Wow. Who would have thought you can find quality Italian food in Newton, Kansas? Although I have only just found the place, and eaten here just once, I'd say it is the best place to eat I have found in town. I come here for golf tournaments once or twice a year, but this is on my agenda whenever I return. The Linguini Tutomare was excellent. Didn't expect to find green-lip mussels, black mussels, bay scallops, shrimp, clams and calamari nicely prepared, this far from the coasts. Will be back in a few weeks, can't wait. We really like this restaurant and have been several times. Last night, not so much. We brought an out of town guest since we think this is one of the best choices in town. The always delicious rolls were way, way over baked, I'm surprised they left the kitchen. We then waited 20 minutes for our orders to be taken. Our meals were ok, but didn't seem as good as we remembered. Maybe because we were disappointed with our experience up to that point. As it got close to 8pm (we didn't realize they were approaching close) a waiter comes up and awkwardly and rudely tells us they are closing and he needs to 'kick us out'. We completely understand closing time issues and apologized and quickly left. Owners should have this conversation with employees and teach a more gracious manner to address customers at closing. read more

We stopped on our way to a concert in Salina. Terrible service! We sat at our table for over an hour waiting on our food. Went there on a suggestion and I am very pleased I did! The woman that runs the restaurant was very nice. The server brought us bread and a dip that has oil and vinegar. It was some of the best bread I have ever had. I ordered the pasta sampler. It was exceptional! I found out that they make the pasta fresh every morning along with that bread that is a little piece of heaven! The price was very reasonable and they took very good care of our table. We are from out of town and thanks to Yelp we found this little gem of a restaurant! Every dish we tried was amazing. We were too full to eat all of the lemon cake but it did not disappoint. Don't be put off by the ambiance! The diner-ish appearance does not do justice to the food that comes out of the kitchen. Went on Valentines Day for an early dinner with the Hubster and my parents, who live locally. We were glad we went early because the place filled up quickly and a line formed! While we looked at the menu, we sampled the complimentary garlic knot rolls and a balsamic-olive oil dipping sauce. The rolls were hot, fluffy and light with a delicious buttery herb topping. I thought the sauce was a tad too vinegary but the others in my party enjoyed it. My dad ordered the sausage pizziola, (pasta and sausage); my mom the sampler (lasagna, manicotti and spinach ravioli) which arrived at the table in a hot ceramic skillet. The Hubs ordered the "Works" spaghetti with sausage and a large meatball, as well as a side Caesar Salas. I ordered the Cecilia Special, crab and shrimp ravioli in a delicious cream sauce. We were all very happy with our entree choices and would definitely recommend any of the dishes we selected. The sauces were perfectly flavored. Had heard good things about this place. Decided to try it for our 34th anniversary. We were here early on a Saturday evening. The place was packed. Gave our name to the hostess and after a short wait had a nice table. The staff brought warm bread and our drinks quickly. Had a wonderful meal. Large tasty portions enjoyed it very much. The staff did a amazing job of keeping things moving. But didn't make us feel rushed. As soon as someone left the table was made up with fresh table cloths and and ready for the next guests. This is a wonderful little restaurant with better food than you would expect in a small city in the middle of Kansas. Service was excellent. Garlic bread was light and flavorful. Great food and exceptional service. I was fortunate enough to be served by the owner, but I believe she is always available to her customers. The recommendation she made was right on the money. I had the calamari appetizer it was so meaty and juicy. The special house dressing is wonderful but the best part was the portobello ravioli, WOW! The sauce!! These are the best raviolis I've had at a restaurant, you can actually taste the mushroom. I will be back. I will start this by saying we went here because a coworker RAVED about it saying it was the best she's had and so authentic. So...there's that. We were served knots of bread that were good and tasted microwaved. Everyone else received a bowl of liquid (oil? vinegar?) to dip them in, we did not. At the end of our meal, I heard a waitress state bread was unlimited - we only got one serving, I would have given two stars if we were even offered more. Flies were terrible. Literally, eight or so swarming us the moment our drinks came out. It is true - no alcohol. For me, I was okay with that, again it would have greatly helped. We ordered two appetizers - the calamari was good, mozzarella sticks meh. I ordered Marsala. I eat Marsala at restaurants all the time. The sauce is thick, the mushrooms are delicious. This came out like watered down gravy or thickened stock. Almost no taste, the mushrooms were white and I didn't even bother to try. I let it sit wondering if it needed to sit, cool down and thicken...no luck. My dinner partner got their works and said canned sauce is better and the sausage was not made or fresh. We brought home manicotti to my daughter and she wouldn't finish it (it's her favorite meal). I honestly don't understand how people like it. They obviously do because it remained fairly full the entire time we were there. I would rather eat a frozen Italian meal. Take my review for what it's worth - I'm just an Italian wondering what happened to the italian. read more

Read about so many people loving this place to had to give it a try. Bread was good, salad was good (it's no Olive Garden salad though) I ordered a combo plate and it was four different pasta items. Entire thing came out baked in one dish and covered in cheese. I couldn't even see what was what. All of the pasta was hard on the bottom because they baked it in one dish. All of it tasted the exact same. My mom got the lasagna and honestly... no way it was beef. It was ground smushed up turkey ?? with CARROTS? And the lasagna wasn't layered it was rolled up like a cinnamon roll. So the outside pasta was hard and crunchy because again they baked it on one giant plate. Won't be back. Spent over 40$ for essentially a plate of cheese and a meat cinnamon roll. Also- they were blasting Spanish music from the back room?? I get it but they are supposed to be a family Italian restaurant so I was totally confused. read more

Great Sunday lunch! We love love love the bread with the dipping sauce. The kids devoured the spaghetti with meat balls, not typical for my picky eaters. The minestrone is home style with hearty pieces of veggies and spagetti, nice tomato taste, lots of flavor. My husband didn't spare a bite. We also shared a strombolli and caprese salad - delicious. We were unfamiliar with Genova, but ducked in here for lunch after an afternoon errand in Newton. I really did not know what to expect, except it looked decent enough to give it a try, and I enjoy local establishments. Well, I was not disappointed. What a great place you have here, Newton! Particularly good, recognizing that we came at the "off" hour of 3 PM when the kitchen may be between shifts or evening dishes in most places may not yet fully primed. These people were ready and gracious. The opening round of bread is astonishingly good but really set the stage for the main course and did not gorge you to the point you no longer cared. (Take that, Olive Garden!) My Sausage Pepper Parmesan was richly flavored and contained sausage of the quality one might find at Yoder's or another similar purveyor of quality meats. The cheese, if not locally produced, was certainly fresh and flavorful as well. Everyone who worked here was certainly pleasant and seemed genuinely happy that we arrived, even at such an odd hour. We even got a few extra fresh hot rolls to take home and savor for later! If I had any quibble at all it is that I'd really have enjoyed a bit of wine to accompany this fine meal, but that is so far not an option. Nevertheless, I understand they do catering, and if I lived a bit closer I'd even consider taking some of their menu offerings home to enjoy with my own bottle. read more

This place is small hidden Gem. This was our second time there and everything was just as great as the first time. The owner Rosie is amazing. She takes your order and makes great conversation with you and make you feel like a true family member. The fresh baked bread is hot and amazing. The dipping sauce is a nice blend of olive oil, balsamic, fresh tomatoes, onions and seasonings (best I have ever had). When Rosie takes your order if you don't know what you want just have her make something up for you. First time I have know idea what it was but it include pasta, salami, pepperoni, sausage and all kinds of other things in this amazing pink sauce. This time I had the Hawaiian Chicken, can I say AMAZING. Spaghetti with a chicken parm on top with sliced pineapple and Alla Panna sauce and tons of cheese broiled on top of it.
