Gem Automotive performed a alignment on my 2013 Ford F150, They did a fantastic job. Very courteous, professional, and respectful. On a previous alignment another company (Sears) left my steering wheel was a slight bit off of center. I stopped here when I had a tire pressure light go on in my car. The guy who helped me was very unfriendly. He acted like I was a total inconvenience. He said he'd help me in a minute b/c he was the only one there. (there were no other customers at the time) He was so rude I said that I'd go somewhere else because he seemed really busy. After he checked my tires and told me I needed new ones in addition to a nail repair, he said he couldn't fix it for me b/c no one would be there till 9am. Even if I could have waited, I wouldn't have. I left and had a great experience at Wheel Works. I'm guessing maybe someone called in sick, or the guy had a rough morning, but why take it out on me? Unlike the other review, I am totally pleased with Mitchell and his crew. I have been taking my cars elsewhere before to have them fixed. However after having many issues with big names like Sears, I started taken my cars to his store (wife previously went there before marriage). Since going there he has resolved my issues that other places dragged their feet on and could not find a solution. I will continue to give Mitchell my business. I've heard this place recommended a few times. I'm getting ready to turn in my BMW 535i in as its lease is nearly up. I had stopped in to see what they could do for me because my tires were looking pretty sad. They had a good deal on some tires that they had on hand and got the work done in a few hours. What I am grateful for is how comfortable he was with the leasing story and that he set me up for what I'm sure the BMW dealer would have completely screwed me over. I have been taking my 1994 Chevrolet Suburban to Genuine Automotive for years for general maintenance. I don't drive it too much anymore: maybe 1000 miles per year. Nevertheless, every time I take it in, they perform all the service I request in a good, workmanlike manner. I have been satisfied, but I never felt the need to write a review until now. It's hard to find examples of honesty in the car repair world, but Mitchell, who runs the place, showed his to me the other day. I was worried that my nearly 15-year-old SUV needed new tires: not because the tread was getting low, but simply because the tires themselves were 15 years old. So I took the Suburban over to Genuine Automotive for some new tires. Mitchell came out and looked over the tires. He checked under the SUV to see the insides of the tires as well. His verdict was that the tires were fine. He said, "I would love to sell you some new ones, but these are fine. There are no cracks on the sidewalls, and you probably can drive on them for several thousand more miles." I mentioned that it had been over a year since I had an oil change as well. Mitchell responded that I hadn't put enough miles on the truck and that the detergents in the oil should be fine and would still be protecting my engine. So I left without having any work done, but I really valued an honest opinion. Like I said, I have been satisfied with the service at Genuine Automotive going back at least eight years (I still have some old repair records), but I felt like this was a great example of an honest car repair shop that I should share. read more

DO NOT GET A U-HAUL HERE!!!! I was sent to this place to get the only 17ft truck. I got there at 10am and my truck was ready. They pulled it around and we inspected it through and through and everything looked great. So we pulled off the lot and hopped on the freeway. i got 1 exit down and the truck didn't seem to want to shift... weird. i pulled over and called the u-haul roadside assistance. I waited 2 hours before they showed up. We ended up taking the truck back to Genuine Auto. The workers and the supervisor were there and i told them the issue. Roadside told them the truck had a transmission issue. one of the Asian workers got into the truck and drove it around the block. he came back and told the supervisor (loud enough for me to hear) she's crazy the truck is fine. It is such a relief to have a mechanic that you trust. We have been going to Mitchell for 12 years. He is on speed dial on my cell. I have called him from the mountains with "Mitchell, my car is making a funny sound, what should I do," to "is that a repair that I can wait on or is it a safety issue?" Each response from him is measured and thoughtful. True to their name, they are genuine. Like many other people say, Mitchell does not try to sell you. Having worked in both insurance and IT before, this is much appreciated, as it is not fun to deal with someone who wants to sell you when you want them to help you. They are always communicative about what they are doing (they call us up for updates on pricing and what they are doing, as well as why they are doing something), and they get the job done at a fair price. My father-in-law loves this place but I had a mediocre experience. I brought my newly-purchased used car in for its first check-up. The guy who helped us (his name escapes me now) was friendly and nice with lots of suggestions for repairs, replacements, etc. I agreed and left the car in faith. As several days passed without much communication, I finally called and asked for an update. When I did reach him I was surprised at how nonchalant he was about the fact that he didn't call me back. I tried to emphasize that obviously I wanted my car back as quickly as possible and he seemed fairly unconcerned. After that, it seemed that every time we spoke on the phone or in person he had found something new that needed to be fixed and paid for. Many of people seem to like him, but I found him to be impersonal and ultimately a little unprofessional. He did good work on my car, though I don't plan to go back because customer service is very important to me. read more

I don't write a lot of reviews, but when I do, it's because I've received either really good or really bad service. Genuine Automotive is really good! Over the years, I've taken several cars to Mitch and he's been nothing but straightforward and honest about problems my cars may be having. For example, several years ago I took him a 12 year old car I was going to allow my teenager to drive around town, to and from school, and things like that. Mitch went through the car and called me with a few recommendations of what absolutely should be fixed and what really wasn't necessary to upgrade at that moment for the type of driving she was going to be doing. I know very little about cars so he could have told me just about anything and I would have believed it. For about $500 the car was put back into reliable, safe condition and ran great until we sold it. Another example is I recently took another one of our cars in for Mitch to look at because the front end seemed "shaky" when the brakes were applied. My immediate thought was it needed brakes or the rotors were out of round and I wanted Mitch to replace the brakes. He again called me and said the rotors were a little out of round but overall the brakes were good. Instead, he told me the issue was the place I had put tires on the car didn't balance them and that was probably more the issue--turns out it was! Again, he could have told me, "Oh yes, you need brakes immediately" and I would have had them done them to the tune of several hundred dollars. Recommended! Our van broke down on the way back from Santa Cruz and we had to get off the highway. I headed down the street and ran into this auto repair place in Los Gatos. It was Sunday and the place was closed. Had to leave (abandon?) our van in their parking lot. Fortunately, they had a drop box... Nice! So, I drop the keys in an envelope with instructions on what I want done to the van and we left it to the mercy of the unknown mechanic. :( ...thinking this was gonna be expensive. The next day I called the place and Mitch already saw my vehicle. To my surprise, Mitch treated us well. He had our van repaired in no time and at a cost of a local repair place... whew! He also worked with me and held my van until I could drive back and pick it up the next weekend... no extra charge for storage! awesome! Do try them out! read more

I recently misplaced my smog notice and it was due in a week. My check light has been on and I panicked about getting everything fixed in time. I posted a plea on Facebook for suggestions on trustworthy mechanics and a friend recommended Genuine. I called and spoke to Mitchell Friday afternoon and was pleased that he 1) was open on Saturdays and 2) could do a diagnostic on Saturday. -I called Capitol VW and for whatever reason they couldn't do diagnostics on the weekends, but that's a whole other thing. I dropped my car off Saturday morning and spoke with him that afternoon about what needed to be done. By Monday afternoon I had my car back and fixed for what I brought it in for. There's a few other things he found and I feel confident in bringing my car back to him for the work. I have been taking our cars to Mitchell for over 10 years. And my kids take their cars to him as well. He is honest, fair and is very thorough in detailing what service is needed and what can potentially wait if necessary. I trust him to the point that when I relocated out of the area for a few years my kids continued to take their cars to him for service and I could call with my credit card # to pay. Never a problem on either side and it was definitely hassle-free for my children. I certainly won't guarantee the exact same service, but that's the level of customer service I have experienced. Michell runs a good shop He dosen't overcharge. Michell is very professional as well, He dosent try to be your best friend . I have brought 3 different vehicles to him. first 2 were great but on the 3rd he did my alignment and couldn't get it all the way straight but i still get charged?... tells me theres nothing in book from mfr.. to correct it. car still pulled to the right when i left, felt robbed ... thats when i knew i had to move on. next mechanic fixed issue. 3 stars was me being generous for this place its borderline more like 2.75 stars read more

If you rent a U-haul from here...and I highly discourage it...make sure to bring a digital camera and take pictures of every square inch of the truck prior to signing papers and driving away. I had a very bad experience renting a U-haul here. I purchased the optional $14 insurance that they pushed because they said that many auto insurance companies don't cover damage to rental trucks like these. Whether or not this is true, I'm not sure. Prior to signing the papers that say there is no damage to the truck, I went outside and looked it over. However, I neglected to look up high on the sides. I pointed out a couple spots where I saw marks, but I don't think they even noted them on the paperwork. We left Genuine Automotive to pick up some furniture in Portola Valley and drop it off in Fremont. We never left the truck in any public places and there were a total of two driveways I parked in while loading/unloading. There were no tall trees near either of the two driveways. Upon returning the U-haul, the gentleman went outside to get the mileage and inspect the truck. When he returned, he said, "What about that scratch?" I started laughing because I thought he was joking around since he had seen me go out and look at it prior to driving away. I asked him what scratch, and he pointed to a few long, relatively deep scratches that were up high on the sides of the truck. I told him there was no way I had done that. Then he said that I had inspected it and not mentioned it and that it looked like I scraped a tree branch. There were no trees to scrape against along the whole route I took, and I had neglected to look up high when I inspected the truck. He brought out his manager to tag-team me and he said that it looked like I hit a metal structure or building. I reiterated that I hit nothing and my friend told them the same thing. Then they said that it was good that I purchased the insurance and that if there were going to be any additional charges for the damage that U-haul would call me. So far I haven't been charged anything, and I better not be. I think this place is running some sort of scam. Depending on how you react when they give you the "damage" news, they probably ask for cash to cover the damage. If you have purchased the optional insurance, then they also have a way to get their trucks repaired, or not repaired and pocket the cash. This seems like a very shady place. It frightens me to think of what sort of "damage" they find when estimating car repairs. read more
