When my father passed away last month, we sought out Collins to help us with his wishes to be cremated. Amy, the accounting/insurance lady was absolutely disgusting to me over the phone after she called me over 10 times the day prior needing my help figuring out life insurance information. She really needs customer service training and a refresher course on her job the amount of times she called me for help. At one point, I let her know she offended me and that I'd like to move forward with her boss instead, first she said no and kept cutting me off several times, then she said she'll be glad to find somebody else to deal with me. It was the tone and the way she said it back, I don't think it was a compassionate response back to someone who just lost their loved one. Update 9/18/2024: make sure you stay on top of this funeral home and Amy! She bullied us into paying out of pocket claiming there's been no payment from the insurance company, when in fact the insurance company already cut a check for the funeral home LAST MONTH!! They did give us a refund but we had to call them!!! They literally cashed both checks and said "OMG wow she does have 2 payments on her account" Absolutely disgusting. Y'all didn't notice it until we called??? Money hungry. read more

I wish I could give less than one star but I cannot. After going though the process of choosing a casket, flowers, and even prayer cards at the end we were told they couldn't fit our schedule. From the beginning of the appointment that was our first concern and our first question. That is very distasteful and unprofessional truly. A grieving family should never have to experience this. Our Dad died late in the afternoon on Christmas Eve at home. I was a bit panicked that because of the holiday, no one would be available. That was not the case at all. Allison called me back within 5 minutes and within 90 minutes Collins was at our door to carefully pick up my dad. Unbelievable response and so professional. This is all I know. I've been here for most funerals. They've always seemed professional and helpful. Only bad thing is that we had my gpa viewing upstairs and there were two other viewings downstairs... Full hour. And they couldn't give us more chairs. We had 30 chairs and about a third of the room left in the back. Our guests had to stand which was a little upsetting to see. Next time, get more chairs? Stock up just in case? Don't think it was right to run out of chairs if you triple book the facility. Also, we requested a tv, which our guy made it seem like no big deal. Then the night of the viewing when I asked to put the tv in the front of the room, this blonde lady had an attitude about it. We had a Cambodian ceremony where a lot of people will be looking upfront, not towards the back where they stuck the tv.. And people would go up to the casket to show respect. I just figured it would make more sense to have the tv upfront.. So people can pay attention to the ceremony and watch the slideshow. Initially, she gave me attitude about it making it seem like it was such a hassle.. All she needed to do was unplug it and I was more than willing to move it to the front. Then she didn't ask me where j wanted it in the front and stuck it in a corner on the side where no one would see it. I asked my cousins to help me move it and we moved it to the perfect location. I'm very sad to be writing this review. A family friend passed away just after Christmas. I did not participate in the funeral arrangements, but those who did stated numerous times how professional and compassionate the staff was. At the viewing there was a staff member available, but unobtrusive and respectful. And at the funeral the staff was so compassionate and considerate to family members and attendees. Everything went so smoothly. I won't go into a lot of detail, but Collins was able to make arrangements that accommodated numerous family and friends who had to make unplanned travel plans to Maryland during the busy holiday season. Who would have thought I would be writing a Yelp review on a funeral home, but yet here we are. This review is a bit overdue, but I figured that now that I am no longer buried with my grief, I figured now would be a good time as any to write this review to show my gratitude for Collins Funeral Home for navigating the details of not one, but two funerals/burials. Sadly, we lost both my dad and uncle last year on the same day (yes, this is my life you can't make this sh** up). Since I hadn't had much experience with dealing with funeral homes in the past, I went to a bunch in the area. Generally they are all the same, but when I met with John at Collins I felt like he really listened and cared. They had a real family feel and didn't make me feel like a number which is why we decided to go with them. First and foremost, they had to deal with the complex details of one joint viewing, one joint funeral, and two burials (my uncle to be buried in another country immediately after the funeral, my father to be buried in Arlington National Cemetery months later). They handled all of the local, federal, as well as international details with professionalism and ease. Since we were dealing with two deaths, we opted to have the viewing at our home church father than at the funeral home (as suggested by Collins as I didn't know you could do that) to accommodate the large crowd that would be coming to see both people. Luckily they have a close relationship with St. Mary's and other churches in the area so the viewing ran smoothly. The funeral went off without a hitch as well, as they arrived early and did all the preparations so we didn't have to think about anything while grieving with family. After the funeral, they prepared all the paperwork for Arlington, and months later when we found out my dad's burial date they arranged all the details for the on-site burial as well as the coach that would drive our family and guests to the burial site and the reception site thereafter. All throughout the process the staff starting with John, then Robert and everyone else on their team handled everything with both professionalism and compassion. Lastly, I want to offer my condolences if you are reading this review because you have lost a loved one. I know how hard it is to have to plan for a funeral, having done it myself. Collins Funeral Home helped walk me through picking out my Mother's funeral arrangements, months before I needed their services. They walked me through the proper type of insurance I needed to have to ensure that it would be there, IF my mom lived long enough to be placed on medicare. She did not, but I was ready just in case. They helped with mass cards to the style of Dress and colors to wear. They took the time, to listen to our concerns and needs. My father passed away unexpectedly in May and we decided to go with Collins Funeral Home, but only because of their location (close to family and friends). I can now say that I would 100% recommend them to other families for so many other reasons. I first met with Neil Piner from Collins less than 12 hours after finding out about the passing of my father and at no point during our initial meeting was he anything but kind, patient, helpful and sincere. I was an emotional mess, but he offered words of comfort, let me take my time, and even brought a smile to my face a time or two. Myself and ten other family members were in a room with him for over an hour during the meeting. It was intense and emotional, and we were all throwing question after question at him from everything to the casket to the transportation services. Neil was very knowledgeable, could answer all of our questions, and most importantly made us feel at ease. Over the next few days Neil called me often to update me with the progress of planned services. He even called the church on numerous times on my behalf to make things a bit easier for my family and I (I didn't know what to ask them, or who to ask for so Neil offered to do it all for me). All services were flawless, just what my family wanted, and beautiful. Neil gave our family space and time when we needed it (close family stayed an hour past closing time after the viewing, and we were never asked to rush out), but he was never more than a few feet away if we needed him. I never thought I would have to plan my father's funeral at such a young age. Thankfully Collins, and specifically Neil Piner, made the planning as stress free as it could be, and simple.
