Tucked into The Bradley Center is a family style bakery that makes some pretty legit donuts! A box of four and a cronut cost me $13.50 and if you pay with cash or debit you are spared the 3% charge. The donuts were full bodied but fluffy! The same five donuts would cost me double in DC! Five took the whole box which had a nice, clear window! The other pastries intrigued me as well as I scanned all around trying to soak it all in! Black and White cookies, Linzer and Hamentashen cookies were available! A whole counter had sugar cookies that were decorated. They can print custom cookies for your next event! Great prices and love the freshness of the items! The Babkas look to me like danish rings and were all sold out when I appeared in the evening! I thought the cronut was good but a tad sweet for me. The size is a great value for the price. They also have a raisin pumpernickel loaf. The menu also had a cranberry rye. If you need your loaves sliced, don't forget to ask! The classic glazed donut was light, fluffy and melt in the mouth yummy! OMG! The jelly donut is stuffed to the hilt with raspberry jelly! A hefty and heavy donut because they don't give you a tiny squirt of jelly. Once you eat it, you get jelly in every bit and oh so light! If ever in Bethesda make the trek! Do not go here. I have been a loyal customer at breads unlimited for years. I get bread pretty much weekly and freeze it. I picked up bread yesterday and called because there was blue and white swirling the loaf: mold. They asked me to bring it in so I did. I arrived and the woman working there (curly hair) accused me of lying in front of the whole bakery. She said that the bread is not from yesterday and accused me of bringing old bread and claiming the new bread was moldy. She would not fully refund me. Being sold moldy bread is one thing, being accused of lying and denying to remedy the issue after I came back on an expensive load of bread to a loyal and kind customer is another. I'm spreading the word to advocate for the mistreatment. read more

Cakes, donuts and muffins, OH MY! I was having lunch with a buddy and on my way home I said I was going to stop for a treat. He recommended this place and wow, I don't know how it wasn't already on my radar! It's in a plaza with a parking lot and free spaces (thank goodness), so I was able to walk in without much worry. I will say though, that it was lunchtime so it was quite quite busy haha. As soon as I stepped inside, a rush of sweet aromas caught my attention. So many lovely treats were on display... it was almost overwhelming. I saw something that I rarely see -- cronuts. CROISSANT DONUTS. And not only was that a thing, but it had a chocolate drizzle! That was a definite. I was struggling to decide a second item until I saw them replenish a tray of black & white cookies. They looked so fresh and tasty I couldn't resist. I ate both when I got home. The cronut had tasty flaky layers with the sweet glaze that I loved. And the cookie was melting in my mouth. I... I enjoyed it all so much I could've cried. Must return and try more! read more

My favorite bakery. Among my personal favorites are the donuts, muffins, cookies and bread. The raised donuts and cronuts are THE BEST around. The cake donuts are solid. Saturday 11/11/2023 The customer service was some of the best I've ever experienced, it was amazing. The woman working was very helpful and enthusiastic in assisting me with what I should order by throughly explaining all the baked items I had questions about. I ended up getting a Cronut $3.50, a glazed donut $1.85, 3 Cinnamon buns $2.50 per bun, and a carrot cake slice $8. The Cronut is a croissant donut and it was definitely my favorite item I got: airy and great texture & taste. I would definitely come back just for this item. The glazed donut was decent but nothing special. The cinnamon buns were what I was most hype for but it ended up being underwhelming: the bread wasn't moist and it had more of a dry/stale taste. The carrot cake slice was surprisingly better than I expected and was pretty good BUT $8 for a single slice is pretty expensive. Overall, my experience was great: amazing customer service with a wide variety of delicious baked goods. I would definitely recommend and return to this bakery. read more

Very bad experience. Bought rye bread here which was fine but also bought two muffins (one double chocolate and one lemon poppyseed) which looked good but when my daughter and I tasted them, they tasted like soap. We threw them in the trash because we couldn't bear eating them, they were so gross. I called and spoke to the owner who had a "the customer is always wrong attitude." She said nobody else had complained and I'd have to bring the muffins in before she would do anything. No way to run a business. How about at least an apology if not a refund? So it's been a while since I've stopped in here, but I was in the neighborhood so thought why not pick up a loaf of sourdough. First, the highlights: they've remodeled the place and it looks great - nice bright cases, beautiful bread shelving and bright menus. Staff are still friendly and pleasant. Now the downsides: the sourdough loaf was significantly smaller than it used to be and nowhere as tasty (I won't be returning), and the Oreo cupcake I bought was really dry and disappointing. read more

This spot has the most DELICIOUS donuts. Oh my goodness! We arrived in the late afternoon and were pleasantly surprised to see a wide selection offerings. Cake donuts, yeast donuts, filled donuts, sprinkle donuts -- and that was just the donuts! There was also a wide array of breads, cookies and other pastries available. A huge assortment! The staff were friendly and very helpful. It took us a little bit of time to decide which types of donuts to buy and we were never rushed-- simply encouraged to order as many tasty options as we liked! The donuts were very affordable (just over $2 each). The donuts were fresh and full of flavor. We tried many different kinds -- frosted, sprinkled and filled. Each filled donut had a lot of filling and tasted like it was made by hand, in the bakery. I can't wait to try all the other baked goods at this spot! This place is hamentachen heaven. They must have more varieties than any other bakery in at least a 50 mile radius, and not just at purim. They aren't cheap but definitely look amazing. It looks like 1/4 o the display is hamentachen but they have tons of other stuff including bread, bagels, cookies, cakes, quiches, an entire display of donuts, streusel, etc. They have more selection on weekends so go on weekends for best variety. They have pretzels but they are on the back wall so easy to miss if you aren't looking for them. No seating but they also own Edith's Pizza 2 doors down so you can eat there. read more

I've been looking for a decent mom and pop donut shop since I moved to DC several years ago. Looks like I might have found that elusive place. I've now visited twice. My first visit was probably closer to a 3.5 star visit. The customer service was excellent, the food looked great, however, the donut was doughy near the cream indicating it wasn't quite cooked. I thought this likely to be an anomaly and noted the place was slammed just before thanksgiving. I thought I should give it a second chance and am glad I did! On my second visit I ordered 3 donuts: Bavarian cream, mini jelly, and Boston cream. All were fresh, cooked perfectly, and delicious! Breads Unlimited is extremely generous with its filling. I hate to be disappointed from lack of cream in a donut, no worries about that here! Breads Unlimited has many other baked goodies. I look forward to eating all of them. Their pies in particular are hefty and impressive looking. Most people in line during my first visit were ordering pies for thanksgiving. Note: if you plan on ordering a thanksgiving pie, do it the week before because they can only commit to so many orders and the pies are very popular! Several years ago, I worked in an office down the road from Breads Unlimited, and I would stop in for a doughnut or pastry once in a while. I stopped working in the area about, oh, 7 years ago, and I think I basically forgot that this place existed. Recently, I've been driving by it every few weeks for work, and I am so glad that I've rediscovered it. Have you ever had a jelly doughnut? I'm not talking about that chewy, mealy thing you got at that chain place with no filling. I'm talking about a real jelly doughnut, with awesome pastry around a good glob of jelly. These things are amazing. Just absolutely the best! I've tried every kind of pastry and cookie they offer by now, as well as a lot of their breads, and I have never had anything bad. Cinnamon twists are delicious, too, as are the apple pastries. Definitely get yourself a loaf of Challah while you're there, too. They are also incredibly vigilant about enforcing COVID restrictions here, which makes me want to give everyone in there a giant socially distanced hug. Everyone is wearing a mask - over their nose, no less. They actually ask people who aren't distancing from other customers to back up, etc. This place is a small, family run, locally owned business -- we need more places like this. read more

One of those small shops I've passed 200 times and have been meaning to go into each time I've passed. Freshly baked breads line the walls. I quickly bust out my Yelp app to see if there is anything particularly popular... a few reviews mention "pumpernickel" a few reviews mention "baked goods." That's not that much help. I came in for a cup of coffee, but then I saw that they had bagels as well! And then I was like... I want bagels. So I took a few home, had one this morning, it was quite delicious (Could be a little bit chewier and doughier in the middle), but absolutely a respectable bagel none the less. Then I saw the dark steed look me right in the eyes. "Just remember, if you look in the face of evil, evil's gonna look right back at you." Yes, I'm talking about the cronut. The infamous crossaint donut that I've heard people waiting in endless lines for in D.C. Thank g-d they didn't have the calorie count on this tempting seductress, with its shiny glazed filled, and layered soft outside. I agreed to have it with a friend. She said that she was only going to have 2 bites... but she ended up having 5... cause it was that good. The pastries looked on point. The breads looked so perfect they almost looked as if made from plastic. Walking through the door this random bakery in an old Bethesda strip mall (doors down from Strosneiders) I wasn't expecting much. My first step inside immediately perked my sense of smell with the most luscious breads.
