I just got a house and the kitchen sink was backed up. Luckily I remembered to try to use the Home Warranty with First American and they had Gennaro's Plumbing come out to take a look within a couple days. I looked up reviews first and was pretty worried. When the gentleman showed up at my door he was on time within the time frame, very professional and was extremely kind to my dog which I was going to lock up to give him room to work but he had his own dogs so he was very friendly with my pup. He then checked the sink and immediately knew he had to snake it so he got his tools from his truck and ran the hot water + snake at the same time and ran the entire length all the way to the street just to make sure it all got cleared and voila! It was cleared and when he pulled out it he showed me there was dried up grease clogging up the pipe at the very end which a little bit came back out when he pulled the snake out. Overall my experience was extremely professional and extremely kind. I cannot possibly expect a better service from any company. I am very happy with the service I received!! SCAM ALERT!!!! My home warranty company sent them out for an emergency after-hours repair. The guy from Gennaro's called me and was very nice, I asked how I should turn off the water and he assured me that everything would be fine, and they would take care of everything and the plumber was already on the way. Before the plumber came some guy with a water mitigation company showed up and he immediately began telling me that I had to file a claim with my home owners insurance, that my entire kitchen was going to have to be redone and the floors throughout my entire house will likely have to be replaced (you would think I had water gushing out of my pipes instead of a leak). I asked the guy how much would it cost for him to create an access point for the plumber to fix the issue and he said $250-$350. He is going through my house taping off portions of my wall, cabinets, and floor continuing to tell me that I needed to open a claim because he has to take my cabinets down and all of this other stuff. There is some back and forth and I am very hesitant, so he called the guy from Gennaro's to have him talk to me and that guy begins trying to convince me to let the guy start and file a claim. The entire time I have an active leak and there is no plumber. So I told him that I would start the claim, but not for all of the other work and he told me they can't do partial work once they begin working under a claim (all or nothing), so I said that I will just pay out of pocket for him to open an access point and that price jumped to $2,800. He then told me that he still requires a claim number before he can do anything. The entire time, there is still an active leak and this guy is trying to strong arm me before he will create an access point for the plumber to fix the issue and to further pressure me he tells me that the plumber is 15 minutes away so I need to decide what to do. I said fine, I'll open a claim but I am not going to agree to you doing all of this extra work, I will pay for the access point separately and will speak to my insurance company first thing in the morning about the rest. He ask if I want him to move forward with the access point, I said yes and confirmed that I will pay for that out of pocket. He went outside, got in his van and left without saying anything. When I realized he was gone and the plumber never came, I called Gennaro's a few times and they would send me straight to VM. It was a good thing that I did open a claim because my insurance company sent someone out and explained to me how the scam works.... The plumber works with a water restoration/mitigation company. They get you to open a claim, and sign the agreements before they create an access point so the plumber can do repairs, then they immediately start "restoring" your home and then will send an inflated bill to the insurance company when they are done and whatever they can't get the insurance company to pay, the homeowner is now on the hook for which is typically thousands of dollars. And if the homeowner can't pay they put a lien on your home. They literally sit there and let the water continue to damage your home until you enter into an agreement with their restoration/mitigation partner. So don't become a victim like I almost did. If they mention your homeowner's insurance, don't sign anything and tell them to have a nice day. Call your insurance company yourself and let THEM send their water mitigation and plumber to your home. You can then discuss with your insurance company if you need to move forward with a claim. read more

I echo the chorus of zero stars. Worst plumber. He's really good at collecting his $100 fee and either making the problem worse, or not doing anything. First we had a leak under the kitchen sink. He "fixed it" and it leaked worse. It was a nightmare trying to schedule him to come back and fix it again. Finally he came back. We bought the new faucet. He cut the old one out and then determined he needed a saw to fully remove it, which he didn't have. Seems like an important tool for a plumber? Said he'd come back on Sunday with the saw and finish the job. Called on Saturday and said he wouldn't come because of the "liability" (his favorite word). Didn't want to damage the sink??? My non plumber husband went to Home Depot, rented the saw, removed the old faucet and installed the new one. Wish we could get back the $200 we wasted on him doing nothing. Then a shower leak. Warranty company sent this guy back. Guess what? Couldn't fix it bc of the "liability." Said his home remediation friends would have to open the wall first before he could fix the leak. But again collected his $100 for "diagnosing the problem." Hah! After that we called a real plumber who diagnosed and fixed the leak in less than 30 min. This Plumbing company is a SCAM. My home warranty contacted them for my leak between the wall and my bathtub. They came over, I paid them their service call fee ($60), and they spent a few minutes telling me that there is a massive leak behind the tile. They used scare tactics to ramp up my anxiety and then reassured me that they will call in a water mitigation company to help the issue. And then they promised to come back after the tile was removed and they can look at the issue. Turns out, the water mitigation company is a scam and is charging me $$$$'s for almost no work. Gennaro's Plumbing probably got kickbacks from them to recommend them. Two weeks later after my bathroom is demolished, I started calling Gennaro's Plumbing to come back to do the repairs they said they would do. My home warranty was also telling them to return to my property. They don't answer their phones, and then once I get them on the line, they claimed that they're having a system issue. They scheduled a return appointment and never showed. I started to call Gennaro's Plumbing every single day. After a month of calling (remember, my only bathroom is demolished. I don't have a toilet, I don't have a shower, and my insurance company had to relocate me), they started to tell me that they no longer serve my service area (Los Angeles). That's completely ridiculous! They were "in my service area" when my home warranty called them and they got a $60 call fee for essentially 2 minutes of work. I will be submitting a Better Business Bureau complaint, and everything else I can do as a consumer with a complaint. I was assigned to this company from my home warranty first American. I have two leaky faucets, and the guy came out the same day. He said he ordered the faucets and I would receive them in the mail within a week. Then he would come back out to fix the issue. No call and no parts ever. This request was in June. What a scummy company, I called through my home warranty and they sent a guy to look at a minor leak. The guy said he was a from the restoration team took a picture said the damage wasn't to bad. I called the plummer he said he would be there that night. He never showed. I tried to call and text no response. Let this one star identify as ZERO STAR REVIEW. I bought a Rheem water heater from Home Depot that needed to repaired. They had this joke of a company call me to set up a service appointment. On the day before Thanksgiving, l was prepping things for the holiday and they called around 3pm and said they were sending someone by, they were in the area and would be at the house in a half hour. The had called very quickly after I had gotten off the call with Rheem, I was impressed. The man was very nice and professional. They never showed up. They never called and said they couldn't make it. They never answered their phone when I was calling to ask when they would be at the house as I had to go to the market. I called Rheem to let them know they cannot send them to me, I wanted someone else. FAST WATER HEATER came out and did the repair work. FAST WATER HEATER was PROFESSIONAL, CALL THEM. Rheem had someone call me back to ask what happened with Genaro's. Beware of this company!!! As many already stated, zero stars are not an option so we will go with a reluctant one. This is by far the worst plumbing company I have ever used. What should have been a simple toilet repair turned into a nightmare. Gennaro's came to look at the toilet, and using a hand-held moisture detector said extensive water damage existed. They told us they would send a mitigation company to give us a quote, but not to worry as it would be covered with our home insurance. He asked for his check and left, never touching the toilet. The mitigation company arrived the same day and did the same exercise. I was skeptical and asked him to test the entire house. Not surprisingly, his device showed excessive moisture. He reluctantly admitted with a low water bill, the test may not be accurate and left. I was not given a quote or anything in writing. Gennaro's Plumbing would not return my calls or indicate what they were reporting to the home warranty company. Select Home Warranty told me the plumber verbally reported a full bathroom demo was needed as there were broken tiles and excessive water damage. Until that was done, they would not pay for anything. I called a local water mitigation company who confirmed no water leak existed. He demonstrated how hand-held water devices pick up moisture on the palm to give false readings. I tried to reach Gennaro's numerous times and was either sent directly to voicemail or ignored. Calls appear blocked as when I turn off caller ID, they go through. Overall, I feel I was part of an attempted scam or insurance fraud and have reported both companies to the BBB. FYI, the toilet has been repaired and no water damage was found. He confirmed no water damage. Yet the plumber then submitted a report to the warranty company saying there was mold present. There is no mold anywhere. I even have a separate mold assessment confirming no mold. This company is dishonest and their report was pure fraud. Unfortunately similar to the 100+ other reviews on here, we had a bad experience with this vendor who was contracted by Home Warranty of America to service a leak. From reading the other reviews on here, it's becoming apparent is that HWA continues to contract this company for their high rate of rejecting home warranty claims. If HWA were in the business of appropriate customer service and satisfaction, they would work to use credible vendors that are diligently trying to solve the homeowner's issue as opposed to either doing the bare minimum or just issuing an outright claim denial. Our claim with HWA was filed for an upstairs bathroom leak which was coming down into the kitchen ceiling ( see photos). HWA contracted Gennaro's Plumbing. - Plumber performed a visual inspection of an upstairs toilet. Used no levels, measuring device or even attempted to flush the toilet to replicate the leak or find the source. - Gennaro's exact written notes to HWA "tHE PLAN HOLDER DOES NOT HAVE AN EXSISTING PIPE LEAK THE SOUND SHE HEARS IS DUE TO EXPANTION OF PIPES NO LEAK FOUND TILE TO FLOOR ISSUE WE DO NOT DO FLOORING" In short, the claim was denied because no leak was found and this was described as a flooring issue by the plumber... Needless to say we're extremely disappointed in both Home Warranty of America for contracting such a disreputable plumber and also Gennaro's for their lack of effort and complete refusal to admit that a leak exists. read more

These people are the worst! Tried for 3 months to work with them through my Rheem warranty. They do not return calls, they do not show up when they say they will and when they do finally show up they lie. They told Rheem my hot water heater was just outside with no cabinet so they would deny the claim. My crappy Rheem got water heater has now completely gone out and because they lied it's been a struggle! This place was contracted by a home warranty group for us, they came to the house one looked over the problem took a picture with an iPhone (important piece of equipment) , then said well let the warranty know what we need. A few days later we contacted the warranty company and they say they are waiting on a report. Call the office of Gennaro and some childish rude ass answers and says we don't have the report and what not. Fast forward a week later repeat the process and same Child-ass answers the phone and asks why we are calling Gennaros for an update, and proceeds to say that they don't work for me they work for our insurance and don't need to update us. After another week or so, we finally get an estimate of $130 to replace a pipe and $800 to pay for a camera that was run down the pipe, and it's got to be cash because the credit card machine doesn't work. After he saw an opportunity to take advantage of my situation, he called another company to get in on the action. Between the two of these so called companies, they said that I have to get my home insurance involved due to the "damages" caused by my leaking water heater. After all the miss information and the run around I got from them, 2 months later, I still didn't have a water heater permanently installed. Genaro was charging me another $800 to install the water heater that First American warranty was supposedly covering. Genaro said it was for the "modifications" needed to facilitate the installation of my WH. Bullshit! There was nothing to modify. That's all part of the installation!!! So when this Frank Genaro said "we will get the insurance involved that way you can even make money". I said "I just want to have hot water for my house that's all". But they make you think that there's thousands of dollars in damages. But instead, when I finally got someone to patch the walls only after I paid part of my deductible ($1000), I realized that there was maybe $200 to $300 tops for materials and the handyman they sent to work on the patch job that day. Let's just say $500 for his services, which is generous. So $800 total. They billed my insurance nearly $5000!!! WTF!!! I ended up paying $1750 for different plumber to install my WH after cashing out with First American for $671. Which is a separate issue all its own... All in I'm out a little over $2k and I'm paying for home warranty and insurance... WHAT'S WRONG WITH THIS PICTURE?!?!?I'm tired of companies taking advantage of hard working honest people... The plumber informed us he couldnt do anything BECAUSE the gas was shut off. They came out and the guy told us that we needed a water heater replacement because it was damaged. He was only there for like 5 minutes. Stated he send the report that same day. After almost 2 weeks later, I contacted my insurance and my insurance said they were still waiting for the report because they never send the report. I called them, no answer. They finally send the report to my insurance just to tell them that nothing was wrong with my water heater , and that I did not need a replacement. After I missed their initial scheduling call, I spent over a week trying to get a hold of them to schedule as they never seem to answer the phone. After multiple attempts, they finally got back to me and told me (not asked) that they would visit my home on a Thursday during a 4 hour time block. I advised them I could not make that time and they said they'd call me back. After going MIA again, the home warranty company scheduled it for another day which worked with my schedule. This contractor was sent out on behalf of my home warranty (First American) to inspect a garbage disposal that was no longer working. The plumber arrived, inspected my garbage disposal, reported to me that the garbage disposal was no longer functional and that it was the result of normal wear and tear as it was very old. The plumber went out to his van to check if he had a replacement and promptly returned to report that he did not have a replacement and that he was going to have to order a replacement and that he would contact me upon the arrival of the replacement. A week and a half passed without any contact from the plumber so i called the company who reported to me that they submitted the report to my home warranty and were awaiting their approval before they proceeded. I checked the the status of my service request which stated that the request was "closed." I called my home warranty who reported to me that the contractor stated in his report that the garbage disposal was broken due to a screw that he found and that the claim would not be covered. It may very well be that my garbage disposal was no longer functioning due to circumstances outside of normal wear and tear however that is not what was communicated to me or what i was led to believe. Furthermore the plumber never showed me any screw that he had found in the disposal. Gennaro's plumbing receives a 1 star only because i cannot give them 0. They not only lied to me about my garbage disposal and that it was going to be replaced but they didn't have the decency to inform me that the service request was closed and I firmly believe that there was never any screw. If you have had similar experiences with them, please file a formal complaint with the better business bureau, and your home warranty. The Original call on 09/21/2022: Gas company came out to check on the Water Heater left a Red Tag and had to call a Plumber to repair - Notes from the Gas Company stated issue with the Venting and the burner was not working properly. Called Home Warranty Company 1st plumbing company couldn't come out for a week so they sent me Gennaro's Plumbing.... should have waited for the 1st company to come out. The repair guy Rick was unprofessional and didn't complete the job correctly. The chain in the tank of the toilet was broken. He added a hook to connect the broken chain from one end to the other. I had already added a paper clip to temporarily fix the issue until I could get a plumber out here to replace the broken chain. All Rick did was add some type of hook that works like a paperclip. He told me it was fixed, but failed to show me his work and demonstrate that the toilet was fixed. As soon as he left, I tried the toilet and it was not flushing at all. Instead of fixing the problem they went all mental saying that I now had grey water under my floors. They sent a restoration company out that had said I now needed new floors. My insurance paid for most and when everything was done they were supposed to fix the sink. After everything was done they ignored my phone calls and didn't end up fixing the problem they started. I was assigned to Gennaro's Plumbing by First American Home Warranty. Another plumbing company has already come out earlier in the day and identified that I did not have a slab leak but rather a pipe leak in the wall. When I called Gennaro's Plumbing, they were more than pushy and rude. He stated that could not come out to diagnose the pipe until I had a water restoration company assess the damage, so there was a record that he did not cause the damage. (In all the decades of owning a home, I've never heard a plumber say that). I reluctantly agreed and in no less than 5 minutes, his friend from the water restoration company, who was just as rude and pushy scheduled an appointment for 8 am. He said the plumber and water restoration company would arrive together at 8 am the next day. The following day, both companies were a no show. It wasn't until about 6 hours later (and several calls and emails from First American about their no show) that a nice receptionist from Gennaro's Plumbing called to clarify my appointment, which was supposedly two days later claiming that she didn't have an appointment scheduled for that day and she's sorry about the water restoration company and plumber no show. After calling First American for the 3rd time and arguing with them that I wanted to change plumbers, they finally obliged. Judging from previous reviews, my guess is Gennaro's Plumbing is trying to run a scam by hooking up his friend's water restoration company with business. read more
