Turtle pond...
Shernea D.

Patrick, Donna and the crew take such "GREAT" care of the park. The new walkway is AWESOME. It feels so....good under your feet. Much better than concrete. It is very peaceful and serene... I try to purchase something in the gift shop or bring cash to donate for the rehab of the birds and other animals whom reside there. I this place!

I really appreciate this Nature Park. It has several birds that they have rescued and take care of (eagles, owls, hawks, etc.). There are numerous owl and bird houses on the property. One of them has turned into a bee nest too. I am not sure if the caretakers intentionally did that. I also spotted a large Racoon roaming around here. This park has an adorable lake full of turtles and tortoises. It looks like you can purchase food to feed them. The small lake has a lot of seating and a deck. It also has a beautiful sprawling tree on the back side of the lake. The park has some small trails that are either concrete or the spongy mulch material that is used for a lot of playgrounds. The trails wind through some beautiful tall trees. You can see a variety of plants from sea grapes to common lantana to American Beautyberry. There is an intercoastal boardwalk / overlook that has beautiful views. It has a nice children play area. There are bathrooms on the premise towards the front of the park / parking lot. This is not a huge park. I would not come here if I was looking for extensive exercise. However, this is a good spot if you are looking for a peaceful place to spend the afternoon in the trees...with nature.. or even with kids.

This park is a fun place to see multiple kinds of native butterflies in the wild, feed a huge assortment of turtles using food they have available for only 50 cents or a dollar, watch wild birds, and enjoy the company of some amazing birds of prey. They have an eagle, owls, and a huge red-tailed hawk. The hawk has these incredible red tail feathers and is a truly beautiful creation. This peaceful spot will take you away from the stress of the day and enable you to commune with nature in a positive way. If you are stressed, I'd highly recommend it. Nature has a special way of rejuvenating me. It could do the same for you!

This is a nice size park for kids to run around and enjoy nature. Kids needed a break from the beach so decided to get ice cream and enjoy em at the park. If it didn't get too hot we would have stayed longer than two hours. There's a park with swings and teepee structure for kids to climb on but everything was too hot to touch so we skipped that part of the park. Took the boardwalk close for the water to get to the turtle pond. Some parts were so dense with trees and palmettos, it feels like you're going through a mini rain forest. The turtle pond was our fav, there must have been hundreds of turtles in the water. Some were out sunbathing and we got inches close. There's plenty of benches to sit around, there's also picnic facilities for parties but I'm assuming none are open due to Covid. They close at 8pm so will most likely come back when the temp is a lot cooler.

This was a light in the seemingly dark times in which we are living. The nature park is still open to the public, and it's very easy to allow social distancing. The raptors were so amazing. Each one has their own placard and story. They have an American Bald Eagle there in the sanctuary, as she could no longer survive in the wild. She is majestic!! The turtle pond was delightful and peaceful. There was plenty of benches to sit and enjoy the peace. People around were very respectful of the social distancing measures. Just look at the wonderful flowers I captures along the way. You can walk out to view the inter coastal. I was so happy that the county has not closed this up, because with all of this going on I needed a little refuge from quarantine that was safe and beautiful at the same time.

Zip line at playground

My four year old son loves this place! The recycled shredded tire trail is awesome for little feet. The trail takes you to the intracoastal waterway pier, playground, and all thru nature. Along the route you may see turtles and birds out and about. Playground is small but has a fantastic zip line that keeps 3-7 year olds entertained. The turtle pond is home to numerous turtles and there are wicked owls in nature center along with snakes and other native animals. Friendly and informative staff. Great little place in Largo right over the bridge from Indian Rocks Beach.

Terribly misleading hours of operation. It's open 7 days a week. Sunday is raptor day with a show. Around 10am on Saturday they brought out all the different raptors. Really engaging. Staff was knowledgeable and sweet. Saw a gopher tortoise on one of the sandy trails. Kids playground was a lot of fun with kid zip line. I may have ridden too. ;) A good 2 hour diversion for younger kids 6 and below.

Demonstrations of different animals that are housed in the shelter. Faculty did an amazing job presenting and educating the children.

This city park in Largo was pretty cool! The indoor facility was utilized for my nephews 6th year birthday party. It had an indoor classroom that could hold up to 85 people comfortably. The faculty brought in select animals, including a bald eagle, to showcase to the children/adults. They also had a large outdoor pond where guests can feed the turtles. Lots of trails and parks. If you're looking for a fun, educational place where you can be around nature then this park is for you!!

I loved my morning walk through this cute little park! The rescue birds, especially the owls, are adorable. The turtle pond does not disappoint. The volunteers were friendly and answered my questions. The new tire rubber path provides great cushion to walk on. There is also a view of the intracoastal and a playground.

I went there to check this nature preserve out and found the parking lot very small. You can enjoy looking at sunbathing turtles, feed them with food you buy at their gift shop for 50 cents or a dollar. They have beautiful birds of prey. Plenty of owls. There were two small ones in the gift shop I thought were toys until one moved and blinked its eyes. Nice family place but some of the volunteers holding birds did not talk. Would have liked to have them interact with visitors.

A pair of Screech Owls.

This is a very quiet park, they have one Eagle, and several owls on display. Also two Kestrel Falcons and various reptiles on display. There is a turtle pond and you can feed the turtles. It is educational for children, and peaceful for those that want to get away from it all. The staff is informative and courteous.

My boys (7 and 10) loved feeding the turtles, looking at the owls and other animals inside, and the bald eagle.

Do not approach them! There's also a disc golf course on the western side of the park with ample parking and easy access for ADA folks, like me! I do use this park to start my bike rides on the Pinellas Trail and that's another reason to just go out and enjoy it. It's right next to the Pinellas Trail and good to mention the "Rails to Trails Conservancy" here! So glad to be a small part! There's a huge playground for children of all ages and a place to eat a nice picnic lunch underneath a nice open shelter. It's well patrolled by the friendly park ranger team and they are always out cleaning and repairing the park. Largo PD and the PCSO drives through a few times a day and this keeps the place quiet and calm. Beautiful place to calm the soul! Just Breathe!

My SIL has lived in the area for years, and knowing how much I love exploring nature near and far, she recommended a visit to this gem of a park only 10-15 minutes from her home. PERFECT choice!! We didn't have a ton of time, but squeezed in a FINE early morning walk around the lake, and I confess I slowed her down taking TONS of pictures (as usual...) because even though it's far from "wilderness," it's a great spot to see lots of nature and wildlife (no alligators this visit!!) and get away from the hustle and bustle normally part of my visit down to the Clearwater area. So many beautiful birds!! There's a well-marked trail around the lake, passing by picnic areas, playgrounds, disc golf courses, and more. Wish I had more time to explore, but at least I know where to go to "decompress" next time I'm down in this area. Definitely worth a visit... Enjoy!!

We've been trying out some different biking trails around the Orlando area. We've now visited the…read moreSeminole Wekiva Trail twice. We like it because it's more scenic than some other paved trails. It's also quite long, so you can choose how far you want to go. The first time we kept going alongside I-4 in Lake Mary, but the second time, we turned and went over I-4 (yes, OVER) and then continued down the trail that way before heading back. Coming from Winter Garden, the San Sebastian Trailhead is the closest jumping on point, and it's also near the beginning of the Trail. The trail does extend a couple of miles further across 436 and down by the Costco, but it seems too busy and trafficky that way. My GPS didn't take me to the correct spot for the trailhead, though, so be careful of that. The road to the trailhead is next to the left of the Rooms-to-Go parking lot with only a tiny sign indicating it. If you turn into a neighborhood (like my GPS suggested), you can't get to the trailhead from there. I love to see the art work painted on the backs of wooden fences as I bike down the trail. Someone has done of excellent job of making boring fences look exciting. There's also a decent amount of shade throughout the trail, and I love how they've built two tunnels under major intersections for bikes to safely cross.

However, West Orange is like the bike version of I4. Super crowded and you really have to pay attention. I guess the bike trail just mirrors Orange county traffic in general. So over to Seminole county, and it's more relaxed and less busy but no less the fun! We biked on a day where the high was 75. But in the sun it was quite warm. Make sure to wear sunscreen especially on your upper legs. I totally got burned. We began the bike trail in Lake Mary as it runs behind my boyfriend's neighborhood. We biked to Altamonte and then turned back around. We turned it into a mini "food bike crawl" stopping for lunch at Don Julio and snacks at 7 11 and Panera. A wonderful workout and activity to do with friends and for all ages. I can't wait to do the bike trail again soon!
