It was easy to walk! There was a quite a few people that I passed while on this trail, which made me feel safe! My dog had a blast! And it was very beautiful! We went when it was 87 degrees but the trees made it feel not so hot. Highly recommend!

This is one of the best maintained trails I have had the pleasure of hiking in Texas. I loved the hike but it is really best for biking. There were mile markers with very detailed information and a Q code to scan and check your location. It was my first time in Texas and I was hiking alone. So those markers were Super helpful and well thought out. Had a very relaxing walk, me being the only person for the first 3 miles. Didn't come across any other hikers. After that, came across a bunch of other hikers and bikers. Felt pretty safe throughout.

A really nice place to go hiking with your furry friend! You have some loop roads so it's family friendly.

Great place to bike or hike while working in Houston! Shaded by trees so you can go even mid day during the summer months.

This is my favorite place to run. Hot, cold, rain, drought....it's a unique experience every time. The flooding a few months ago really wreaked havoc on the trails. I was relieved to see that not only had the damage been repaired, the trails have been slightly widened and grated. Whether you are looking for a place to exercise, a place to explore or some where to unwind, you should check out George Mitchell Nature Preserve. There is something very spiritual about walking through the woods.

Our hiking group, Houston Area Trails & More, hiked 11 miles of the George Mitchell Nature Preserve on a beautiful spring Saturday. The George Mitchell Nature Preserve is part of the Spring Creek Greenway. This trail was a nice getaway from the city. It was quiet and you're surrounded by greenery to hide any evidence of being in the city. Surprisingly, we didn't see many views of the creek itself from the trails. The flora was mildly interesting. There were ripe red and blackberries growing close to the ground that some members of the hiking group picked and ate. The tree cover was dense in some spots. We didn't encounter any wildlife other than faraway birds chirping. Trails were well-marked by fancy trailheads and orange paint on the tree roots or tree trunks. There was no bush-whacking and I didn't leave with any scrapes on my legs. I wore Asics running shoes and felt comfortable throughout. Most of the trails were on soft dirt. Occasionally you walk on short stretches of sand. Obstacles on the trails include tree trunks or creek crossings that happened to be dry or low enough to walk through. Sometimes the trails are out-and-back (a.k.a. lead to a dead end). We encountered very few people on this trail; there were maybe about 15 walkers and 5 mountain bikers throughout our stint there from 11:15 am to 3:45 pm. There were no drinking water fountains or restrooms inside the preserve. We parked off 6055 Creekside Forest Dr near the Elementary School and Pavilion. There are restrooms in the Pavilion. A trailhead mentioned on the official website is the Flintridge Drive Trailhead located at 5171 Flintridge Drive on the east side of the Preserve. Here is our GPS track: https://connect.garmin.com/activity/307730101

What a beautiful way to spend a day! The George Mitchell Nature Preserve has several different paths and ponds. Some paths are labeled for biking, which is nice for safety purposes (not worried about hitting peds and vice versa). There are lots of little creeks and brooks, but surprisingly it wasn't buggy at all. I can't wait to go back and explore some more. Maybe we'll bring a picnic next time :) Warning: parking can be a little tight, try to get there early.

My amateur cell phone photo of the beautiful lake. Does not do any justice to actually visiting it in person.

I was so surprised to not see many more reviews for this place. This is a little hidden treasure in The Woodlands. This amazing nature preserve has walking and biking trails and even a beautiful lake. If you are into nature then you are sure to love this place. I can't think of a better place to get away from the city and just relax in nature while exploring the wilderness. The parking is a little small but not many people are usually there at one time in this little amazing hideaway. It is a great place to breathe some fresh air, experience nature at its finest and spend a good time exercising with your significant other, family or friends. Don't get lost though, its pretty big. They are currently doing some new entrances that will connect it from Goslin road and the Creekside YMCA. It is kind of sad because they are having to tear down some of the place to build these but I guess it will make it more accessible for more people to enjoy. If you like nature, you definitely won;t regret your visit to this place!

Ask the Community - George Mitchell Nature Preserve

Does anyone know how long it is?

It varies depending on which trail you take but the outer loop is ]about 1.5 miles.

Can anyone tell me if you can push an adult in a a wheelchair on any of the trails?

You should be able to go for a few hundred feet, but the soil gets sandy and the terrain changes. It would be somewhat difficult. There's a picnic table about 150 ft into the trail.

Definitely wear tennis shoes or closed toe shoes here. The trails are a good mixture of dirt and then some parts are cement. Nice fishing spot as well. Catch and release only. Be careful letting smaller kids near the pond. I have seen a kid slip and fall in. He was okay and got out, but after seeing that I keep an extra eye on my kids if we want to get close to the pond. They have a sand volleyball court. Lots of walking trails. Even behind the trees where a retention pond is. They have covered pavilions with picnic tables and bbq pits. Also love that the playground is covered and kids can play in the shade. That's a MUST for Texas parks!

FYI: the trail is paved and stroller accessible. On the way back, we took another trail which was dirt and had no issue taking the stroller on that as well. Nice playground for kids. There are bathrooms just past the playground. I initially thought they were closed because the gate had the lock still on it (in a locked position) but luckily, someone advised me that they were actually open. So, don't go by appearances and actually tug on the door! There are two relatively small parking lots that fill up quickly but there is also street parking available.

Been here so long ago for a walk and didn't know there was an actual center for visitors to walk in and it's free to explore. My first family visit here, we went on a walk around the trails, where we saw wild blue berry bushes and lots of turtles In the pond. We took some amazing photos. Then I kept telling people about the trails and the ponds and my nature experience. Some days I'd go here and just sit for a while listening to the sounds of the wild. Then one day I went just me and my daughter and saw parents and there kids going and coming from the building and I decided to go see what's there. It was the best idea ever. For the hot days it's so nice to be in nature but still indoors and learn about cool rocks animals and even see and real insects and animals. My daughter loves this place just as much as I do. Great for homeschoolers who wants to learn about science. There are all different types of insects you can view under microscope and some to see in real life, there is a reading nook, building blocks to resemble habitats, aquatic animals and birds. There's also some reptiles that I love to take pics of. It's like a hidden gem. So much to explore, even if you can't make it in time for the nature center which closes at 4pm Tuesday to Saturdays, you can walk or bike around the ponds and see the trail maps for different routes. There is also a kids park.
