Thankfully, I don't have much to compare my experience with Genesis and other similar services. But I do know that Francine was very helpful to me at a point when I had no idea what to do. My wife wished to be cremated, and upon her passing, I called Genesis. Francine explained the process, answered all my questions, and was very compassionate and understanding. As the process moved forward, Francine kept me informed. A few times, the email dialog was a bit disjointed, but I think that is simply the nature of the business they are in. I contacted Genesis for more information during the difficulty of dealing with my mother's passing. After speaking to Ms Francine Bryant I was comforted by her attitude and it reflected how much she cared...Even to the point of my mom's cremation, she was there and spoke to me as I live all the way in California and was able to be present. Ms Bryant was so kind to coordinate with my daughters that live there in Maryland to receive her ashes and use our urn and even met with my daughter closer to Oxon Hill so my daughter wouldn't have to drive all the way to the funeral home. I simply called to get an itemized quote for the funeral home to prepare and transport my loved one, to rent a casket, and cremation; the sales woman was so busy trying to sell me services and casket that she completely missed when I told her we only wanted to rent a casket. She kept over talking me as I tried to tell her what my family needs. I could not get a word in edgewise. They may or may not provide a great funeral service, but I never even got to that point to find out because the public facing person answering the phone was rude and sarcastic. If you need a cremation in DC go here. Francine is thoughtful, helpful & kind. As it turns out everyone in the DC area goes to the EXACT SAME PLACE to get cremated. So your loved one will follow the same process no matter what, it's the law. So you need a good person and Francine is that. BTW, it seems odd to speak of money when grieving, but no sense in wasting it. There are fancy funeral homes in DC that will charge you up to $8k for a cremation. Francine charges ~$1.5k. That is one of the best deals in DC, at least that is what hospice told us and they were right. read more

She is very knowledgeable and helped walk us through everything we needed to know. Everything about this whole process went exactly as Francine said it would. Francine has a different business model (e.g., not a big staff on the payroll), and Mike G. is right -- there are only a couple of crematoria in the area that all the funeral homes use. If I could, I would give Genesis, and especially Francine, 10 stars. After calling several funeral homes in the DC area to try to arrange direct cremation for my brother-in-Law who was in Hospice in a nursing home in Hyattsville, I was, to say the least, quite frustrated. I was trying to make these arrangements from North Carolina and was amazed at the indifference I experienced from the funeral homes I called. When I saw the reviews on yelp for Genesis, I decided to give Francine a call. I wasn't necessarily completely focused on price, but was delighted to find out she was charging about half the price of the lowest quote I received to do the exact same thing! When we went up to DC to visit with my brother-in-Law for the last time and to make the final arrangements, Francine went out of her way to meet with us in our hotel in downtown DC. From that point on, the process went very smoothly. I don't know what else to say except don't waste your time and money calling any other funeral homes in DC. never ever would i recommend genesis cremation and funeral services. Unfortunately there are times when you are not next of kin and even though the next of kin authorized cremation they drop off the face of the earth. I have lived with and loved this man for 14 years. Three non-existent kids are required to sign authorization papers but after that they wash their hands of it. I have been the only one in contact with Ms Bryant and she loves to keep reminding me that Im not the next of kin. As I keep reminding her I am the only one who calls. I found out that the death certificate was indeed issued. She claims she doesnt know. I warn you please dont use this facility unless you like being jerked around. read more
