Wow. Really poor customer service. Just purchased multifamily in St. Paul, so I had no choice but to use Genes. Submitted online requests and left messages with no return call to change the service into my name. Finally got ahold of someone three weeks after closing on my property and multiple attempts on my end. The female customer service rep stated that she sent a bill to the previous owners so she could not mail me a bill. She argued that they already sent a bill for the next quarter to the previous owners so they wouldn't send one to me. What a WEIRD thing for a company to argue about, insist on not doing and be rude about. Begrudgingly, she finally agreed to send an email and mail a copy... but I'm not holding my breath. Worst trash service ever! They never take extra items unless you call ahead. They charge you a service fee if your cover doesn't fully close. They leave garbage laying around that they spill. Customer service is non existent. read more

While St. Paul has made trash a 'four letter word', Gene's Disposal has been great for me as I purchased my first home this last year. They helped as they could in the transition of things into my name (though St Paul rules and regulations for the trash companies made this tedious) and took time to explain how their billing worked, what happens when, and so on. The service itself has been wonderful - my cans are always picked up and left upright after trash day, and I haven't had a single missed pick up! I also want to note that I enjoy knowing my waste hauler is a local, small company. While this means a smaller office taking calls, so you may have to wait to reach someone on the phone, I've also received a call back after hours, when they could get to me, just to answer a question that day. My prior trash hauler experiences were not like that.To the folks at Gene's Disposal, those in the office and working the street, thank you! read more

Did not consistently pick up my trash and had poor communication. Bad experience all around.

I just moved into my new house and received a bill for garbage around my garbage can. I am assuming that someone dumped garbage in or around my garbage can. I called Gene's and they refused to adjust my bill. I will be calling my council member (I'm in Saint Paul). I wish I had a choice -- I would not use this service. read more

I never got a bill from my new start up service with Genes. I called twice to let them know. Still nothing. Then I got a ridiculously rude call from them letting me know of how serious it was that I had not paid for service. Told me to pay immediately. When you only take checks, it is pretty hard to pay immediately. read more

They are the worst service provider I have ever used. They actually told me they couldn't see my garbage because "the street was dark". I cancelled my check since they didn't actually pick up my garbage and then they tried to charge me a returned check fee and sent me to collections. AVOID AT ALL COSTS! read more

We have used Gene's for over 20 years and are extremely happy with their service! They always pick up promptly. As this is a 2nd home for us, we sometimes have to leave town just before our scheduled service. As we are gone for extended periods, I have called in advance & they have not only collected the garbage but also rolled the can up to the house. In all, it says they care. I was very disappointed by the horrible customer service when I called. It wasn't a pleasant greeting of, "Hi my name is ____, how can I help you?" but instead, Hi my name is ____ and I had to then initiate what I needed. This is also my first time buying a home so I have did not know what to expect from garbage pick up companies... but would have like to know the ins and outs of what garbage companies expect from us as customers. I was not told that the company only accepted check payments, which is very outdated as I pay all my bills online. After learning about this when I called a second time later that week, I decided to cancel my service as it is very inconvenient for me to buy checks just to pay this one bill. When I called to cancel the service, the person on the phone was very upset and told me they'd have to calculate how much they would charge me for cancelling. They never called me back and then went ahead and cancelled my service so my garbage was not picked up. I tried calling them several times and no one picked up, so I had to call them from a different phone number and they finally picked up. They then tell me they have to charge me the full 3 months even though I had only serviced with them for 1 week. Which is very ridiculous. They wouldn't even pick up my garbage when they come and pick up the cart. THIS IS VERY UNPROFESSIONAL AND I'M VERY UPSET WITH THIS COMPANY. FOR ALL GARBAGE COMPANIES: I recommend creating a policy of some sort or FAQ document to send out to all customers so they are aware of how you function as a company. This should be sent out right away and should include, cancellation policies, dates when you pick up garbage, your garbage pickup fees, charges for other garbage items, etc. read more

I've had Gene's for 6 years for residential service in St Paul. They have never missed a pick up and have taken the occasional extra bag of trash or large item without complaint or extra billing. Would recommend. read more

Terrible office service. Obstinate people. If you have a choice, don't choose Gene's. I made 10+ phone calls over a four month period to sort out billing issues. They never called me back after my first call to correct my bill (prior to service beginning). I asked them to call me if they needed anything. The next month I got a late notice and late fee. They refused to believe me when I said I called and left a message and did not subscribe to an extra service. The City of St Paul sent Gene's notices to call me but they didn't call. I received an incorrect bill for the following quarter with an extra service charge. They refused to believe the charge was invalid and would not take off the extra charge. They sent another bill, not taking off the extra charge, and that bill was not the right invoice template. I called multiple times during business hours and got no answer. Finally, today, over four months later, I gave up. They answered their phone. I paid all the extra charges and fees. I have no choice because they are my hauler through the City of St. Paul, but if you have a choice, beware! read more
