Chicken and dumplings

Our favorite local spot where everyone knows your name as soon as you walk in. We love the service and family feeling here. I know it's primarily a pizza joint but please don't sleep on Ivy's famous chicken and dumplings! The best meal when it's chilly outside and you want a warm quick dinner. We love our George's family!

Yummmmmm. All of it. Dive bar with great food! And great service! Affordable and easy. Not pictured - the homemade chicken and dumpling soup that we devoured. Beer crust cheese pizza was amazing dipped in pizza sauce.

George's is a hidden gem in the triad, and I'd argue some of the best chicken wings you're gonna find in the area.

Nice selection of IPAs and other drinks at the bar. We had the Boss and the Peace Train. The pizza is outstanding! The Boss is really good--sausage along with the crust make this a must eat option. The bar staff did a great job of checking in with us during our time there. Well run team. Between the beer selection, bar seating vibe, and top-notch pizza, this is an easy spot to come back to. We will certainly check it out when we are back in town.

I love when businesses really dive into their themes. The loaded fries were delicious. Including both solid (shredded cheddar) and liquid (white queso) cheese in one dish is a genius touch. I can't believe I've never thought to do that before. We paid to add fresh jalapeños to it, which added a nice fresh and spicy kick. Other than that, this was not a good experience. I did not enjoy the pizza, and the service was practically non-existent. Our server was nowhere to be found for the first 10 minutes or so, and then failed to bring drinks for several minutes after that. And it was not busy in there at all -- lots of open tables, and plenty of staff standing around. After delivering drinks and taking our order, he did not come back. We saw him walking around in other parts of the dining room, but he did not check on us. Several minutes after finishing our drinks, no refill in sight, we flagged him down and asked for a refill, which he brought. At this point, someone else had already delivered our food, and we were well into our meal. After bringing the one drink refill, we did not see him again until we asked for the check. The pizza was pretty dry, and did not come with vodka sauce as advertised. It was a red sauce not-so-thoroughly-mixed with Alfredo. I actually don't think they mixed them at all prior to putting it on the crust -- there were quite a few unmixed pockets, so I think they dolloped both on and swirled it around. I'm sure this does achieve a vodka-like flavor if executed correctly, but that was not the case here. Vodka sauce is typically silkier, more acidic, and far less sweet than this was. I didn't really like the red sauce at all here, and would definitely not order it (or their so-called vodka sauce) again. More salt/garlic would help, but I'd probably go with another base entirely, if I were to come back. In all, this is a great place to come if you're super into music, like appetizers, don't plan on eating pizza, and want to tip an aloof teenager for doing absolutely nothing.

Mixed bag is the best way I can describe the times I have had food from Rome Italian Pizza. I…read moreactually grew up in High Point, but had never eaten inside the actual restaurant until a week ago. That said, I have had pizzas either by take-out or delivery several times over what has to be 30 years now. Lately, I had a couple basic pizzas from them at a function in downtown, and we also stopped in for lunch on a total whim, wanting a pizza buffet. First, the pizzas over the years. I would say, on par with most of the locally owned pizza and local franchise spots around, like an Elizabeth's. Sometimes, I would describe the pizza as dry, other times, the sauce ratio is a little better and it is quite good. The pizza is a solid 4 stars, I would say, if you're considering a pizza... go for it, decide for yourself. Now, our most recent experience inside the restaurant, was simply not a positive one. We came in around 1pm, wanting to do the pizza buffet. Unfortunately, looking at what was available, it just wasn't appealing. The pizza was very cold, it needed a refresh. We expressed this to the waitress. If she had said "we'll make you a fresh pizza of whichever type you want" we'd have been game. That's not the response we got, so we moved on to hot subs. I ordered the meatball sub, my wife ordered chicken parm. The meatball was, just ok. The meatballs themselves were sliced and warm, sauce was the same I was used to from the pizza, cheese could have used more time to melt, but overall... I was OK. Her sandwich, was not good at all. She did write her own review about it, and I happen to agree. It's generally expected that ordering a chicken parm sandwich at an italian pizzeria is going to be a breaded cutlet. What was given was the shaved chicken that you would normally see if someone orders chicken on a pizza (not my thing, but to each their own). The result was very very dry chicken. The sandwich sat on her plate with two bites taken out of it for the meal duration. No prompt was given for whether we enjoyed our meal. In all, I learned my lesson that day, that this place is good for a fresh pizza. I'll only go that route in the future. The sandwiches were simply not our preference. The chicken parm needs to be rethought, or better explained as shaved chicken.

Aside from the kind server and clean interior, this was a terrible experience. We wanted to go to…read moreanother restaurant's pizza buffet, but got there and saw that it was closed, and decided to try this one instead. We took one look at the pizza buffet and decided ordering a fresh sandwich would be better than the cold, unappealing slices sitting out. We were wrong. My partner ordered the meatball sub. It wasn't half-bad. Nothing stellar, but no real complaints. I ordered what was described as a "Chicken Parmesan" sub. What came out was dried, rotisserie chicken with a little bit of bland marinera sauce and mozzarella cheese that wasn't even fully melted. When I read "chicken parm," my assumption is that it's a breaded, fried chicken cutlet baked with marinera and cheese, then placed on a sub roll. Not whatever that was. So I really only had a few bites and couldn't bring myself to continue eating it. A person who appeared to be in management stopped by to ask if I wanted a box, and I kindly replied no thank you. I was somewhat expecting him to ask how the meal was since he clearly saw I didn't eat it. But nothing from him.

The restaurant was clean and the staff were nice. Our order was simple: side salad with Italian, a 12" pepperoni pizza and 3 garlic knots with ranch. When my husband arrived, the salad and pizza was ready, but when the person he spoke to read the ticket he realized the garlic knots had not been made at all. My husband asked about the double pepperoni - Mario's no longer allows double toppings after 4pm on the weekends. When the garlic knots were done, my husband and our food came home. My husband's name was on the salad bag. The pizza box said "Mike" - spoiler alert, that's not my husband's name. No issues with the salad. He was disappointed because there were white onions on the salad and he didn't add any to the pizza because last time they had red onions. No complaints with the salad. We ordered 3 garlic knots, but they must have felt bad as they gave us 6 - with marinara, not ranch as asked. The kicker was "Mike's" pizza. Mike must have ordered a cheese pizza and then never picked it up. Pepperoni was added and it was tossed back in the oven long enough for the cheese to melt around the pepperoni, but not long enough to reheat the whole pizza. Nice try Mario's, but we're not impressed. It will be awhile before we order from here again!

Some…read moreco-workers of mine from way back in the day used to call this place "Wagon Wheel Pizza" because the slices are big enough to fill the area between the spokes of an old fashioned wood wheel! Gotta love a good southernism. I still like a whole pizza fresh when it comes to this style. Unless you happen to come at a busy time (actually prefered in this case) you may be getting a re-heated slice that could have been out of the oven for quite awhile. Reheating pizza by the slice to order is of course a common industry practice, but once they sit a bit too long, your end result can be less than ideal. If I think I can eat the leftovers, or definitely if I am sharing with someone, I definitely go the full pizza route. All in all, while I don't tell anyone to rush to Mario's because you absolutely have to have it, it is as reliable as they come at pretty much any of their locations... and that is much appreciated.
