It's well maintained and large, they also have a small dog only area. There are grassy areas and rocky areas. Equal parts of both. Flat land. Responsible dog owners. Safe. Lots of places to sit. Plenty of free street parking. Overall a great experience! read more

The dogs here are great and the area is well maintained and beautiful. parking is easy and convenient. but the stewards of the dog park are not good people. one steward yelled at a black woman with a pit bull for fighting and told her she needed to leave and it wasn't her dog that started the fight. it was targeted because of her race and the breed of her dog. also they are like poop police and yell at you if you don't pick up your dog's poop immediately. I was on my way to get it and the lady glared at me and picked it up herself. dogs here are awesome but the people suck! read more

So I've been taking my 3-4 months old puppy to the dog park twice now about to be third time. I haven't had any problems with the dog park except for one time a little dog nip my pup but the owner apologized afterwards and told me that his dog still getting along with other dogs, but my pup still continues to love to play with the other dogs and since he's a loves to play tag with the other dogs the other smaller dogs love playing with him too especially the bigger dogs but my pup is afraid but the bigger dogs do try to make him come out of his shell, which I love them we have the dogs that correct other dogs which my pup always watches those dogs so I'm hoping he will be learning, then we have the dogs that are really gentle with him and love him playing with him. I love how every time I go there, there's always all different size dogs to play with where my pup can learn how to socialize and be a normal dog versus playing with people like dogs I like the fact how big the dog park is because all the bigger size dogs have room to run all over the place, same goes for my pup because he's always having his zoomies every second of his life. The only problem I have with it you can't really bring a car because you have to be cautious I heard people break into the windows of the car but I'm always taking the bus so I don't really have to worry but for the people who have cars just watch out for that read more

Pugsly, do you want to play with the puppies? If you've learned anything at all about me on Yelp you'll probably have come to the conclusion that I have a pug named Pugsly. Pugsly and I are a team. He even goes to work with me and serves as our mascot. I take him to the vet once every two weeks and then afterwards he'll start staring at me and wining in the car because he knows I'll give in to him and take him somewhere where he can have fun. This dog park is rather large and offers dogs the chance to explore. Sadly most of it is dirt in the main area and there are large patches of grass on the sides. There is running water with bowls and in that guy who will always dump out the old water onto the plants and give the pups fresh water. There are some trees but they are generally along the side. There are a few places to sit for humans but as I found out not all of the chairs are stable as I fell to the ground and two dogs near me quick ran over to me and started licking my face and trying to play! They have opened a small dog park in the front of the main dog park but whomever designed it must not have the slightest idea about small dogs. First of all there is no shade for the small dogs and if you have a brachycephalic dog like a Pekinese, French Bulldog, English Bulldog, Boston Terrier or a Pug they cannot cool off as fast as most other dogs because of the short muzzle and nose. So since there aren't any trees you would at least think that they would have water available and if you would have thought that, you'd have been wrong. There's no running water and no dog bowl either. But it doesn't end there! Finally the way they built it they have laid down some strange burlap netting along most of the length of the path and the downgrade to keep the dirt in place not thinking that poor Pugsly would get tangled up in it. All of these issues need to be fixed as the summer is coming. The most insane thing about the small dog park is that they have a sign informing the humans that if your dog needs a time out and there's no small dogs present, feel free to use this space. Well, that's exactly what happened today. Silly me thought the big dog in the area might have been too shy to be with the other large dogs and I understand that, but this dog came charging at like those dogs in the Resident Evil movies (an exaggeration). I think if given the chance, he could have eaten my dog whole (also a bit of an exaggeration). I Picked Pugsly up and started looking for the dogs owner. No where to be found. Later on I find out he's just hanging out in the main dog park talking with the other dog owners. Bad pet parenting skills on display for all to witness. I wanted to totally do the Game of Thrones walk of shame to him, but sadly I left my large shaming bell at home. Shame! Shame! Shame! I do enjoy going to dog parks with Pugsly because it gives him a chance to socialize with others of his species and also offers me the opportunity to meet other dog owners. There are as many types of dog owners as there are dog breeds and just like dogs there are the good and the bad. When you have a small dog it's sometimes a bit frustrating because if another small dog starts getting aggressive it's usually not as bad as when it's being done by a larger dog. The problem isn't as much the dog as it is the owner. There was a woman who actually had a muzzle on her dog and another who had a choker collar on her dog and kept him on the leash. These were the good dog owners visiting the dog park today. Then there's the crazy dog lady who brings a herd (slight exaggeration) of large dogs and all of them have behavioral problems. Of course she thinks her dogs are angels (you're fooling yourself lady, they're monsters). If your dog is unable to control itself that's one thing, when you pluralize this, it's even more complex. It's hard enough to keep your eye on one dog at this dog park let alone a herd. So most of the problems I encountered today were due to poor pet parenting, so the blame is squarely on the humans. As far as the park itself, they really do need to update the small dog park and the sign there says it would be completed by May 2018 and it's not. The small dog park has potential but needs more work. Two stars until it improves. Don't feel bad for Pugsly, he did make some friends and have fun. I also met some good pup parents who were responsible and were paying attention to their dogs but damn, I wish I hadn't forgotten my large shaming bell... what a shame! read more

I used to bring my dog her a lot, but unfortunately I started seeing far too many aggressive dogs and irresponsible owners and decided to take my overly-social golden retriever to a quieter park out of town. My dog is often a target because he provokes even mild-mannered dogs, and he turns everyone against him with his puppy-like behavior. Basically, he needs very patient playmates. It does tend to be a little messy and muddy (typical for any northwest park), but its overall a nice atmosphere in the middle of a park, and street parking is usually very easy to come by. Fresh water and plenty of doggie bags are a bonus. read more

This place is fairly large. We were visiting and stopped by for akoya and were happy to see other pups playing. Akoya usually plays on grass or mud (if/when it rains) so she didnt run, play, or chase as much as she normally would have due to the gravel that dominated the main areas. This park is a great little spot in South Seattle, but it smaller than other nearby dog parks. There is parking close by, a large open space (dirt and patchy grass), water faucet, a few benches for dog parents to sit on, and tons of extra tennis balls. Unfortunately, Genesee isn't beach front or have any open water for pups to play in. On all times that I've been with my pup, (generally weekdays around 6-7pm), it hasn't been super crowded. read more

The other reviews on here are so accurate!! Dogs are so mean here! We went here for the first time last week on a cloudy day and the park was pretty crowded, 15+ dogs there when we got there. We have a 5 month old lab mix and he was doing fine until some older dogs started to pick on our pup. Some owners didn't even notice or say anything while everyone watching was concerned! My dog was pinned on his back for most of the time and he's totally fine with playing rough but these older dogs kept snapping at him and dragging him around. We had to leave because my dog kept whimpering and coming back to me, afraid of the other dogs. I don't think we'll be back because there are better and more friendly dog parks around where we live! read more

We took the drive down MLK to check out Genesee Dog Park... we were glad to find some grass and some tightly packed dirt that wasn't too sopping wet with mud... but, of course, Kobe managed to find the one mud puddle in the place and roll right in it. (Such is DP venturing in the spring, I suppose). There was a good amount of dogs there this Saturday afternoon. The space itself is also a good size and there were tennis balls everywhere! That's great news for my non-retrieving dog. (He loves to run after balls and sometimes even pick them up... but when it comes to returning them... he's not interested). We ran into one unfriendly dog, but that's how it goes. There was a drinking pump / bowl for the dogs but no hose, so unfortunately, Kobe had to be washed off in the tub at home... much to his (and his parents') chagrin. This is my 'local' so I'm here more than any other park. Unfortunately, it's the people, not the dogs or the park itself that I take issue with most of the time. People bring dogs here that are clearly aggressive and anti-social as all getout. There was one dog that when I heard his owner begin yelling his name as they approached, I'd just leave immediately as it would end badly with my dog or someone else's hurt within 15 minutes of them arriving. I've been there with a 150lb+ Mastiff, unneutered and out for some action was allowed to run loose terrorizing dogs and owners alike. Today I actually witnessed a near-physical altercation between two women, both dog owners, over picking up poop. It's not really fair to rate the park lower than I would for the facilities alone (4 stars) or for the convenience (5 stars) but what is a public area but a place for the public, and this public often isn't my cup of tea. read more

Syd approves....Which is all that really matters for us. While Marymoor is hands-down the best off-leash dog park in the area, it's far. And while Plymouth Pillars is barely blocks from home, it's small. Having driven by Genessee a time or two in the past, yesterday we decided to pay a visit and check it out. Lunchtime on a Monday saw peak dog occupancy around ten or twelve canines (and fortunately none of the problematic ones Clover A has encountered). The layout of the park is nice: yes, it's just a big square, but that's good for running because not much can get in the way. There are people chairs and benches scattered around the edges of the very large circular gravel area in the middle, and then grass (or grass-mud) extends to the fence line). As other Yelpers have noted, there's a slope downward toward the fence in places, but you shouldn't have any trouble keeping an eye on where your dog is (pooping) unless you're irresponsibly not paying attention. Most COLA visitors already know this, but Seattle Parks & Rec has cut funding for MuttMitts, so be sure to take your own bags with you. There were copious amounts of plastic grocery bags stuffed into a few receptacles near the community board in this park, but I find them to be unwieldy for such occasions. Overall, we were happy to discover that Syd liked the park, that parking was easy, that the drive wasn't at all long, and that he was sufficiently tired after running and playing that he went straight to bed on our return home! read more

honestly, i wish i could leave a no star review. people should always leave their aggressive dogs at home. toast's first time at this dog park was horrible for her. it started off as nothing and it's her running with another dog for 15 minutes until this other dog started pinning her down and attacking her. the dog brought back up and it's her running for her life. the dogs owner did nothing and just stared while my dog and didn't even apologize. read more

I didn't realize my dog could jump that high. I mean... holy crap!? Are there springs in there? And all just to give me a big sloppy puppy kiss on the cheek. You know you've got a happy dog when you're standing there talking to fellow dog parents and out of the blue your dog comes RUNNING full tilt up to you, leaps up in the air and kisses you, then runs off. I've never owned a dog who shows gratitude like my guy does. Does anyone else have a dog that comes and finds you when he's done eating and tries to kiss you and is all happy? Seriously, it's like he's totally thanking me for feeding him. He will run all over the house trying to find me after he eats so he can wag his tail and try to jump up and kiss me. Usually he doesn't get high enough. But at the dog park, holy crap! The other local dog parents are pretty good about both not being pissy if your dog suddenly attacks theirs, and keeping their own dogs under control. Everyone cleans up after their dogs. And occasionally there's a guy who shows up with a remote control airplane who buzzes the dogs. They all chase it and bark, it's hysterical. read more

This dog park is one mile away from my home, and Roo and I try and get there around 9AM on weekdays. There are a handful of regulars at that time and my shy dog feels more secure each time she sees her 9 o'clock friends. Attendance is pretty hit or miss. Since it's such a small neighborhoody dog park, there's never a guarantee if anyone else will be there when you arrive during the week. I've gotten there at 10AM and it was a ghost town. The weekends are good for being consistently occupied, but you have to be even more careful about where you step. There are metal pooper-scoopers leaned up against pretty much all of the trash cans, and there is a poop-bag dispenser by the entrance on the community board that is usually full during the week, but empties quickly on the weekends. So if you don't like the idea of using a poopy pooper-scooper, then bring your own bio-bags. There is probably more dirt than grass in the park, so be ready for that. There are tons of tennis balls all over the park for anyone to entertain themselves or their dogs with, and plenty of pissed on chairs to relax in. The guy with the remote-control airplane is still a regular, but I haven't seen any photographers yet. read more

Crowded and muddy in the winter (unless you stick to the middle area), but its a dog park and its close at hand! There is another, lesser known dog park close to this area -- off MLK and Massachusetts. I wanted to review it because I LOVE it, but it does not appear to be listed. It is big enough and has hills, so you and your dog can both get exercise walking the perimeter. It is never over crowded, so if you want a lot of playmates for your dog, this is not the park for you. However, if your dog is a fan of the chuckit and tennis ball and occasionally wants to also engage in a game of chase with another dog, check it out! read more

Overall this is a pretty decent dog park. The place is flat so it's easy to keep your eyes on your pup, however that seems to give an excuse to some owners to not really pay attention. They have poop baggies right when you walk in, but a scoop by nearly every trash can in the park. There are lots of trash cans, despite being pretty small. The water pump is kind of neat and there's a decent amount of pups who like to play in the fast moving water. There are also a fair amount of regulars at this park who are friendly and welcoming to newcomers. My only complaint is how dusty this place gets. When Seattle doesn't have rain for a few days in a row this place is a dust bowl. read more

This off leash park is a plot of land with some grass/rocks and mostly flat. There were small hills but you can see your dog at any time. It wasn't interesting for my dog and I. I could throw the ball for her all day long and it would not wear her out. I wish there were more hills and interesting terrains to challenge her which would wear her out! i gave them two stars because I thought it was cool that they had poop scoopers instead of baggies around the park. read more

This is a great little dog park. It's not as giant as Magnuson, nor does it include a body of water in which dogs can frolic, but for a place close to home, it sure isn't bad! There's a huge open area, some full of gravel and some covered in grass. There are some nice perks I haven't seen elsewhere, like a pump for water (I was kicking myself for forgetting our dog's portable water bowl; she's too snooty to drink from communal bowls) and a box of various toys to play with. There are also tennis balls strewn about so there's no shortage of things to throw. When I came, there were quite a few dogs. My dog is a weirdo and although she LOVES other dogs, doesn't always want to play when she's surrounded by them. Because she was being shy we didn't stay too long, but we'll be back, especially over the summer when it's nice out! read more

The Genesee OLA is very close to my new home, so the dogs and I have been taking advantage of its proximity by going almost every day. While the park itself is quite small compared to Marymoor or Magnuson, it's big enough for the dogs to do some exploring and have a good run. There's nothing fancy about Genesee OLA; it's a big, fenced off plot of dusty land in the middle of the city, so what earns this dog park 4 stars is the people. There's a rotating group of regulars, both humans and canine, and everyone we've met so far has been super nice. We've not seen any problem dogs yet, and the patrons are pretty good about picking up after their animals, which is always a plus. There's a water spigot, lots of pooper scoppers, and a baggie dispenser at the entrance on 46th Ave S. Also, the OLA has plenty of trash cans, a few plastic chairs, and an abundance of abandoned tennis balls for your dogs enjoyment. read more

Genesse Dog park is one of the places I bring my dogs afterwork when I don't have time to head over to Green Lake. This is a great dog park for letting those 4-legged children get out and run wild! :) Run Dogs Run! There is an information board where you can find out what is going on in the dog community. There are lots of regulars but I still only know the dogs names. How does that happen? Very big enclosed space convienantly located off of Rainer Ave & Genesse. There are dogs of all ages and sizes, There are several benches and seats for the dog owners. Also, there is fresh water hole in the enclosed area. There is plenty of street parking so parking has never been an issue for us. The downfall for this park.......there is no lights for the night time use. That is something that limits the use of the park for the winter months so bring a flash light and put some blinkers on your doggies. I'll see you at the dog park! Cheers! We came here today with the puppy. He LOVED it...and so did we! It's not super crowded at all and it's definitely big enough that the doggies have a place to run (which the pup did). It's mainly sand, so it wasn't super muddy and we didn't have to worry about a dirty pup afterward. It's not a huge park, but definitely a great size for dogs to still be able to run around. My only big complaint about it is that it should have more than one water station. I didn't see any other water bowls/faucets anywhere else. read more

The pup and I love coming to this park. It's a good size - not too big, but not too small. There are little grassy parts where it can get muddy, but for the most part it's a gravel/sand park which is a little kinder to the car on the drive home. :) There's a water pump supplying fresh, cool water to the dogs and lots of trash/scoop bins for business. There are small trees here and there that do supply shade for when the pup gets overheated. Also decent logs/benches/chairs for us people to sit on. I've also enjoyed the people & animals there too. Everyone's pretty friendly and all the dogs we've met have been on good behavior. Easy street parking too! read more

I just wanted to add that I've became a regular at this dog park since it is the closest decent one to me. Since the first day we've been to this dog park, Kai has found lots of doggy friends here. I think the first day I went was an off day. I usually visit after work, which is between 5:30-7:00 PM. Monday is always the slowest, Wednesday being the busiest (so busy that it becomes borderline dangerous at times because tensions starts building between the dogs). The one main thing I wanted to add to my update was that this dog park is DEAD when it is dark. There are no lights on the dog park, you get it from the street or the football field/soccer field next to it. I came here on a Tuesday at around 5:30pm, there were only 2 dogs visiting and left within minutes. I was sadden by this, what do people that work 9-5 do with their dogs during the winter when it becomes dark quickly??? read more

Years ago, when I lived in the Seward Park neighborhood, I brought my Great Dane to this park on a regular basis. He loved it. It's been a long time since then, he has passed on and I have moved out of the neighborhood, but when I got a Golden Retriever puppy last fall, it was only natural for me to start bringing him here once he came of age and had all his shots and what-not. Although there are other off-leash areas closer to where I now live, I find myself usually coming to Genesee Park because it is fully fenced, and the people and dogs are generally very friendly. Occasionally we run into an overly-aggressive dog who is not being controlled by their owner, and then we just leave and come back another day. This situation can happen anywhere, I figure. But on the whole, Genesee Dog Park is the best for us, especially while he is still a puppy. read more

This dog park is on the small side, so it's easy to keep your eye on the pooch. The park is busiest in the morning and 5 or 6ish when people get off work... if you go in the middle of the day you're likely to have no doggie playmates. If you luck out on the weekend, you might run into Steve, the resident doggie photographer, who will snap lots of great action shots of your canine buddy. If you run into him again, you can search through his binders of proofs and he'll print 5x7's for you for a mere $20. Our house is full of them. Another plus for those who are of the retrieving persuasion: the people from the tennis center down on MLK drop off bagloads of tennis balls from time to time, so there's always an extra for playing fetch. read more

Double gated and a great place to let your dog run! They even provide metal chairs in the shade for you to sit. Plenty if grassy area to run but the main center is gravel. There is a water pump with a water dish but I wouldn't recommend letting your dog use it--crows drink from and bathe in that. A minor con is that there are acorns everywhere so be mindful of your dog if they like eating random things. read more

Large 3 acre park at the end of Genesee Park towards Seward Park. It's fenced in of course, offers lots of chairs and rocks to sit on, doggie bags, scoops and pans for waste and a water tap & bowl for all the thirsty dogs. It has both grass and gravel, but no covered areas. It's on a slight hill, so it can be difficult to spot your dog if he/she goes towards the edges of the area. Lots of people in the area brings their dogs here so you never have to worry about not having a playmate for your pooch. Major downside is that it gets wet & muddy, especially in the winter and cleaning my dog to get back in the car is a hassle. I reserve this place for the dry summers and when he needs a bath anyway. Also, no lighting so it's too dark to in it at night. read more

Street parking. Entrance is located at the corner of two streets. The area is grass on the perimeter and mostly DG (gravel) of the center and primary play area of the park. Great alternative if you are looking for a park without a lake or river to avoid a bath when you get home. Dogs were both pure bred and lots of mixed breeds. Out of 30 adults 1 child present, and 3 couples, mostly single owners with dogs. Pop bags is empty and not sure if finding is prepared to refill it. So bring poop bags or prepare to use a dirty pooper scooper. read more

This park is pretty good. I'd give it 3.5 stars if that were an option The fencing and entrances are great, lots of trash cans, a water pump, scoops and pick-up bags are also very good. Nice people, too. I just wish there were more grass, less dust and gravel. Also the space is a bit small. Genesee is a big park; hopefully they will periodically relocate to a new spot and we can take advantage of grass then. We give $ to COLA as a way to support the parks. read more

This is a fine off leash dog 'park'. It's really only a fenced in gravel area but there's some grass and trees. I chose this place because of the playground close by which is walking distance from the dog area. All the folks and dogs were nice. Absolutely no issues whatsoever on a Tuesday mid morning. read more

This large off-leash dog park is one of the better ones I have visited with my mutt, Rosie. It is a large, flat, gravel circular middle and is surrounded by grassy area and some trees (nice for shady places to sit in lawnchairs with other dog owners). There is a hand pump over the water bowl and a mud puddle that forms in front of it (great for water dogs, mud city for their companions). And there were *plenty* of tennis balls in the lot so no need to bring your own. I was house/dog sitting in Columbia City for two weeks so spent a lot of time there. The dogs are more well-behaved than other dog parks and the owners seemed on point with their animals. It was a great place to socialize and have your dogs run around and have fun with others. read more

Very easy access off-leash park, close to home, lots of parking either in the lot or on the street. Lots of open space for the dogs to run and play, benches, highly visible so easy to keep track of your dog at all times, and plenty of spare bags to pick up poop. Only drawbacks are that there is not a separately fenced small dog area, even if a big dog is friendly and good with other dogs if they run or roll over a small dog it could cause serious injury to the smaller dog, so I always feel like I have to be hyper vigilant and keep an eye on each of my two dogs which is not very easy. Also when it has rained it is a real mud pit, and when it has been dry for a while it is a dust bowl so bark/mulch might be a better option for the central area and more grassy area as well. Otherwise it is always my second option after Westcrest which is the best around. read more

We love this dog park and have used it for years. But be wary of dog owners who bring aggressive dogs to the park. On 3/22/2020, witnessed a dog, who had a mussle on, attack another dog. Aggressive dog was able to get past the mussle and viciously maul the other dog. Amazing that dog owner thought it ok to bring this dog to the park under these circumstances. read more

My dog doesnt need much.....just a lot of room to fetch balls and do a little socialization. This park fits the bill since I live so close. Its no Magnusson or Marymoor, but it gets the job done. So far everyone there has been nice. There have been a few aggressive dogs I ve run info, and they usually belong owners who are talking on their phone or talking to other people and not paying attention. My experience with the park is that you have to be careful. My ACD's just want to play ball and are not that interested in playing with other dogs. The biggest problem I have seen is people with young pitbulls who let them loose with a prong collar on the dog's neck and the dog has NO recall or training what so ever. I'm not saying the dog or the breed is bad, but prong collars can do a lot of damage to playing dogs. Then there was the young male, intact Yorkie who took such a fancy to my spayed Cattle dog. If she weren't so well behaved and trained that little creature could have been breakfast. Many pet owners do not follow the rules. Nice place when you have space and the "dogwalkers" actually watch their dogs, and pick up the poops. The photo below makes it look larger than it is.
