I chose to visit Dr. Liu because of the many 5-star reviews and hoped for a positive experience with a difficult dental issue; a broken crown that most dentists had deemed nearly impossible to save. Like others, Dr. Liu referred me to a specialist he works with, and I began a long process that included an extraction and an implant. This was my first time undergoing an implant procedure, and it was emotionally and physically stressful. Every visit felt heavy, and all I wanted was to get it done and move on. Over the course of nearly 10 months, I completed the implant with the specialist and returned to Dr. Liu for the final crown. I visited Dr. Liu's office at least eight times, possibly more, for the procedure. Throughout this process, the front office had both of my dental insurance plans on file. Yet, despite this, they never provided me with a cost estimate or gave me any indication that the crown wouldn't be covered. To my surprise, at the very end, during my final visit, I was presented with a very high bill for just the crown. It felt like a shock, especially considering that a friend of mine had a crown done by a reputable dentist in Beverly Hills and paid significantly less cash. What troubled me most wasn't just the cost, but the lack of transparency. The office had ample time and opportunity to inform me about what wasn't covered and what I would need to pay, yet they waited until everything was done. If I had been given this information upfront, I might have made a different choice. To be fair, the specialist Dr. Liu referred me to was very professional. From the first appointment, their office clearly outlined the entire cost breakdown and what my insurance possibly would and wouldn't cover. That kind of transparency gave me peace of mind; something I wish I had received from Dr. Liu's office. I believe patients deserve to make informed decisions about their care. Withholding important cost information until the end, especially when a patient is in pain and under stress, feels deeply unethical. My experience does not reflect the integrity I expected based on the reviews, and I hope this feedback encourages more transparency for future patients. While Dr. Liu seemed competent, the lack of transparency around costs left me disappointed. Patients deserve clear, upfront communication, especially during stressful, costly procedures. He is the most compassionate, gentle, efficient, and knowledgeable dentist I've ever been to and that's coming from someone who grew up with a periodontist for a father. I used to have a fear of going to the dentist, but that changed when I visited Dr. Liu. For years, I had numerous cavities due to wearing dental braces as a child and not properly cleaning my teeth. I thought I would need root canal or even implant treatments. However, after a through examination, Dr Liu assured me that most of my teeth could be filled and only two of them, which had previously undergone root canal treatment, needed crowns. His confidence in his assessment gave me hope and courage to proceed with the treatment. His touch was gentle and I didn't experience any pain at all. He is caring and professional, which helped alleviate my fear. After a few visits, all of my dental issues have been resolved! I'm extremely grateful. I would also like to express my gratitude to all the staff at Dr. Liu's office who were always friendly and patient in answering my questions- especially Claudia at the front dest. Initially, I believed that I would have to pay out-of-pocket for the treatment since my dental insurance plan had expired just a few weeks prior. However, Claudia encouraged me to purchase a new plan which ended up saving me a significant costs. Luckily enough, within 30 days from the expiration date of my previous plan, I acquired new coverage and was exempt from the usual 3-month/ 6-month waiting period for filling and crown. I met her today when she did my deep clean I am completely blown away ..she incredibly thorough and was fantastic with giving me all the numbing I needed for my deep clean . A friendlier or nicer person I don't think I've ever met in a dental office. She had a huge smile. Her voice was empathetic and kind and her skills as a hygienist with the deep clean I put on the same level as a dental surgeon. She gave me very valuable information about flossing..using my water pic, brushing my teeth, as well as lots of information during the actual deep clean..I literally almost fell asleep a couple of times that's how painless it was. Amber asked a lot of questions about my life and took a genuine interest in who I was not only as a client, but as a person, This young lady has found her niche...she was born to be a hygienist ... Phenomenal dentist and office. I truly wish I had found Dr. Liu earlier. Not sure whether to thank the friends who recommended him or condemn them for not making me see him sooner. Would have saved a lot of time and money. It's one thing that everyone is so considerate and nice, but this office is supremely efficient, user-friendly, and competent. They don't rush or treat you inconsiderately, they're just that good and fast. I'm not just talking about cleanings here, though those are excellent. Final permanent crown application? Took about 15 minutes once I was in the chair. No issues, seamless bite integration. Small cavity filled? Took a little over 20 minutes. Numbing was spot on. Didn't have mush mouth after, didn't last too long, had no pain. They take the bib off and I find myself saying "That's it?" I don't often leave Yelp reviews and I assure anyone reading there is no incentive for me leaving this recommendation. I just felt compelled to do so out of sheer admiration. I want to start off by saying I highly recommend coming here! After over 3 years of putting off my "routine" dentist visit, I found this dental office. I'm not one that's afraid of the dentist, but have been hesitant because I haven't had a permanent dentist since I was a child. Dr. Liu had plenty of great reviews (thanks to my fellow yelpers for taking the time to share), and was close to home. I decided to call to ask if they take my insurance and ended up booking an appointment. Despite it being the middle of the busy season for dentists, they were able to book me in within the next 2 weeks. When I showed up to my appointment, the receptionist was very friendly, attentive, and helpful. After being brought in, I was greeted by the he dental assistant, who was also very friendly. Next, Dr. Introduced himself and went to work. I was shocked that he did my entire consultation/cleaning himself, along with his assistant. From my past experience, the dental assistant typically does a majority of the work, while the dentist just checks in/finishes up, so this was a pleasant surprise. I want to stress that throughout the appointment, each individual took extra care in not shaming me for having avoided the dentist in so long. They were also the first dental professionals who didn't judge me for having a lip piercing. They also didn't seem like the type who'd try to sell you products and services just to make some extra money. For example, I was recommended a mouth guard for grinding at night. They actually recommended purchasing over the counter first, unless I wanted a custom one then they'd be happy to make one for me. I moved to Calabasas about five years ago and still make the trek to Sherman Oaks because of how amazing he is and his staff. His receptionists are all nice and very good with communication and accommodation. You have great staff! I hate going to a dentist...BUT I don't mind going to Dr. Liu because he cares, communicates well during procedure and detailed. My new crown did not fit well. Instead of tried to make it work, he sent it back to the lab and made it better one. He called me to make sure I felt ok after procedure and let me know to make next appointment for a new crown. If you're at all nervous or sensitive about dentists, Dr Liu is the best. I have avoided dentists for years and was super nervous going in. (I'm talking almost walking out of the waiting room nervous). But this Dr Liu and his staff are wonderful. He really listens and explains everything carefully, and is soooo gentle. My last memory of a filling was painful so I was pretty anxious about this one. But in the end I couldn't feel the needle AT ALL (and I feel everrrything!). He also took the time to realise the injections were not numbing my gums enough so I ended up having several before he started (no dentist ever noticed that before - no wonder dental work used to hurt!). Basically if you're looking for someone who explains things calmly and has the gentlest touch, this is it. Also his staff is lovely (thanks Claudia!). so I was flossing my teeth when one of my fillings cracked off. I had just moved out here and it was my first day of work the next day. I frantically searched for providers who accepted my insurance. Unfortunately...I needed an emergency appointment the Friday before the 4th of July weekend. I called a list of at least 5 dentists...Dr. Liu was the only one who was available that day. He fixed my filling and I've been a patient ever since! Like others have said he is professional and excellent at what he does. It's always a little anxiety provoking for me to go to the dentist so it helps that he has such a calm demeanor. Also the staff is wonderful.
