or miss for me; but they did good with these flavors :-) I was happy I got to try them before they disappeared from the menu (lol). read more
This was our first time visiting this location. The shop was small but charming, with a cozy atmosphere. The service was adequate, but not particularly welcoming; there was no greeting upon entering. As the only customers at first, we found the environment quiet, with two other patrons arriving shortly after us. We placed our order, paid for the cupcakes, and left. There was little to no seating inside the shop. We sampled the cupcakes on the bench seating near the shop. We chose the carrot cake and red velvet varieties. Both cupcakes were enjoyable, with the standout feature being the cream cheese frosting--creamy, slightly tangy, and authentic. The carrot cake cupcake was a bit dry around the edges but moist in the center. It contained carrot pieces, yet differed from traditional carrot cakes, offering a more subtle flavor. Overall, the experience was pleasant. read more

I arrived the last day of April to snag my all time favorite cupcake flavor here which is hummingbird! Service was friendly. The cupcake which is banana, pineapple and walnut flavored with walnut and cream cheese frosting is my favorite although just a smidge dry this time. It's a flavor I look forward to all year! I was a little surprised that the small cupcakes are now $4.19 including tax. And oh well, I guess there's inflation! read more
The best! The best! The best Cupcakes. So while in the neighborhood after a great lunch we wanted dessert and landed on Georgetown cupcakes, No better choice right? So we walked into this beautiful shop it is and right away you can smell the delicious cupcakes, that's when you know you can't just eat one, you gotta get a few. So many delicious choices and it makes you want them all, so I went with a few flavors that I know you can't go wrong with, Red velvet! Chocolate birthday cake, cookies and cream, let me just say.... Amazing, and along with the taste of the cupcakes the customer service was great as well. Thank you Georgetown Cupcakes we will definitely be back. read more

Over the years, I've ordered cupcakes here both online and in store several times and had only positive experiences. They are consistently fresh, not too heavy or sweet, and just absolutely delicious. Their winter holiday specials are amazing too (especially the peppermint ones). Definitely my favorite cupcakes of all time. I would get them all the time if I was closer, and if they were a bit cheaper - but every time my family gets them, I forget how much I love Georgetown Cupcake. This location is also pretty convenient in a large outdoor shopping area. read more
Picked up some delicious cupcakes for my husband's 40th birthday. The staff greeted me with a warm welcome and my order was already ready to go since I ordered online. Smooth pickup with no wait time. Place is cute and clean in the perfect spot in Bethesda row. I love these cupcakes! Can't go wrong with them. So many flavors. read more

Cupcakes are delicious! I tried a few of the cupcakes and my favorite was their chocolate. The cupcakes were very airy in texture and perfectly moist. I really enjoyed trying this with my family. The service is fast and very polite. Only thing that might steer you away is the price but it's worth it in my opinion. Not getting this every time so it was a treat. Also get there early so you can beat the wait! read more
Love Georgetown Cupcakes! If there wasn't one in Bethesda, I would probably never go. So this location is very convenient. Depending on when you go there may be a line. So if you order online the day prior you won't have to wait in line. They have set flavors that are available all the time, monthly flavors and daily flavors. So check out their menu so you can plot on what you want to order. The vanilla, salted caramel, chocolate and red velvet are my favorite. But I haven't had one that I flat out disliked. Some people say its too much icing on the cupcakes but if you have a serious sweet tooth you will be unbothered. read more

Still one of my favorite cupcake places in the DMV. There are days when I want to indulge in these sweet treats and GTC delivers. Although the frosting is still a little too sweet for me, it's still pretty good. My favorites are the red velvet, vanilla and vanilla and chocolate. You have to preorder the cupcakes now which makes life easier as you don't have to wait in their long lines (pre-covid). You pick up your cupcakes during your pickup time window. Make sure to join their mailing list as they have 20% coupons once in a while. read more

Been here three times in the last month (don't judge me, lol) and each time the cupcakes were moist and delicious. I'm a fan of the Cookies n' Creme, Salted Caramel, and Chocolate Peanut Butter Cheesecake flavors -- though my family tried other options that they similarly enjoyed. Parking in Bethesda Row is always a pain, but it's been worth it every time to stop in this place! read more

This place is legit! Glad that I didn't end up going to the one in DC proper since I heard there is always a line there. But came to this location instead and was not disappointed. These cupcakes were all the rage a few years back and I can see why... they're really freaking good. Ordered a simple vanilla cupcake with chocolate frosting and it may have been one of the best I've ever had. The cupcake is a bit dense but really delicious and the frosting is rich and decadent. My only complaint is that I didn't get the red velvet cupcake as well (the one that they are famous for!) read more
I'm thinking I went on an off day, because there is no way the cupcake I had was "THE Georgetown cupcake." I've heard about this place for years- everyone knows about this famous cupcake shop. First, the cupcakes available didn't really "speak" to me. I'm a chocolate girl, and was hoping for more of a unique chocolate flavor instead of the many different versions of gingerbread- like a cookies and cream, something with nuts/ coconut, just a little more elevated. I also don't like peppermint flavored things. I ended up going with the gluten free lava. The cake part was dry, and lacking in flavor. It wasn't distinctly a chocolate flavor. The icing was a confusing mixture of textures and flavor- as if there were two types of icing on top. read more

This was our first visit. We ordered on line the December birthday dozen assortment for $36. Each cupcake is a unique flavor and is specified on line. When we picked up the order, it is already boxed in a shopping bag. We assumed the flavors stated on line were in the box. When we arrived home, the cookies and cream cupcake was not in the box and was substituted with a coconut cupcake that no one in my family liked. Lessons learned - Ask the bakery employee to open the boxed order to assure the correct cupcake flavors are included. This is an expensive purchase that we got for a special occasion. If we were to return, the best cupcake flavor to try is cheesecake. read more

Love GTC, we have been eating their cupcakes for a while and it might show. Lol Durning this pandemic, you can only preorder the cupcakes. I ordered one day on a whim. I was at the hair salon down the block, I was able to place an order and pick it up within the next hour. The staff wore mask, very limited people can go inside at a time. The taste is delicious, as always. The care, safety, customer service durning the Time of Corona, has been perfect. I'm so happy my favorite cupcake/dessert place is striving and thriving. I'm very happy that they are about business but also truly care about their staff and customers too. read more

Every time I drive by this place, there's a line out the door. Well, now I know why. Only one customer allowed in at once. So make sure to come prepared with with best coat, hat, scarf and glances you've got. I was only third in line, but it was a solid ten minute wait. My first experience with Georgetown Cupcake was actually their location in New York. And I remember being totally smitten. Enough so that I would return on every visit. But I have to say it's no longer a favorite. They sell out of flavors pretty quick, which is a bummer. And of the six I tried, most all of the chocolate cake ones were definitely on the dry side. However, the s'mores cheesecake was pretty good. And the peanut butter icing was super delicious. I'm not sure. Maybe I got the wrong flavors at the wrong time? However, the girls working were friendly and efficient! read more
