I used Genz-Ryan for the first time this month. I recently moved and wanted an inspection on both my furnace and air conditioner. The technician was able to tune up both units in one visit. That was great for me not having to make a second appointment. The review of my systems was thorough and the tech took time to explain what he found. He also pointed out an issue which I was unaware of related to my water heater which apparently had a small leak. I would give zero stars if I could. This is the worst experience I have had. AC was not working, called them to see if they could figure out what was wrong and repair if needed. They told us we needed a new AC unit and said we should get a new furnace as well, all for the price of 15,000 dollars. We called a different company to get a second opinion, they checked everything thoroughly and fixed our AC unit with a new part (total cost was 350 compared to the 15,000 Genz Ryan told us). I wanted to replace a kitchen faucet that's leaked for over a year, and get rid of a disposal that stopped working about a year ago too. Plus, the plumbing under the sink was corroded and needed replacement too. I live in a 110+ yr old condo, so that presents real challenges as well. I called Genz-Ryan and they sent someone first thing in the morning to size up the job. It turned out to need more time than the appointment had available, so they scheduled a plumber to come first thing the following morning. Jack Gabrick showed up on time, and did a great pulling out the old faucet & disposable, installing the new faucet and 2 new sink drains, and cutting out all the old, corroded water pipes and the maze of drain pipes and replacing it all. The whole job took about two and a half hours. I had to leave for an appointment, and Jack did a great job installing the new faucet, hauling all the junk away, cleaning up the space and locking up the space when he left. When I saw the quote the day before, I thought it sounded high. But when I add up the quality of the work, my experience with the 2 Genz-Ryan representatives, and certainly the timeliness of addressing my need, I'm very satisfied with the job. I'd definitely use Genz-Ryan again, and ask for Jack Gabrick again. read more

Ghenz Ryan works with a 3rd party Ai company, where their job is to only hire overseas people to pay them less and pick up missed calls. They only care about getting money in their pocket and the people on the phone don't actually work for Ghenz Ryan. Also, in speaking with their AI telephone person Sarah, "she" said no prepayment was required. I just need an air duct cleaning, not the frustration that this has caused... He was wonderful to work with - very polite and friendly, and he truly cared about helping me find the best options within my price range. This review is not for my technician Emillio who did a 5 star repair. This company however, earns a 2 star review for customer service and price. I set up online an appointment for Monday morning. Morning came and went with 1 text message saying they were delayed. Afternoon came and went with another message saying I was rescheduled to Wednesday. I again requested morning service. Finally at 5pm my tech showed up after I tried to cancel the service call. This was a simple repair, removing a small leaky valve, it took less than 30 min. But the tech first said he had to inspect all of my water systems, telling me my water heater was 10 years old and my softener was not working. I did not request these inspections. He then sat in the van for half an hour talking to his manager. Then he hit me with the incredible repair price. Probably double what other companies charge but now he's here so let's get it done. You'd think this company is wonderful from their TV commercials but beware, not good.​ read more

We scheduled an appoint with them to check out our air conditioner. They left a message saying we were their first call and would be here at 7:00 am. At 1:00 they still weren't here. I called and they said they were running behind and would call in an hour with an update. They called and said they couldn't make it today and would have to reschedule after we spent the whole day waiting for them. I cancelled and called someone else who came at the appointed time. Project spec was replace old water heater with same style (40g gas). Instead of plumber they sent a salesman. He presented their recommendation: $13,000 for water heater and home water softening! When I said, I just want a water heater, they quoted $4100. That's literally double what we ended up paying a reputable plumber. They might do good work. The salesperson was professional and polite. Prices are based on some kind of "work packages " where no one can even explain how the package set and what makes the price with complete refusal of giving price breakdown . I have to say that my problem with AC leak in thermostat expansion valve was fixed ( at ridicules price for that) , but quality of work is inconsistent and depends on technician . The earliest they had available was Wednesday morning, I understood since I was calling close to 5 pm on a Monday. I had 2 other companies able to come out the following morning. I called Tuesday to see if they would be able to come out that day if there was an opening. They were able to love my appointment up and were out that afternoon! Which was wonderful since I could show my fiancé all 3 quotes. Not only was Genz-Ryan the lowest already, but they gave us a great deal for signing up that night with them. The install was setup for the next morning (today). Aaron stuck around to explain things to my fiancé so we could make a decision easier. And he didnt try and upsell us on anything. Hugo was here at 830 in the morning and worked in the hot humid 100 degree day to get the ac up and running by 130. He was professional, nice and cleaned everything up and didnt leave a mess. I agree with others that there should be a zero or negative star for Genz-Ryan. Extremely overpriced and sales guy (field Mgr.) Loren Bottem extremely rude. They tried saying our water heater they installed was not under warranty. Luckily, I found the paperwork from them and it said it had a 9 yr. warranty. I think it started leaking on Year 8. They finally agreed to replace it at no cost, but look at the exchange I had with Loren: Me: Do we pay for the permit? Loren: Stop it Andy no we do. It's part of the original service you got with us. Genz-Ryan have really gone down hill over the last two years or so. I signed up for their maintenance plan, which is not cheap. Initially the service was excellent. However their level of service has descended into the basement. They continually reschedule appointments often at the last minute, with all manner of excuses. They are way behind on service now. The last straw was a reschedule, and to add insult to injury, they had lost the details of my equipment, and right before the appointment phoned to ask what equipment and units I had! After telling them, they decided that did not have the right tech. I have taken my business else where. I spoke with one of my sons who also uses Genz-Ryan, and he has had similar poor service of late. read more

There isn't a zero star choice, I had to pick one star. They charge around double what others typically bid. In my case, they replaced a furnace blower motor (OVERCHARGED) and managed to snap a cvpc pipe connection in the process -- then claimed it was already broken and wanted more money to replace the part HE broke. When he was done, one of the wire harnesses wasn't re-fastened to the chassis, another snafu. And a hose connection for water drain was not reconnected at the input end of the drain. PRESSURE SALES PITCH, Every 10 minutes was a pressure sales pitch for their service plan or a total replacement like "before I get started, are you interested in [a new part or total replacement]" They guy they sent had only been doing this for a year, not trade school trained but just On The Job (OTJ) trained. read more

We have called them several times for problems with our AC. We live in a new Lennar construction. We moved on March 8, 2022. First problem was the AC unit wouldn't start when the weather started warming up. The Lennar building supervisor helped us with that because Genz-Ryan is too busy and has no staff to come help with the problem. We noticed that the AC unit doesn't keep up with the set temperature on the thermostat. There is always a 10 point difference for the past few weeks. Lately, the difference was 15. Outside temperature was 80 and our thermostat shows 80 despite being set at 65-70. We called Genz-Ryan multiple times only to be given an appointment in 3-4 weeks. Apparently, a house temperature of 80 is not considered an emergency. We spent the night in a hot house despite the open windows. The dog was panting the whole afternoon. We were so frustrated that we ended up calling another company just to diagnose the problem. They had an opening the same day (today) and the tech came right on time. They diagnosed the problem as low refrigerant levels and a leak in the system. We decided not to have it repaired with the other company because we are under warranty with Genz-Ryan. Our available appointment is on July 18. We will see if they actually show up. As per previous negative reviews, they have a history of calling and cancelling on the day of the appointment. We called again today requesting a refrigerant refill as a temporary measure to alleviate the situation. But no courtesy was given to us as customers. We wish Lennar would go with a different company for the HVAC. Genz-Ryan deserves a 0 rating but unfortunately, 1 is the lowest score. Poor customer service. You have been warned! read more

I wished I checked Yelp before calling. They promise free quotes- that is reasonable as I am not asking for them to plan the interior decorating. Just how much is it for an outlet install. They are available to call- discuss with you that their appointments are "open ended" - you know .. like the cable company.. however this is even worse- there is NO TIME FRAME! Just that sometime during the day they will call you within 30-45 minutes for you to go out. That is ridiculous. Oh. The free quote they are so proud about- is ONLY if you purchase- which really is NOT A FREE QUOTE! Be realistic a free quote is a free quote. No I wont wait around 12 hours for your tech to possibly be available. This clearly is working for your company but I will never support you. read more

I can't help but agree with other reviews- RUN! We had them come out on 12/10/2021 to fix a gas leak on our dryer. They charged us $242 to fix it. 16 days later I noticed the smell of gas again in the same spot; Centerpoint energy came out ASAP and assessed a gas leak in the SAME spot on our dryer. They could tell it was the same spot based on the yellow crayon marks noting where the previous gas leak had been. I've since called Genz Ryan twice today telling them that the gas leak they 'fixed' 16 days ago is back. They said they would 'love' to come out and take a look at it, however we would again be charged to have them fix the same thing they fixed 16 days ago, saying there was no warranty on the fix and it was a 'temp' fix. WHO in the world wants a 16 day fix?! I've asked to speak to a manager, but they are apparently in a meeting. So I have yet to speak to a manager. It's really the poorest customer service I've ever received. I'm not trying to be difficult, but for goodness sakes. When Centerpoint came, they also confirmed they have not heard good reviews about Genz-Ryan. So apparently I'm not the only dissatisfied customer. We are a busy family with 2 boys under 4 years old. We don't have time to keep having Centerpoint come out to turn off our gas..... NOR is it safe to keep having gas leaks, NOR do we have the money to keep forking out money to Genz-Ryan for 'fixes' that really are not fixes at all. I wish I could give a better review. But really, have not been impressed. Side note: They also came out in October 2021 to fix the dryer gas shut off valve for $763. Very overpriced. read more

We bought a new central air unit and furnace from them less than a year ago. They screwed up the install on both and had to come back to fix the errors. The 1st guy who came out to look at the AC said it was an electrical issue not covered by the warranty. He then charged me for the visit and said an appointment was set up with the electrician. The electrican came out and said that it was not an electrical issue but that it had been installed incorrectly and was covered by warranty, so I called them back and requested a refund from the previous day's appt. The first issue we had with the new furnace was an error the installers had with the gas pressure so they had to come back out and fix that. We thought that fixed everything, but here we are again with a furnace not holding the temperature. It keeps dropping. We had a guy out last week who turned the gas pressure down which he said fixed it. It failed less than a week later. We had another guy out yesterday who increased the gas pressure and said that it was fixed. 24 hrs later and we're back to our thermostat falling and they'll be back tomorrow for the 2nd time this week. It's becoming clear they don't know what they are doing. I've requested a senior technician only to be told by the gal on the phone "all the olds guys retired". I wish I could return the furnace and A/C for a refund so we could go elsewhere, but I think we are stuck with them until the warranty expires. At that point, we will be done doing business with them. My advice is go to anyone else for furnace and AC issues. read more

They were here for 3 hours as they had to get up into my attic to make sure the venting was done properly. They were both pleasant and worked hard while they were here. We bought our home in 2022 (it was built in 2018) and had GR come out in early December 2022 to make sure our furnace was working as expected as the thermostat kept going out occasionally (come to find out the thermostat had a recall). The technician was at our house ALL day, half the time wanting to just to have small talk and would play with our dogs. At the end of the day he said we needed to get our ducts cleaned ASAP and they had an opening that evening (fine we had just moved in and probably should - the tech after said they were pretty clean) but we also apparently had a broken blower motor that was leaking a ton of oil and causing major issues and needed fixing immediately. We said fine and replaced for over $2,000. We had GR come out a few weeks ago for our yearly "tune up" and come to find out that same part was again "broken" and we could replace it for now 3,500 OR the other option was we should just buy a new furnace as ours could go out at any time. We asked if the tech maybe installed it wrong or why it happened the first time and they said there were no notes in the system. This time was due to dust getting stuck maybe from when the house was built (interesting as we had the ducts cleaned and they were fine...) Why was the part that was installed less than a year ago not covered / broken within the year? Apparently it was only a 30-day warranty (we looked up the brand of the furnace and they have a 10 year warranty on parts). He also said that our flame sensor was dead on top and that eventually it would fail and we'd need a new one so we should also replace that immediately. We said we'd think on it and have him come back out after Thanksgiving. (since no other issues were occurring) We had a second opinion come out - apparently not a single thing is wrong with our furnace, working just fine, and he felt terrible that they replaced that part and we spent all that $$ because why it broke didn't even make sense. He said he'd come back in 2 years unless we felt the need to come sooner, but our furnace should work as expected. Will NEVER use GR again and wish we could get a refund on our "broken" part. Had to Block them from my phone. I currently need to look into a new water heater. I called them for a general price quote to get a ball park estimate. I'm looking to replace a tankless with a new tankless and wanted to check brands and have a basic cost idea as the on I have is 20years old and the prices have likey gone up significantly. They would not provide someone for me to talk to and stated they need to send someone out for a free consultation. I told them I needed to discuss with my wife and I'd get back to them. I was considering them at the time so I mistakenly left my contact information. That's when the spam phone calls started. I let them go to voice mail and finally picked up after several days and said this is very unattractive calling EVERY, yes every, day! I restated that when I was ready I would call them. That stopped the calls for a day or two. They started right back calling every day. I finally blocked them. I cannot suggest using an Ambulance chaser company like this. DO NOT give them your number even if interested. I just suggest avoiding this company. read more
